Ok, please don't flame me for this, I know it is a dumb question, but if we can fly above endor, should there not be a dirty great space station(2nd deathstar)being built just there at the moment ?

Also, we don't know for a fact if the second deathstar was compeletly constructed over Endor. I am willing to bet that the majority of the parts were build in the maw in the Kessel system (at least the planet destroying laser). Endor was where the emperor put the deathstar for protection until it became fully functional.

The Maw was Grand Moff Tarkins private research facility, and was completly cut-off from the rest of the universe for decades.

No contact was made with them, nor could be made with them thanks to the black-holes of the Maw, so as far as most of the Empire knew the Maw installation never existed. Due to this the second Deathstar could not have been built in the Maw, and that female scientist (forget the name) kept on deluding herself and convincing herself that the weapons of mass destruction they had created were going to be used for peaceful use, such as breaking up dying planets and preventing asteroid collisions, etc.

Also, the whole 'Deathstar II' was a lie in order for the Emporer to lure the Rebels into his trap. So its likely that construction was not started until after their dissapointment with catching Luke, Leia, Han etc; in ROTJ.

And due to the space sectors being as they are in SWG we can always say it's on the other side of the planet....

It is being built, many of the Imperial Storm squadron missions deal with bringing parts and crew in for the new Death Star, although you never actually see it.

it would be cool to have the deathstar, thats coming from a rebel pilot, but if they were to do that, theyd have to put in something like that for rebels, like havea sector with the rebel fleet in it. This might make too many sectors too risky for everyone except masters or pilots on tier 4

My memories of Kevin J Andersons description of the MAW installation was that it was a research facility, where the major components of the Deathstar were designed and built. Only a jedi could navigate safely through the eddies between the blackholes and get to the installation. Hence, the emperor was need to get in and out. You may be right as my memory of that book is a bit sketchy after 10 years, but I know the MAW had a big part in the deathstar (whether it be just design, or also building the superlaser). If I remember correctly, when Han Solo went to the MAW installation there was a functional deathstar laser.

Besides the point, it is very possible that the second deathstar was created in pieces throughout the galaxy and only constructed in Endor (which may not have begun yet).

I'm sorry, but the newest set of movies imply that the original death star was designed almost 30 years before it was completed (and then blown up less than a month after it became fully operational).

I've always thought that there was only maybe a 5 year gap between the battles of Yavin and Endor, and somehow even as big as the Empire is, I can't see them constructing a second Death Star in that short of an amount of time.

However, upon further thought (and checking the old "strategy guides" on the shelf here on my desk), in Star Wars: Rebellion, it would take one shipyard roughly six years to churn out a Death Star. Ten shipyards working together would take around nine game months to build it. And that was from scratch, without the parts that Storm Squadron is salvaging from the first DS. So I suppose it is possible that it just isn't there...yet.

Still, I have a hard time believing that a government that large could possibly do anything quickly, Emperor or no.

My knowledge of the extended universe is a little poor. Which book is this all described in ? Sounds like a good read .

Thanks
