Most of the things I did in the original game are things you wouldn't see directly. I wrote the persistence (database) system, the system for dividing a planet between servers, etc. I also worked on the resource system and harvesters.
For JTL, I've worked on things that are more visible, which has been a lot of fun for me. I wrote the logic for how missiles fly and the effects they play. I worked on capital ship and bomber AI, and the autopilot system. I wrote the system for radial asteroids (the small rocks or pieces of debris that bounce off your ship when you fly through an asteroid field).
Currently I'm working on bug fixes. At this stage of the project, the bugs tend to be scattered over different systems, so every day I work on something else. The issues I'm looking at today involve grouping and the way groups are handled in the UI. Tomorrow I'll probably be working on something completely different!
