X-Wing is faster, more menuverable, has 3 weapons, 2 ordance, and not to mention it is so much cooler looking.

the xwing is a better ship if all you have is 3222, but once you get x4xx or master the longprobe wins since you can mount massive guns and shields. plus the gun mounting makes for great accuracy with the longprobe.
if i were you i would save my cash, get 2322 first, and stick with the lonprobe til you can get an awing; or even stick with it all the way through master, since i think it beats out the bwing too.
then agian i havent tried my xwing since i got an awing, i might give it another shot once i get another low mass re'd tri-cannon so i can mount 2 and have twice the punch of my awing. i really dont remember how well it handled.

dont do it
the longprobe rules, it might be less manuverable, but id rather have the 60k of extra mass, other than that, the only adavnatge the x-wing has is it looks cooler, and opening and closing the wings is awesome

I upgraded and loved it for like 3 hours. Then I hit 3/4/3/3 and i go, crap, my X-Wing doesn'thave enough mass. So i spend an hour trying to figure out what to do and a friend tells me use your Longprobe. I'm like, GENIUS!!! So, the Longprobe is good because I can have my really good stuff on it now... How is the A-Wing good? I mean, it has 60k mass right? My capacitor could take up half that. My good one at least.

As a rule, i used the long probe for grinding. Cant beat the cost of the chassis for what it holds. You can destroy the thing and throw it out and by 3 more for the price of 1 Xwing. Now though, I have found when properly outfitted an Xwing is a totally insane destructive beast. Granted you have to skimp on defenses but that is the cost of going totally offenseive. My Xwing is loaded out like so.
75 spd engine 4k mass
2x 2500 damage blasters 1=15k mass other 13k mass
1x 3400 damage blaster 33k mass
The other items i wont list for my brain sake.
Granted my mass and level values may be off, but those are the guns and engine i have in it. Now as you can see its not the fastest or the most protected ship. But a good volley from the guns usually pops tier 3's in 1 shot and tier 5's in 3-4 shots (All 3 guns hitting not all 6 beams)

longprobe = easy to hit targets with both weapons, good for pilots that dont have a problem hitting their targets.
Xwing = easier to hit targets with at least ONE gun for people who DO have a problem hitting their targets, if you have difficulty aiming the xwings weapon spread is beneficial as it increases your chance to hit. (note: this is not a slight on the professed xwing pilots, just my own opinion as to how that weapon spread can be useful)
the Longprobe is the way to go to deal the most damage the fastest, you can put 2 guns on it that hit harder than the 3 on the xwing combined. with the longprobes guns firing so close to each other, you're more likely to hit with both guns. if you use engine overdrive 3 you can easily make up for the lack of handling ability.

Mass does not equal performance.
I'd much rather use my RE'd A-wing setup than shove some poorly put-together crafted items or bad loots in a LP.

i'd rather use my longprobe and a good mix of loot and crafted compsfrom my experiance crafted weapons armour and sheilds are better than loot.

woof, judgmental are we?
how about a carefully balanced longprobe with Re'd QUALITY components?
Two re'd tier 8 reward guns, and a 2700 Re'd level 9 sheild?
the awing might be your preference, thats cool, but dont dismiss the possibilities all that mass gives you.
"mass does not equal performance" true, your handling suffers, but with BIGGER guns and BIGGER shields you can dish out and receive 3x the damage.
that smells like performance to me.
