Thread: Capital Ship Battle

I love zooming around in fighters as much as the next guy but still nothing beats the feelings of being apart of a large team. And when you are in your own little fighter you lose part of that. My suggestion is to istead of make a ISD setting out in space that you defend or destory. You make a Imperail star destoryer and a mon calmari cruiser that youcan dock with it and have access to a small part of the ship. Were you may man certain turrets and repair plasma leaks much like you do on a decimator or a nova currently. However the ship would be on a NPC set course. Players could not control it. The ships would be on a course that would put them close to each other at least once a day. Forcing a battle. Players would know what time this would happen such as set it on a every 23 hours time so all time zones and everyone has a chance at some point to do it. Players could man turrets that would do massive damage but move slowly (because they are capital guns) and some smaller guns that work like normalfor fighters. But who's ever side destorys the others capital ships gets a badge or some type of reward.


Also make the Imperial star destoryer and moncalmri cruisers have quests that you can do to prep for battle. They both know they are comming at each other. So have the NPC's abord give out quests such as go pick up ammo and supplies at a faction space station or destory a enemy scout that is picking up intell on your side. Or you go and report the position of the enemy capital ship and gather intell on them. Or maybe help the enginer work in the engines and reactor by doing artisan quests. By doing this your side will fire more missles from your capital ship if more people got ammo. Do better hits if more people gathered intell. Or move faster in battler and have better power to weapons if you helped with the engine room.


This came up in my other post. That maybe a ISD or moncalmri cruisers are to big. That very well might be, the people that program it will have to make that call. But you have to admit there are TONS of ships they could use if they want to go smaller. Such as Corellian Corvette, Nebulon frigate, Lancer Frigates, Victory Star destoryers, Dreadnaught, Carrack Cruiser, or the fail safe make one up that is the right size. Freelancers could get a Marauder Corvette that could attack either one as well!


I belive this idea would bring back what I think is missing from JTL massive large ship battles.


I got some of this idea from reading replys to my other post (capital ships) I have to give credit were its due


What do you all think? Good idea? And changes you might suggest?

I like the idea of massive ship battles, but the hard thing is how to implement them. Maybe guilds can get a small capital ship by combining their members faction points or something. I like your idea with the larger capital ships, these should be NPC controlled. Although maybe the timing should be random, but you get a email if you are in the same area that tells you about the battle.

Sounds like a great idea, I would love to see this implimented, but u should still be able to stay in your fighter and help out i think, Now that would be excellent

I like this idea. It could be almost like a dungeon, but far more immersed than what dungeons are now. You have to work together, be prepared, and really work hard. If rebels take over all the guns on a mon cal cruiser and whoever is shooting the guns on the star destroyer suck, well...i don't have the heart to say what next. Still, I like this idea. *cheers*

The thought was some people could man the capital guns and when all the jobs are full in the ISD could also go and fight in there own ship. So yeah some people would be in there fighter.

how about, Fleets? stardestoryer/mon cal as leader, backed up with gunboats and corvettes, maybe even a neblion b frigate and more? dunno wat the lag would be like? but then if u could land on the hangers and get reloaded and change your weapons for free just for the battle?? and what about troop transports so u could try and Capture the other ship, talk about HUGE PVP action

I would limit the number of people that could board otherwise it would become a lag fest. Possibly put them on a timer much like the instanced corvette missions. That way people could not just "live" there. Definetly limit the area that could be accessed.


This is the first idea on "boarding" that I see would be workable. Good idea!

Definately a great idea, but, there is a problem with it.....More of a continuity problem, but yes, still a problem.....


At this point in the timeline, Rebel cappys are in short supply.....The Rebels arefar more worried about hiding them than scraping with them.....


The only twist I'd add to this? Either a timed interval, like the corvette in Kessel for these runs,or make them instanced.....Objective? Rebel = See the cruiser safely to Hyperspace.....Imperial = Make the Rebel Cruiser Star-food.....

Its a shame that you dont see the ISD in DS do more fighting, id love to see something like your idea!

This is a very good points however I have the solution to it. The empire has many ships such as the Interdictor Cruiser that are made to stop ships like mon calmari cruises from escaping. We could simply say that this was a trap for the rebels by the empire. The trap (for example) is the empire has a unguardedsupply station and gave the location to the rebels. Then when the rebels came to capture and steal the supplies the star destoryer could attack them.One could say however. That they would send more than one star destoryer to fight to simplyout gunthere enemy, but one also could say that the empire was expectinga ship like acorillian corvette that the rebels would send. Rather thanone of there valuable mon calmari cruises. But the reason they did is because it was the closest one to that station or something like that. lol you are right but there are ways to get around it.

hmm, this would be great. perhaps the gcw reworking after the cu will include something like this. god knows we've been wishing for this since jtl release.

Fleets would be cool but it would be up to the DEV on how much they wound want to program but that would be cool as well but I would be good with just 1 capital ship to each side.


Now the toop transport idea sounds great! If they could shoot more people of to each others ship this would cause even more of a action going on. Causing the POI and quest to go to a whole new level. However this would mean they would have to toss on aboad each ship a large amount of NPCs to help hold off the invaders from the other side. This would cause mroe lag issues. However if the DEV call that it is do able they should 100% do it!!


Also add a quest that could get you ready for being shot over to the enemy ship. Such as you have to destory a training droid or something. They are not going to send raw recruits to an enemy ship if they can only send a few troop transports. This would also make it so people can't all of the sudden show up and massive army jam into a troop transport and shoot to the enemy ship without doing a quest before hand. and I am not saying something hard just a quick simple mission like go kill something inside the ship in a training room or something.


Another idea is make it sothe boarding partyhas to go to the engine room to set the ship on over load. So there is more than one way to blow the ship up. However also have an engineer quest that can make it harder for the boarding crew to use the ships controls or slows down the count down or somethingto that degree.


Also maybe make a way that the ship can be captured. (if possabe just tossing ideas out now) By taking the bridg or something to that degree. And if the ship is being caputred the people onboard can go to the controls and blow there own ship up to prevent its capture.
