Thread: Upgrading From Longprobe To X-Wing
My A-wing has Extra mass, I threw on a 10k mass booster just to fill it up. The capacitorI use is 8k mass 1253 energy and a 42.4 regen paired with a gun that does 3700 dmg 28k mass and .62 v armor and shields. So if you have the right stuff the A-wing will tear things up and it handles much much better than the LP and its harder to hit. I love the A-wing and hate using anything bomber related.
Good Day

- each ship is better for different situations supposedly(but there's still some flaws that need fixing which make one of the ship for rebs the best in all situations)
- you will at some point want or possibly need to use different ships for different missions depending on your playstyle.
- some ships are better for groups, some for solo play and some depend on whether your master or not
- the way this game is set up, mass is far more important than manueverability because the way you progress through the tiers is dependant on the level of damage you can do and shielding you can have....this goes up with each tier...with the accuracy of the A.I. most of the time your manueverability won't matter as much as you think because they will hit you anyway.
- finally, it all depends on your playstyle for how and what type of ship you use....some people like immediate actions, shorter but faster moves....while others use the opposite....and then there's a mixture of both.
My opinion....a y-wing longprobe....the good things are:
- you get 170k mass and can use the best parts your level allows and probably won't have toleave any empty slots on your ship...meaning you won't have togo without missiles orbooster to make room forhigh mass weapons, shields, engines or reactors(RE'd partsis better)
- it's the only ship (besides the b-wing) that will give you the best chances to survive and win while flying solo on tier 3, 4 and 5 missions
- you can also fly it in groups and be equally as effective as you would be in a x-wing or a-wing (with the appropriate droid commands)
The only bad thing Is that for a person who like quick maneuvers, faster turning and the ability to ride the tailpipe of your opponent, you won't be able to do that for long stretches....but then you shouldn't be doing this anyway because if you are, then you've just effectively set yourself up for a crossfire....***sneaky little imps...heheh****
The lighter fighters, a-wing and x-wing...the only things better about these than the longprobe is speed and manueverability and the bad things arethat they can't do everything the longprobe can do with the same effieciency. Sure you can use all the overload programs on an a-wing or x-wing....but you can do that with the longprobe too and with more mass, that means you are beefing up better componets......an overloaded 4000 damage gun on a light figther can't compare to 2 overlaoded 3500 guns on LP.....the x-wing might have 3 weapons hardpoints....but you'll always have to sacrifice the mass of the other components.....or go with weaker weapons......then the a-wing, well, that ship is really worhtless....one gun and only 60k mass....you can't do anything with that except fly it with a group of 19 players and hope the enemy focuses on everything but you.
Bottom line, the most important thing for any ship is mass...no matter how much you like speed and manueverability....JTL is geared to how good your components are and not your skill in manuevering your ship. For example, a 1500 shield on an x-wing with a pilot who can manuever like a mongoose won't last as long asa y-wing with a 3000 shield and engine overload unless you are fighting one-on-one...then and only then is the ligher fighters better because you can just get on the tailpipe of the heavy fighters and stay their without a high risk of damage....but since in 99% of case you will be facing 5 or more enemies at once and some with turrets that can take out a 2500 shield in 5 or less direct hits from any angle.....a light fighter simply can't house the components to take that much damage and so it's systems will get hit far more often, and that means you'll lose manueverability if your engines get hit.....I wish it wasn't this way, but that's the facts I've gathered from my experiences with all the ships at various levels.
Anyone don't believe what I'm saying....get in your a-wing or x-wingand do a tier 3 or4 duty missionuntil it's complete and see how many waves of enemies you survive (without major damage to your systems or dying)...then do it again in your longprobe and compare the differences.....if you outfit the LP right, the increased mass will give you the opportuninty to put more powerful weapons and shielding on your longprobe......that means faster kills and less damage to yourself.
OH, and also another advantage for the a-wing and the x-wing is that if your engine is good enough to be faster than the npc ships, you can minimize the angles and amount of shots you take from the npc ships....becaue you'll move out of their firing arc a bit faster.......but again this kind of manueverability issue is easily overcome by detering npc ships attack on you by turning and hitting them as they start their attack run on you.....the smallest reds dots on the radar represent enemies that are more often than not about to commit to an attack run on you....so if you turn and shoot at them early enough, they may only get 1 or 2 shots....sometimes none...and thus avoiding their shots had nothing to do with manueverability.....it's timing instead....this is just another flaw in the flying tactics of the a.i.
