Thread: The role of bomber (Y-Wing and B-Wing)
- It is a bomber but it does not have more firepower than a X-Wing (two missile launchers and four weapons).
- Ok, it has more mass, but it's much more difficult to pilot than any other ship. Even my YKL-37R Nova or my Y-8 can turn faster than my B-Wing.
- Its main role is meant to be to attack large ships, like cargos, corellian corvettes, star destroyers, etc. It's a bomber, isn't it? But it's virtually impossible to survive to its fire because you're big, slow and crap. But you can even solo a Corellian Corvette with an A-Wing or a X-Wing!
So, could anyone here tell me what did I miss? Because I just don't understand what are Y-Wing and B-Wing for. As far as I know, it's all about speed and maneuverability. You fly quick, you don't get hit. And if you have good refire rate and the appropiate program chips, it's just a matter of hitting and hitting until you destroy the target. But you can't even think of bombing a big ship with a bomber.
Maybe there's no dev using a Y-Wing or a B-Wing, otherwise they would have already noticed.
Anyone could give me an explanation about this? Any official reports from the devs about this matter? I guess it's the same on the imperial side... ![]()

Until there are true strike missions in game, their role is pretty limited. Anything they can do, the Advanced X-wing can do better, though I will say that the Advanced X-wing does not pack nearly the firepower of the B-Wing, as you suggest.
What we need are not capital ships that are easily soloable by starfighters. We need capital ships covered in tier 5 fighter escorts. The ship itself needs to be able to shrug off most blaster fire, but be succeptible to space bombs, but only in mass quantities. That would encourage player groups to bring up a mix of supporting starfighters as well as heavy strike fighters that can load up on the torps.
I'm still working on RE'ing mine, the goal is to 1-shot tier 5 fighters and 4 or 5-shot Tier 5 gunboats. The drawback: 4 RE'd L10 guns required. To get 4 decent RE'd L10's you need about 100 to 200 looted. Patience is required.
In the meanwhile, I'm settling for a 4 L8 RE'd gun version with a L10 engine.
B-Wings live and die by CapShunt and a hellacious booster. They also require a very very very very gentle hand to control them because they do swim more than any other ship in the game. One overflicked wrist and you're cartwheeling helplessly.
I've been able to dogfight them with Tier 5 ships, but they're hideously inefficient at it. They really do need some assistance. If its not a speed boost, at least a substantial improvement to its inherent YPR. I can live with slow in PvE, its the uncontrollable that's killing it.
Correct me if im wrong but arent B-Wings supposed to be somewhat hard to fly thats why the rebels only gave them to the best of the best?

Maybe the Pilot Profession correspondant could tell us about it.
I would love to see high-end content that requires a team to dish out huge amounts of damage to a capital ship. Say >1mil shield energy with pretty high recharge. A team of B-wings/Y-wings (or Oppressors/Bombers) blasting with ions and launching spacebombs while a squad of a-wings/x-wings keeps the fighters off of the bombers as well as to screen the bombers.
