Thread: Who designed the space missions?!

Who the heck designed the space missions? I honestly believe he/she needs to be fired.

As an Imperial player, I found the Imperial Inquisition missions downright insane, they had you killing multiple gun boats surrounded by fighters and then end up escorting things with waves upon waves of fighters coming in.

So when I bought the Total Experience, I said screw the Imperial Inquisition, and joined the Storm Squadron. I don't even have 1 box of Tier 3 skills yet and already I feel like never going into Space again, I currently have to escort a ship, then go re-capute and escort another ship, then go inspect and disable another ship, then once again go and escort yet another ship, and then go and deliver something, which is the part I cannot get past, an unlimited number of waves just keep coming and I can't outrun A-Wings.

I don't even know if there is any more parts to this mission, but its insane, its bad enough I spend atleast 40 minutes in total just doing the escort parts, but when im surrounded by fighters that come in faster than I can kill them off and basically knock me down little by little until im destroyed *cough* A-Wings *cough* andthenend up facing Tier 4's and 5's which are random mobs that are ~always~ part of the 3rd escort, and they haven't changed position in every attempt I've made, it just makes me want to not even play in Space anymore.

My Ship and components aren't the greatest, but they are above average, im using a TIE/In loaded with the best stuff I could find that was RE'd, looted, or crafted, I spent an over an hour just looking around at vendors and such to buy things to get the most out of my ship, and it has helped, but not nearly enough. I'm capped at Level 5 components and this mission has an absurb amount of Tier 3's in it, and then Tier 4's and 5's too.

Does anyone have a big tip that I might be missing or something? I realize that on some missions you should be grouping and not even try to attemptthem solo, but I can't find anyone thats willing to spend over an hour on a mission with a person they don't even know, I've even offered to pay. :/

I can't image what some of the later missions are like if im having problems at this stage...

Inquisition can be easily soloed, it's the easiest of all the Imperial Squadrons. I can't stand Black Epsilon myself, I put up a good fight in SS, but those Gunboats all the way through Tier 3 and 4 in BE is really tough for me.

Grab a friend for help. Also, for docking missions, you could actually dock with the ship. The waves are endless. The best thing to do is disable the first wave, and then quickly doc and hit CTSS if you get hit too much. Then booster away, very very fast.

Whats CTSS? And docking is the first thing I usually do if its required, the problem is the delivery part, I can't fly fast enough to get away, the endless waves just eventually catch up.

But yeah, I'll do what you said and try to find someone to team up with, and Imperial Inquisition is the easiest? Jeez.

All that quests are in JTL are wave after wave after (going for coffey) wave of fighters that attacks the frieghter you protects. These quests are so static and booring that it makes seeing concrete harden up really fun.

I would so love to pvp in jtl but honestly it suxs. I there was some kind of damage reduction yes but now... shield at 2400 and you get more than 5K damage i mean ok why even bother having a shield?

This expansion have alot of issues, problem is soe got a lot of íssues so im guessing it will stay booring and empty of people pvping in outer space.

You cant argue about missions being non-soloable. Why? This is a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online role playing game. That doesnt imply doing things, or being able to do everything by yourself, and everyone knew that was the type of game this was before they bought it.

Hey, it's the daily JTL-is-too-hard-blame-the-dev's-post.

JTL is skill based, that means that just maybe not everyone should be an Ace. Every mission is soloable, most of them very easily done. If you can't solo it, bring friends. But many many people have made it to Ace level in the past, the missions are very doable, and the setup is fine for most of us.

Why do I feel the need to respond to every thread like this? Because if those of us who like JTL don't keep our voices in the hat, then the sudden influx of new pilots griping about everything will bring about a CU in space.

Think of space as a challenge, and enjoy the process of getting Ace...rather then rushing to Ace, then complaining because you have no skills/equipment/there's nothing to do.

Get some friends to fly with, read the guides on this forum, and learn to use droid commands.

Are you using your pilot specials? The boost to engine speed and weapon power that they give can make all the difference.

Also, in some of the missions, you can hyperspace to another area of the same star system without failing the mission. That can be a life saver if you find yourself overwelmed by fighters.

All the Inqusition missions are definatly soloable, as I soloed everything but the corvette. But it will be easier with help.

I realize JTL is skill based, and I realize this is an MMORPG, I love JTL and find it amazing, its basically the old TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance games but re-done and in many cases very much improved.

I just find it a bit unfair that at this Tier (Seems im not the only one with gripes about the 2/2/2/2 SSexit mission) it can be this difficult. I posted this topic when I was tired andfrustrated as all heck having spentover 2hours and made no progress (Other than loot, oh the wonderful loot) so everything I said probably came off alot more extreme than I made it out to be.

That includes my comments on the Imperial Inquisition, which im switching back to as soon as I log in, I was still very much a newbie to JTL when I ran those missions which played a big part in my concerns with them.

I do use Droid Commands, aswell as the Pilot Skills, which oddly, I haven't failed even once whenusing Pump Reactor on my current ship, and I have an actual question about Droid Commands, is Weapon Overload 3 still bugged where it gives you the power but doesn't increase the drain per shot fired? I didn't see it mentioned in the last few months patch notes (I ran out of time before April) so I figure it might have been stealth fixed or something.

*cough* And then theres guys like me who soloed everything except 1 or 2 missions on their first go around at piloting. I eat gunboats and corvettes before my morning bowl of wheaties!

Theres a certain type of thinking you have to take to when doing missions.

But first of all, KNOW YOUR SHIP, PARTS, and DROID COMMANDS. Scarf up any info on those. Every morsal or tidbit of info When you have the stats on all ships memorized, when you can look at a ship and know exactly what you can fit in it, your doing good.

Having that foundation, you have to look at missions as not this huge mountain you have to climb, but rather a puzzle designed to test your tactical and logistical thinking. You have to fly smarter, not harder.

For example, think like.. hypering to a different quadrant within the same sector. Did you know you can do that? Thats GREAT for delivery missions.

Disableing rather then destroying. Disabeling takes a ship out of a fight in almost half the time it takes to destroy it.

Evaluating the threat. For example don't think in terms of, "OMG 3 GUNBOATS!!!", think in terms of, "ok i have the collective firepower 12 escorts and 3 gunboats, shooting at me, what is the best way for me to reduce that firepower and make them more managable?" That may sound like alot of thinking but its not, takes a about a 2nd to realize something like that once youve seen it once or twice.

Fly smarter, not harder, oh ya, see quote in sig about logistics, its true for JTL in so many ways its uncanny

Lol...

I've posted a "I need help" thread on this very subject a few days ago, and went around looking for ace pilots on Eclipse to help me, but everyone was "too busy", soI ended up soloing it.

This mission isn't hard if you figure out what exactly happens and why.

Where most people run into problems at is at the end of the 3rd leg, and right before the rendevous leg. Admittedly at this point I didn't even know how to use droid commands, heck haven't even used emergency weapons nor pump reactor either...but this mission is easily doable w/out them, as long as you have:

- 1200 shields
- 600ish front/rear armor
- engine rated at 80+ speed, and boosters rated above 30 (you want to get above 1100 when boosting for a quick get away)

Basically, just treat the 3rd leg as a normal escort mission. Now you should realize by now that the freighter will jump right before the Death Watch spawn (Tier 4/5 ships that you don't wanna mess with in your TIE/In), so when you are about 1500 from the Death Watch, hang back about 1200m behind the freighter, and let the freighter take the beating. It'll be fine and jump out with about 70% shield.

Once the freighter jumps, you need to get out of there...turn 180 and full speed/boosters to throw off your attackers. Once yer 1200m ahead of the nearest attacker (you should have 800+ max speed right now so they can't catch you), hyperspace to the 2nd hyperspace point in the system, that will take you to about 5k away from the rendevous point.

Approximately 2 waves of A Wings, I think 9-10 total, will jump in b4you reach the point. Just fly through the point, and as the shuttle shows up, fly towards the shuttle and keep the fighters on the other side, and dock. This way you end up using the shuttle as a shield for the first strafing run (don't worry if you mess this part up, with 1200 shields you'll hold up for 1 or 2 strafing runs b4 its out). By the time they come around, you should have finished docking as well as the mission.

Stay and fight if you want, or just get out of there.

Hope this helps.

A few comments relative to the mission design and all of the ship "imbalances" notwithstanding...

I have a 3323 Imperial Inquisition pilot, a 3322 RSF pilot, a 4333 Rebel pilot, and a 2322 Smuggler Alliance pilot. I started the Inquisition pilot when JTL came out, went to 3323 with at least one wingman on most of the T2 and T3 missions, and got frustrated after getting stuck on a mission and went back to the ground game.

Later, I started the other pilots andsoloedto my current levelswith ease. Case in point, I was fighting tier 2 TF's while completing some of my tier 3 missions in my Xwing. (Note...T2 TF's are *not* hard to kill when you're using a total of 3000-4800 points of total forward firepower...)

Yet, on the Inquisition path, I'm stuck on a mission where a shuttle bonks through my shields in ~4 hits. (1700 hp). There may be tactics to defeating that, granted, but on none of my other pilots have I had such a *tough* ship to fight at that level. Other examples abound, but I distinctly recall feeling like a kid in a candy store when doing my Rebel path. It was cake relative to what I was used to.

The RSF and Rebel path out of Talus were the easiest, and Smuggler's is slightly harder, but none compare to the Inquisition. Whew!!!
