Reebeel: First of all, there HAVE BEEN games where you can fight others over the internet in starships. There hasn't been an MMO that's meshed ground/space together, though.
Howeover, the reason "PvP in space" doesn't interest me much is that PvP in this game is useless. You gain nothing through PvP. The war does not progress or change. The GCW affects nothing on the ground...and if it doesn't in space either, then what's the point?
I've played tons of action space games. Shooting at ships could get very old after...say...a week?
Ever heard of Fun? The other point is to become the best pilot ever...unlike the ground game where the only thing that matters in PvP is how good of a template you have, in space there will be people "famous" in the game because they are really good with a joystick. It will actually involve skill, rather than time. I'm sure the piloting skill tree wil make a little difference but not too much. I really am looking forward to good ol' PvP that relies on skills, rather than templates.
BTW I'm sure whoever has a better ship will make a difference too...however the people who will become "famous" in jtls are the people who beat a super X-wing with there starter ship/

I'm a neutral crafter...what reason do I have to go into space?

This is actually one of the good things about it, you can be a neutral crafter and be on par with everyone else in the faction of your choice. You can be as bad@$$ a combatant as they come and still be a dedicated crafter. You can pick a faction without worry of PvP due to TEFs if you like. If you just aren't interested in fighting or the GCW, then it won't be of any use to you. But, if you are, PvP exposure and the right template watering down your combat abilities are no longer concerns.

Missions.
And to the guys who started the post...like something3P0....I see your point with the effects thing...but i think the fun of flying around in your own YT1300 or X-wing or Tie will hold us all over till the GCW revamp.
