SSSnuggles, you obviously know what you are talking about. I am doing the 6 combat missions (Combat and Enhanced Reflexes), and I have 4 unlocks, what do you suggest I unlock with it being phase 3 (melee acc and enhanced range def), phase 4 next (ranged speed and enhanced melee defense), phase 1 (ranged acc) and phase 2 (melee speed). I am very sorry to have this noobism, I just came back to the game.

I understand what you said about unlocking what will be the last things i could get (obviously one of the phase 3s and phase 1 and 2), but what if i unlock those other 4 and the phase 3 mission i accept today ends up not being doable in phase 4.. then id have to wait to get to phase 3 all over again... if you could help me i would be eternally grateful.

Snug, from what I read I'm assuming I should unlock one of the phase 3s (melee acc), a phase 4, a phase 1 and a phase 2... then i can do the phase 3 mission today and the phase 4 mission sometime in novemeber, correct?

I would suggest you don't use your freebies yet, but instead just attempt to do the Melee Accuracy mission before the phase switch (as the ranged def one is gated to last at least 3 days). Then in phase 4 do whichever you prefer (whichever seems easier I guess). Once you have successfully unlocked both of yours, use your 4 freebies on whatever other four skills you want. This will ensure that your freebies aren't wasted. Something you might be missing is that when you quest unlock you still must grind the xp, but when you freebie-unlock you get all the xp to train that branch. So assuming you have 4 freebies, and everything goes well with your two unlocks, then all you'll have to do is grind out the xp for those two branches.

Make sense?

The stock answer is "the one that best fits with your play style". Do you prefer getting up close and personal with big smelly monsters, hacking them to bits or punching their fangs down their throat, or do you prefer to stay away out in the long grass, using stealth and wit to get the best shot on the bad boy, then drop it with a well placed blaster burst between the ears?

There is no one size fit's all 'best'.

Some players prefer to use ranged weapons, to 'hunt' properly. Other players prefer the cut and thrust of fencer / swords, dealing out masses of damage with every blow. Still others eschew weapons entirely and use brute strength to pummel their prey into a stunned, dizzy, blind pile of hide and bone.

Which style most suits you? Which most closely reflects your current combat choice? Which , ultimately, would YOU be happiest with?

Wow, nice answer.

Any master combat profession that fits your play style is effective for solo hunting in order to gather resources. I chose tkm so that I can solo the really nasty creatures that poison and disease without worrying about my bar turning black before I can find a doc. I also like that I can heal my own wounds (because ancient bull rancors hit really, really hard). But, as the poster above me put it so eloquently, choose whatever your little heart desires.

Pistoleer and Medic. But that's jsut my opinion. Pistol has many flavors to be able to do damage on about everything. Medic to heal the boo boos and ouchies you get.

Oops, forgot, and a doctor in the guild who can cure the evils nasties.

I prefer rifles, JB prefers pistols, Nemo0 prefers Squad Leader ...I posted this to point out that there is not 'best' combat professio to go with Ranger as Almagill so eloquently pointed out.

great answer.

as far as role-playing a Ranger, i think Rifleman or Carbineer would best suit a Professional Hunter more than any other combat profession.

but as many have already said, it all depends on how you want to play. if you want to be a Master Creature Handler Master Ranger, than do it. or if you want to be a Ranger with some Smuggler and some Pistoleer, go for it. or pikeman Ranger, or any other combination. this is a game, not a job, so do what makes you happy.

personally, i started the game off as a Bounty Hunter. i had visions of players putting bounties on other players, and i'd track them down and do that player's dirty work, and collect a handsome payment for it. but alas, that never came to pass. (plus, BH Carbines was a pain in the ass to grind).

I was at the temple of the Blueleaf one day while still a BH, grinding carbine xp, and i was in real bad shape, almost dead, then out of nowhere, this unarmored fella comes rushing in, and with these crazy spin kicks, and punches faster than i can imagine, he drops every one of those Dark Klikniks that were on me. I was in awe over how efficiently he dropped these critters. I knew that whatever profession this guy was, that was the one for me. he told me i needed to put the gun down, and realize that i cannot master a weapon in hand, until i master the weapons that ARE my hands. and from that day forward, i have never picked up a gun.

personally, i enjoy beating the snot out of creatures with my spiked ubese gloves (but shouldn't those gloves cause bleeding?)

Well I know if you have no healer your already dead. Who's gonna healed you when your out in the middle of nowhere and a BH pop's up with his DOT weapons? So I know healer is a must at 4-0-0-4 if not mastered. LS dont gotta be mastered but should. As far as enhancer or defender goes Im sure neither gotta be mastered so I could prolly go 2 tree's in each. Anyone eles have opions on this?
