Hey! What do you have against Squad Leader? It's not a great solo profession but it's a ton of fun with groups. How many of you are ever able to convince your friends to walk to missions with you? Group Terrain Negotiation really helps there. And who doesn't like having their dizzy cured when a Giant Canyon Krayt or a Gorax or a Peko Peko Albatross or etc decides to AoE dizzy/knockdown (not to mention how many people's lives are saved if their tanks get up quickly when such a hit does land)? And that unlimited burst run really can help your group catch that pesky critter that decided to warp (or the pesky kiter, NPC or PC). And the extra defenses let myfriends who are not uber leet combat stackers (including crafter/combat hybrids and non master combatants) survive a bit easier. Yeah, Squad Leader is not perfect. But neither is Ranger. They both have some use, though, and they both have a ton of potential.
If you like groups, Squad Leader is a great choice. Before picking up Squad Leader, I had tried quite a few other professions (I think my count is somewhere near 13 now, not including several remasteries). The combat professions are nice but they get boring reasonably quickly (especially with the solo mentality these days). Squad Leader gets me into many groups that I would never have a chance to join otherwise and lets me be very useful to any group I am in (I even group with crafters sometimes so they can get to their harvestersand factories behind their houses without needing to call their swoop). As far as the solo game goes, I can still survive reasonably well like this. I can still manage to kill low level stuff without trouble and can even do upper mid level stuff (like rancors) unbuffed and unarmored. Although I will usually group with at least a pet for the extra defense.

With hunting IV...what amounts would I be able to harvest off of various animals? I've never been a scout before and I'm just curious if its worth picking up Hunting IV for a week or so to make some cash. I'm really just looking for an average...but if the number varies greatly between species....then specifics will work too. I hope thats not too confusing and you all understand what I'm asking

Depends on a number of variables.
Using veghash, what strength? Using a harvestor droid, what percentage? What are you going to hunt? What combat skills do you have?
I get 25 units off a crazed durni, 30% more than a master scout, so that's about 16-18 for the master scout. What do you get now?
Unless there is a great meat drop on your server, getting scout for a week or so will not make you a ton of money.

Kinetic and energy cap at 60% and 100% on everything else except lightsaber for BE. There are tameables that exceed this but they are few and far between
