For some reason Tie fighter and Tie Fighter:defender of the empire have always been my favorite.(probably why i settled on imp pilot) Too bad theres not a secret order that puts tattoos on your forearm in JTL too

Player designed Tattoos would be a blast, but how would they implement it into the game?

I have fond memories of TIE Fighter. That crazy training course through tubes shooting those little red things, pushing all power to thrusters to catch that damn gunboat, turning on wingmates and blasting them to little itzy pieces, flying between star destroyers and frigates duking it out...oh those were the days. Still the best space combat sim in my mind.

Awesome site. X-Wing was the first computer game I ever bought. Still have the floppies. Tie Fighter was a better game IMO, simply because it had better graphics and a deeper story. Plus Thrawn was in it: bonus. Also the Tie Defender owned. I hope one day they'll add it to SWG. I found my Tie Fighter Collecters Ed. CD the other day. I'm tempted to try getting it to run on WinXP.

If you are lucky enough tohave or findtheWindows 95/98 versions of either X-Wingor Tie Fighter, there is a special patch to allow both of them to playon Windows2000 & XP. Afterquite a bit of searching on ebay Iwas able to buy both in new condition. I have to say that it is a blast to be able to play these gamesagain.

I have the floppies too, and there're all in perfect working condition. With help of DosBox, I can run those games under win xp.

It should run fine, mine does! If you get problems just use compatibility mode.

That's it. I'm installing it when I get home from work. What about the joystick though? I have a Logitech USB joystick. What're the odds it'll even know what USB is, much less know how to communicate with a device attached to it?

Joystick works fine! It's a Microsoft (*shudders*) Sidewinder from a few years back, it's USB also.
Just one question though, when you say collectors editiondo you mean the re-released version that came with X-wing & X-wing Vs TIE Fighter Flight School (I think that was the name)?
Cya!

The Collector's Edition of TIE Fighter should work, maybe with this patch here:
X-Wing and TIE Fighter 95 Compatability Fix
When I went home for Christmas, my Sister had her laptop (WinXP) and flight stick (she had JTL). I threw on Collector's Ed. TIE Fighter, applied the patch, and I was out flying for the Emperor again.
Get past the out of date graphics. The laser gunnery is harder than the X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and X-Wing:Alliance games. You need to gain a bigger lead on targets.
Get back into some classical, Star Wars flying goodness.

Its the Tie Fighter Collector's CD-ROM. "The Complete Tie Fighter Collection on CD-ROM." It includes the Defender of the Empire mission disk.
Okay, I just installed it, but the old fashioned sound card detection program didn't detect a sound card. I have an on-board sound card on the motherboard. Does this mean I won't have sound, or does the patch do anything for sound?
Edit: Problem. The game loads fine, the intro plays, and I can navigate the menus. No sound though. But when a mission loads (where I should see the cockpit) the graphics go all screwy. Nothing but random horizontal lines. The lines shift a bit when I move the mouse. Any ideas?
