I just got ROTW yesterday, after having gamed for a year and a half. I never got JTL, since space really wasn't my thing. But after trying to go to Kashyyyk, and being completely unable to do any damage in space, i started looking into this. I just got done with a live chat session with a CSR. (Manuel D)

He informed me that SWG does not support my ISP type (satelite) because it sends information in groups, as opposed to a constant stream. This is most likely the reason why it's not working...my interpretation: the game doesn't register the hits, because where YOU see the ship isn't really where it is.

IknowI was watching the shields light up for hours, and never seeing an decrease in even the shields.

Something for you to look at when you are experiencing combat issues in space. Seems that I'd be better off using dial - up.

I was on satellite internet access for a short time a few years ago. It is terrible for gaming, but since I lived in a rural area I had no other option. Check and see if you can get microwave based internet access in your area, that came around as a provider in my area and has speeds faster than your typical DSL connection. DSLreports.com is a good site for types of isp's in your area.

I've got wireless internet, it works OK except for some issues that crop up because I'm just barely in range for the service.... kept failing one of my Tier 3 pilot missions because the stupid ISP kept disconnecting on me that night.... but that's a seperate problem....

Yeah, I've been looking into other ISp options..... Didn't think about LOS though. Thanks!

Was starting to think that I was a complete moron (i'm normally only about a 50% moron =p) And every one I asked kept saying things like "it just takes a lot of practice. Don't worry Lux, You'll get it." And when I said that I could see myself hitting the shields, they said, "oh that's been going on forever, just find the sweet spot"

It's nice to know that I'm not crazy.

Yep i'm in the same boat. My options are sat or dial-up. Some one told me to check with my provider to see if they offera back up dial-up connection (some due because of down time for incliment weather, etc) this would give you a viable connection to play JTL. If not, then you're going to have to engage in combat, but rely on others to kill the ships for you (beg a guildmate/friend to be your wing man). You can gain xp this way, and you can complete the kashyyyk missions this way.

I do know that on dial-up the game responds very similar to my sat connection (started on dial-up then had sat available in the area). I'm looking into other ways to get around this too. If I find out any thing I will be sure to post it. But I'm not very hopeful.

I'm not sure if you've just been fobbed off with an excuse there mate, If your seeing the sheilds light up - then you must be damaging the ship:

If what you say the problem is, is true then that would mean your laser blasts would appear to be going THROUGH your target withouthaving ANY effectwould it not?

In order for the game to make the flashy effect of a sheild being hit, it must be being hit.

the visual representation of hits is calculated client side whereas the real damage taken and hits are calculated by the server, so if your trying to hit a ship which you see then it might be outdated information already with the enemy ship being elsewhere but your system doesnt know that yet (coz of delays with sending and receiving data from server)

one other thing is when your hitting a enemy npc ship and it does make a peep sound but do damage, that means the target is probably someones mission or you need a quest for it

Just to add my 2 cents, I can confirm this.

I just recently changed from a satellite company to a cable company and my game got much better.

I had the same problems mentioned above (disconecting, not registering direct hits in space, etc.) and since I changed all is OK and a lot faster.

Hope this helps our fellow gamers.

Yeah, satellite technology is very cool, but it just isn'tfast enough to support MMO gaming.

Plenty of speed, but horrible lag/latency. Your ping times on sat just can't cut the mustard...if it's circle strafing and jumping.

Well, pretty much the whole east coast alone, should have cable connection, since comcast serves most of the east coast... i know around where i live, i have a choice of 2 different cable companies that support cable internet lol :-p but comcast is best, almost no outtages, 3.1MB/s
