Mando, you are dangerously close to reaching Troll status.

I am not sure which BETA you were in, but a very very large majority of BETA players had to pick there collective jaws up off the floor when they announced the real release date. It was obvious to us that the game was not ready for launch and we argued our point to anyone who would listen. The BETA players were not the reason this game went live to soon, and neither were the devs... It was the money men, the suits, the bean counters, the ceo's. They all wanted to see some money come back from the millions they put into development and were not going to wait any longer. Since they are in charge they had say over the devs and the BETA players. It was there directive that brought this game out at least 2 months to early. (2 Months of fixes during a BETA phase is about 12 months of fixes toa live game in many ways)

Don't blame me for the bugs that are in the game, there are bugs I submitted in beta that are still in game today. I am a fan and I did not want this game to come out when it did.

Mando, if you can't see the reasons given by myself and others as to why voicechat actually PERPETUATES roleplaying in this game and not destroy it, then you are very shortsighted.

Not everyone carries a comlink on the ground, and the ground game does not require "2-hands on the stick" so to speak. You can load the queu and just type away. Comlinks are in every spaceship, and the ONLY way a pilot can talk to another ship. And the ONLY way that happens is through holo-communication or voice-com. To do anything but voicechat in space is not Star Wars and not immersive.

Get it?

Agree with Obi-Zem completely. If you were in beta manda you would have known that many of us if not everyone stated taht the game was nowhere near being ready for release. People ignorant to the goings on of beta, like you seem now, accused us of wanting to play the game a few more months and delay the game.

Guarantee you a good number of those idiots came back a few weeks later to complain about how bad the game was. They completely and conveniently forgot that they blasted us beta testers for wanting the game to work as well as can be expected right from the start.

I haven't programmed this game so you or anyone else cannot blame me for the bugs, the fact that the economy's screwed up royally, the fact that everyone looks like a ninja in this game with composite armor, the fact that afk play is the best way to do anything in this game...etc. You want to blame someone you turn your head towards SOE and make sure you hold your tongue before you blame another single person for the fault of the suits and developers.

Yes i've read his proposal, i still don't think it's better than true voice chat. The ability to converse with your wingman in a fasion where you don't accidently press the wrong button. Also, send them after the wrong target, instead of getting the enemy off your back. Also, the "macro chat" won't be specific, it would be something like, "shoot him down!", or "form up". It will not however say, "attack my target on the left side of me, but stay away from that captial ship's blast fire, and it has missles." The"macrochat",would also cause confusion at some point. Let's say one of the wingmates are in trouble and they start spamming the panic button.... another starts spamming attack my target, it wouldn't work out. Unless they could communicate better bytelling why we need to say on target than help him, typing doesn't cut it.Another reason, would be you wouldn't be able to mute someone that is spamming for no reason...On this forums voice chat system, you would be able to mute people.

So, simply, i think regular voice chat would be a lot more helpful than pressing a button with defaults.

You still dont get it..... You say Form up, and in the Dial you type Form on my wing... or whatever you want!!!! then when you sayd form up, the system reconises it and your Group knows where to go.... meaning you can make as many as you want!!!!!! and say whatever you want! you just wont here that person talk, which keeps RPG still in tack..

ill say this more clear for the last time.....

before your even in space:

You make a VoiceCommand.... set name to FormUp

you say *form Up*

The text to spawn on screen when you say form up is whatever you type in before hand...

as your in space:

You *say* Form up

The system reconise you saying it,

Posts message on the Groups Screen *Whatever you had typed*

and were all happy....

I hope everyone gets it now.... but i still doubt SOE will even Consider Voice Chat even thou it is still a great idea just...

NOT FOR A MMORPG

1) Voice Chat does not destroy the RPG aspect of a MMORPG. Compared to typing on a keyboard and reading chat text it enhances the potential RPG aspect quite a bit.

2) Tapping keys on the keyboard (which your suggesting) in order to geta limited number of generic sayings, does not hold a candle to a true hands free voice chat system for dynamic high speed twitch based space combat in a multiplayer coop situation.

3) Lag issues would be handled just fine but have the voice chats on there on dedicated server clusters. Potential lag would also be reduced by limiting voice chat channels to JTL groups actually flying in space together.

4) No one will be forced to use voice chat, it should be an optional thing that you can turn off if not needed or wanted.

5) People will not have to be constantly switching voice chat apps when they run into someone new.

6) If they Devs don't have a chance to put voice chat in themselves before launch, then in the meantime they should choose a 3rd party app that they will ship on the JTL disc and that they will authorizethe use of this 3rd partyprogram while playing swg. This most people will be using the same app anyway. I think what most of use really want though is for the voice chat system to be fully integrated with JTL.
