Now I got the Star Wars Trilogy DVDs, there great and I even watched the whole disk with all the extra stuff and it was great also, but I could'nt help ask this question.

Star Wars is about adventure, exploration and well war. I have to admit that I playing as a rebel, don't feel very scared of the Empire... and with all the houses on Tatooine, it feels more like Las Vegas then tatooine. The world at times feels kinda cut and paste, look I'm sure that every cantina in the galaxie dosnt look like the one in Mos Eisly. Also since when did a jedi gain his/her abilities through killing millions of creatures for exp lol!!!!???

Now I know that SOE needed to create a game, but I can't help feel that the game has strayed away from what Star Wars is realy about... adventure and fun! So far they are doing an ok job, I'll give them that, but when I got the game and it said on the box: Experience the greatest Star Wars Saga ever told - yours.... I felt like I would be experiancing things like in the movie. Running from the Empire, training under a master to become a jedi (not killing a billion things to become a jedi... see training takes just as long, but you learn about the force... you don't kill for the force). Alot of the music thats in the movies wasn't even used in the game... when its said that music makes half the Star Wars experiance.

I think when SOE got the idea to try a Star Wars MMO, they should have come from the idea that they would build a world, not a game. They have done an ok job... but the game falls short when it comes to giving you the full Star Wars feel. I think some times mabey they should have used "Zones" so that the areas could be filled with more detal and such without causing lag. Playing as a rebel should be tough, because the Empire is always hunting you... and the more you do for the Alliance the more wanted you should become. The more stuff you do for the Empire, the more well known or feared by the normal people you become... that kinda stuff.

I know they can't change the game to be zone based or anything... but to improve the Empire vs Rebel conflict would'nt take much... just a few things like make the crackdown a crackdown... not just a few more stormies in mos espa.

The only other thing that realy gets me is the way they have aproched Jedi. Jedi are not some all powerful beings that can do anything they wan't and take forever to become, and there defently not some level 60 type of player that should be "rewarded" for hard work. Jedi Initiates and Padawans are very much killable if you will. A Jedi Initiate... if there not a child, is almost defenceless for the only thing that real makes a Jedi powerful is the force, and they haven't even mastered it enough to be a threat to anything more than a fly or a cat! I belive that Jedi should'nt be a class that you start with... I like how you "find" it in this game, but I find killing bajillions of critters for exp converstion to be a bit anti-jedi when it comes to the feel. Rather I think that a player should gain jedi through a very well thought out storyline, quests, and such. Now I know some of you are going to say well there are quests. But all the quests do are lead to grinding, and jedi arnt about grinding (they should have to do that once they become the jedi). I think that every person should get a "master" sorta, a npc that teaches them the ways of the force (once there are enough player jedi then it changes). When enough players become jedi (kinda like now) they take on a lerner of there own... they get mabey a menu of quests that they can send there intiate on thus the players are tought to become jedi, not grind to become jedi. This would also help with comunity growth for new and unexperianced players. Now I know some of you reading this are jedi, and you don't want it to change because you feel you worked hard.. and you have I respect that, the reward for you is a special bage placed on your char... and you get to be the first masters!!! Thats an hounor in my mind. Also a few requirements to become an intiate I would say (so a person just logging one can't bam become one lol) would be to gain location badges, master 2 elite classes, gain 3 content badges... then the hard part... finding a master.

Well I'm sure that it takes more than a post to get them to change the game a bit, so if you like the proposed ideas then please post, make a big noise sorta say, WE WANT STAR WARS... not UO/EQ with a star wars front, Star Wars is about adventure not mindless hunting, its about the great story, evil vs good, dark vs light, Empire vs Rebel. This game is great, it just need a boster shot and I hope with all your help mabey we can get them to pump some pure force into this game, and hay with a big change in the game we could get more players to join us... thus more expantions would be made and even more money placed into this game!

So lets see if we can get SOE to look at us, and listen to us and try and bring the Soul of Star Wars to Star Wars Galaxies!

Try focusing on positive. This is only game I play, and I bought it since it offered me SW universe. Does it feels like it now ? Not really. But I look on positives. We got planets, we got characters, we got ST running around, we got legendary places, and now we got YT1300. So its not that bad if you know where to look.

Well, I just got through posting on another forum how I swore up and down that I wouldnt say anything else negative about this game until I see the GCW revamp. But, this is something I feel is important to reply to. And what I have to say isnt really negative.

Having been playing this game now for a year and a half, I have come to some solid conclusions that I dont think anyone would argue with. First off, the game scope was too broad. That is to say, that they made the game way too big. If you look at other MMOs, the entire map of that game including zones and all is about as equal to maybe two of the complete Planetary maps in SWG. We have what, 10 planets in SWG? The game feels lack luster for two reasons in my opinion: too much space, too little focus.

What I mean is that since they made this huge 'world' if you will, its hard to keep up with it all. They have 33 professions! If you ask me, they could have done a better job with the professions and trimmed a lot of the fat to have fewer to choose from, but also have them more focussed. I mean really, 33 is a lot. Thats 8 times more than you normally have in any other MMO. This COULD give people more freedom to be exactly what they want, but again, they have lost focus. Thats why you have so many dead professions.

Adding to the muss is JtL. Now, dont get me wrong, JtL was a much needed addition to the game. I mean, it is half the Star Wars Experience. But again, they have so much ont heir plate already, that there wasnt time taken to flesh out Space.... then they had 10 space zones to worry about.

However, its much too late in the game now to be worried abotu this. All we can do no wis just wait until they get the game to where it needs to be man. I personally have grown tired of it. Ive gone through the political diarhea of complaining and what have you until I havent the strength to do it any longer. What really erks me about it is that knowing what I know now, I can see how all this oculd have been avoided in the first place. But, I suppose hindsight is 20/20. Allt hat crosses my mind is a) either SOE made choices that they had no idea would result to what we have now, or b) SOE made choices fully aware of what would happen and it was all part of the plan.

Either way makes little difference. I just want them to make the game the way its should be. The way we all know it should be. Of every MMO out or abotu to be out... this game has more potential than any of them. I just wish they had started smaller so they woul dhave less to work on while being able to continuously give us more, all the while eveyr bit was polished to a degree of greatness.

Is there a game out there where you can play at the time period of the first movies?

I just got done watching the DvD's myself. A friend was like 'after watching those movies you are gonna jump headlong back into SWG'.. I think the movies had the opposite effect.

I want to play in THAT universe. I would be willing to play a 1 person RPG if they have it. Not that I am quitting this game.. but I wanna have a little escapism untill they fix this one.. and I would like to play in the Star Wars Universe around the time of New Hope.

Is there such a thing that exists or am I just wasting my time?

Well.. I have an answer for you... but youre not going to like it lol....

Youre in luck, there is such a game. Its called 'Super Star Wars' for you Super Nintendo Entertainment System (there is a full series.... Super Empire Strikes Back and Super Return of the Jedi). There is also Shadows of the Empire for the Nintendo 64 and also PC if you can find either one. other than that, thats about it. The closest thing youll find on the PC are the Dark Forces series and the Jedi Knight series which actually take place during the Expanded Universe Era (right after Return of the Jedi). You could also check out Bounty Hunter on the PS2 and I think its on Gamecube as well, but that is Clone Wars time and you play as Jango Fett... suppose to be good though.

Then of course there is always KOTOR and KOTOR II on Xbox (PC Release in February 05) But those take place 4000 years before the events of Episode 1.Lucasarts for some reason seems to avoid the origional era like a plague.I hate it too because its my favorite era.

No, sorry. There aren't many Star Wars themed RPGs out there, let alone one that lets you play at the time periodoffirst movie. The onlyStar Wars RPGs ever made for the PC, or any other platform for that matter, are KOTOR and KOTOR 2.

The game is what you make of it. Pretty much if you want that starwars feel and want to be chased by the empire then ROLEPLAY it out. Roleplaying is the key here.

I was a very wanted man on Bloodfin. PK guild was after us all the time and we would run hits on their bases constantly. Actually we destroyed lots of their bases.

What im trying to get at is yes this game has a HUGE world. It is up to us THE PLAYERS to fill it.

For instance I love to use my pets to run patrols around the player cities looking for bad guys to report in to my friends back on bloodfin days when the empire attacked our beloved city Destiny. I would also use bikes and the like but sometimes you can fly right past your enemies with a bike so I used mounted pets and reported back.

I would also lead an assult on bases. These assults would cause lots of faction loss to our enemies.

Now on Bria galaxy we still do things like that. Yeah there is a grind for XP but thats the game part of it. If you really want to be a part of SWG the Roleplay is the key.

Let your imaginations run wild and start playing your parts.....

You really want to be wanted by the empire dude? You really want to actually be hunted by every Imperial out there? Go overt and play hide and go seek with them. Get a group, Kill an overt and see how you become hunted....

There are plenty of overts in Bria Galaxy and I see PVP all the time. Actually I was on the run several times from imperials.

On such imperial began a scan on me in a space port... wont say which because I frequent it alot.... and when he began scanning I had to take him out. A shoot out with NPCs errupted and sure enough I was taking out NPCs but unbuffed!

Meanwhile there were OVERTS waiting for the damn shuttle! Uhhhgggg.... I barely escaped that one but I was able to escape....

This is very starwars... you just have to find it in yourself by Roleplay and involvment.

Get into a huge PVP guild that actually takes part in the Galactic Civil War or stand by and watch as everyone else has fun.

Developers can only give you the tools to do so. I agree that they are not the best tools in the world but they are pretty damn good.

Its really up to you...

I kind of agree with most of what the original poster had to say. Sometimes I just don't feel like I"m playing star wars or in a star wars universe. However, I find that the biggest thing missing in this game is "Roleplay". It seems that in a game that's partially built on roleplaying, not enough people do it. I've seen hundreds of situations in-game where if the people roleplayed "Just a little bit" it would make the game so much better. Instead, most people treat this game as if it's all about who can completeall the contentthe fastest, who can acquire the most uber items or uber character template.

When I see people go to jabba's palace....I don't see roleplay, all I see is people looking to get the badge so they can become force sensitive or talk to boba fett and gain entrace to the DWB. It's obvious to me that a lot of people don't even care about the stories npc's have to tell when you take a mission from them because most of their stories would take a few minutes to read...but when I see a guy go to an npc and 20 seconds later he's off on his quest, He did not read the conversation thus depriving himself of some pretty good content that can also be used in roleplay.....

I'm not saying that everyone should roleplay all the time....but I am saying that a little roleplay can help this game.....and with a little imagination, we can take some of the things that npc's say to use and create a whole saga for ourself and/or guild mates.

For one thing, why are there no imp guilds and reb guilds involved in any kind of battles or guild wars....even with a broken GCW, we can still create star wars based battles and many other kinds of content....but instead, I see guild mates standing around talking about hunting the geo cave, corvette or whatever just to get great loot......and for what...either to sell and get rich or to make some uber armor and weapons so they can go slay 40 krayts for even more loot....and the vicious circle begins......

The devs have given us so much more content and freedom in this game than nearly all other games of it's genre, but because most of us who play are set out to "complete" everything and become uber....we forget about the real meaning of MMORPG's.....if we stop treating SWG like there's a final goal (besides the fall of the empire) and treat it like a lifes story based in the star wars universe....many more people can enjoy this game and the devs won't have to wreck their brains trying to get new content out while attempting to fix broken content and do all their other duties as developers.

I really hate when a new patch or some new quests get added on tuesday and by tuesday evening there's a guide on how to solo it or 8000 post of people who completed it 40 times each.....then they wonder why they have nothing to do later on and want the devs to push something out new the next day......

It's just so sad....It's so hard finding people that would actually want to organize player made content and roleplaying while still integrating it in with the content the devs have given us. I guess that's the biggest disappointment to me about SWG and why it doesn't seem like I'm experiencing a star wars feeling....now there are surely some things the devs could have or still can do to increase the feeling of star wars....for one thing, it irks me that when you talk to the main characters in the game from the movies that they don't even have a voice....can we get some voices for vader, emperor, luke, leia, han, chewie, mon montha, jabba....I mean there are thousands of other detailed sounds in the game....heck even the ST's have a voice....well don't know if they still do...but they did at one time speak.

Anyway, adding some well known voices would definitely give me a better star wars feel.....even if it's just chewbacca's typical ole moaning...hehe...or a couple of lines greeting you and wishing you well when you interact with them......but when I have to read everything that the main characters have to say....I sure don't feel like I'm interacting with any of them besides the fact that I see them standing there in front of me.

Now there are certainly more I have thought of, but voices are one that really disappoint me......I want to hear a smart remark from han, C3PO's bickering with R2 and dark raspy voiced vader expressing his disappointment or pleasure of failed or completed missions.

Basically though, the game is probably suffering more becuase everyone wants the benefits of it being a game while still wanting to live "A LIFE" in the star wars universe. Balancingboth is clearly becoming impossible without altering the game so much that we slowly but surely lose the feeling of an actual star wars universe....we want all the perks of being in star wars, but we don't want any of the penalties of being in star wars...for example, everyone wants to become a jedi, but noone wants the penalties that comes with being a jedi (or at least they complain forever about each tweak to jedi)....instead we want 100% total freedom to do whatever we want as a jedi with no consequences or disadvantages.....personally Ithink the game could use a few more harsh penalties for certain content like beign a jedi, being aligned with either faction or participating in the GCW....because after mastering all the professions you want and by that time you've learned nearly all the tricks of the trade to defeating combat related task or you reached your limits to crafting, there is simply nothing left except roleplay....but as I said, noone does that anymore.

The game can certainly use a bigger dose of what it really is like to live out a life in the star wars universe...that includes player bounties, increased content by both the devs and the community, a better path to become a jedi which has nothing to do with grinding at all, better GCW content, a better balanced combat system where there is a clear counter to everything and no particular part rules (i.e. CM diseases and poisons, doc buffs, unhealable mind pools but yet only a select few professions cansolely target it,Godlike SBD's and Godlike composite armor just to name a few).

Now don't get me wrong, might sound like I'm ranting, whining or whatever......not true, I love this game, but as great as it is, it's starting to lose some of it's luster....especially after you watch the movies. I just hate to see where this game is at in may when episode 3 comes out....I hope the CU and GCW are both up and running strong by then.

All in all, the game is great and it is one of the best if not the best MMORPG out there today.....it's potential is certainly limitless.....However, I'd much rather see more involvment by the community to try and help make the game more like Star Wars instead of rushing to complete everything in a day only to cry about lack of content tomorrow.

Trust me, I know its hard to add to the game, and any changes I ask for are "long run" changes... not overnight stuff lol. I can't agree better with some of you, were missing ALOT of RPing... and I try to do my best, but its hard when you feel like the only person on your server doing it lol. Now what do you guys think about my jedi idea (to be honest I used insperation from Dark Ages, a realy old mmo I played way back when mmos were super new)? The whole prosess of become a jedi isnt ment to get any easyer but it would thrust people into roleplaying as they now have a player "master" to train them in the force. To prevent players from teaching others super fast and getting a new one (so guilds could'nt all become jedi in a week lol) they could have Phases like they do in the village, where you can only teach your lerner so much before they must take a break (so they can experiance the game and do a bit of RP inbettween the phases).

I'm not asking for these changes to happen *poof* right now lol. I just wan't SOE to know the direction we would like our game to go, more RP "aid" rather than "Grinder" aid. Just think having to find a master to train you in the ways of the Jedi, would be one of the greatest ways for people to RP.

Okey, I am not much a RPler myself, but I do not know of a single one RPG where you don't do some kind of grinding. Call it leveling or however you like, without XP you wont go up the ladder.

Someone wrote, that the game is way to big.

On the other hand it is so small that one city is near another.

I would say, the game is not really big enough to give you the real feeling and it wont until hardware prices drop down further more.

This game gives you almost infinte ways to play. You do not have to grind to level, if you enjoy your game you will level up sooner or later, nobody forces you.

And most important....

Is there any other game where you can go fishing ?!

Just wanted to say, we have just seen the beginning of the game. If it continues like that it may become the best game of all times.
