THAT is the right time to buy a player made part-2) xp: find your own personal grinding spot at one of the POIs throughout the galaxy-i have one, but cannot share that info otherwise people will be all over that place-grinding spots are for xp-when your trainer gives you duty missions, screw them: a personal grinding spot is 3 times better than any duty mission. just get enough xp for your next skill, then your pilot will give you your proper quest missions which are important for advancment in skills-3) knowing your targets: of course you will want to kill the easiest targets firsteasiest Imperial: (Regular) Tie Fighter, then Bomber, then Interceptor, then Advanced, then Oppressor, and finally Aggressor.easiest Rebel: Y-Wing (Both kinds), then Z95, then X-Wing, then B-Wing, and finally the A-Wing (tricky little things)easiest Freelance: Kimogila, then Heavy Black Sun Fighter, then Dunelizard, then Ixyien, then Light Black Sun Fighter, and finally Syckfollow these easy steps if you haven't before, and i garantee a 75% increase in success in your JTL expieriencemay the force be with you . . . .-GomMessage Edited by Gom_Kuub on 01-10-2005 08:08 PM

You didn't mention anything about getting looted parts Reverse Engineered by a shipwright which will improve the quality of the parts to your benefit.
You also didn't put in the pros of doing duty missions. For a start they can make you far better money than simply grinding as you get bonuses for each objective completed and an overall bonus for completing the duty mission. Secondly, it's the only way I've found of getting to dogfight against six ships (except for some missions) which will definitely help you improve your skill.
It's also worth mentioning that if you want to grind, group with someone else. You get the same xp for hitting ships with a couple of shots as you do for destroying it by yourself but the two of you can take down higher tier ships much quicker than just one of you can.
My two euros worth anyway.

Ignoring SW crafted components is a mistake. SW's make better Armor hands down. They typically make better Shields and can often make better Engines than most people can loot. To make a blanket statement like "never used player made parts, always used looted ones -it's faster, free, and usualy better at the apropriate tier" is to handicap yourself and anyone who follows your advice.

I second this, especially in the higher tiers. I've never looted an engine over about 80 speed, and that one had a 50K mass! I can make a 98.9 speed engine even with the crap HGP radioactive that has spawned lately. A quick further explination on RE parts:
If you loot 2 level 2 armor plates, one mass of 1000 with 250 hp and another with a mass of 6000 with 100 hp a shipwright can RE them into one piece with a mass of 1000 and 250 hp! RE'ing checks the stats on each piece and uses the best ones in the final piece, plus a small percent bonus. You can do wonderful things with weapons too, get low mass, high damage and good vs shields and armor by combining disruptors and Ions. Make sure to tell the SW if any piece has a visual you like so they can put that in first and keep it for the final, this works on weapons, engines, and boosters. RE'ing does get difficult at the higher levels due to the amount of pieces you need, generaly 1 for each level, but you can come up with some exceptional parts. I have a level 2 reactor that weighs 1500 and has an output of almost 12000!

one thing i've found..
its worth buying a SW Shield Generator and leaving armor off (mass constraint on X-wing)... a good shield is far better than having a mediocre shield and a mediocre armor..

I disagree to a point. The best equiptment I have was looted.... but then it was re-engineered by a shipwright. Every piece of equip on my Decimator is level 8-10 re-engineered loot and I must say it's quite nice. Same thing goes for my Oppressor. I spend a lot of my time in space (if not all lately) and I know my shipwright very well. From what I'm seeing it is best to collect looted gear and have it reworked as opposed to having something built from scratch. Especially when talking about shields, reactors, and capacitors. My armour is crafted directly by the shipwright though, it is true they make very nice armour especially when mass is not an issue (like on a POB ship).
At the lower tiers though, re-engineering is easier. to RE a level 3 part you need 3 of that level and part. For a lvl 10 you need 10 of that part. (example to RE a lvl 10 engine you need 10 lvl 10 looted engines for the SW to RE for you.)
Shipwright is a wrthy profession and I believe they need to change things around a bit so the crafted gear is closer to the looted stats. For now though it seems that re-engineered high tier equiptment is the way to go for me.
1) You can find shipwright made components better than looted components on everything except capicators. That has been my experience. I usually buy SW reactors and shield generators. Heavy weapons are also good. They are not that expensive considering that you make hundreds of thousands of dollars on selling components to the chassis dealer.
2) As far as which targets to attack first. Always go for the bombers first. Otherwise, you will be feeling the pain of a missle up your backside. The bombers are slow moving also so should be easy to destroy once you lock onto them.
3) Yes, there are spots where spawning is good and those are the best places to grind the xp. As far as missions pay close attention to what your objectives are. In missions which you are required to dock with something. Do that immediately ignoring the attacking ships. Just reinforce shields/emergency power or overcharge capicator then shunt to shields. Paying attention to the mission objectives is key to go through stuff easily slowly.
However, if you're new to SWG or just starting with JTL (low bank account balance) I think looted components are the absolute best way to go due to pricing.
If you are going to do Deep Space, Kessel, or PvP in general, then you better customize, and get on good terms with a Shipwright because you will be replacing armor on your ship faster than you loot it. (repair decay is going to east this stuff up fast)
With looted components, its totally the luck of the draw with the quality of the part, with a SW, you are guaranteed a good part.
and when doing PvP you need the best parts you can get.
Biggest problem with using the orginal posters method, is you as a pilot, will totally suck. PvP'ers will have you for breakfast because you wont know what to do if a TIE fighters starts doing things that a NPC one doesnt do. You will suck in groups too because you have no idea how to fly as a team.
