You know one the reason you're asked to post there is so it doesn't get lost.

If it's there you anyone can find it easily even a year from now. If it was a discussion about TKM & Jedi then a new post would be the place for it but you proved that this is just another template question that should be there. Insted it will get lost simply as this thread will probably be locked by GarVa or another Mod so that it does get lost.

The fact people still try & post these threads even after they no better is one of the reasons the questions often get little reply, as others don't realise it's there.

Plenty of people read the stickies, and if you added your question then it gets bumped to the top where it can be contemplated by the rest of us.

I am a member of this forum as much as anyone else. I prefer to help keep it clean as much as possible, even in Ryutek's absence. This benefits everyone who frequents here, I only tried to point you to the thread we use for template questions, as that is the best place to find what you're looking for.

A few comments I'd like to add, and some questions to ask:

First, I would hope that the forum is still fun to post in for everyone, and that the basis of that viewpoint is rooted in constructive and fun discussion between all members of the Community. If the forum gets to where you feel "afraid" to post or that you "dread" to post (though those are definitely not the best choice of words, I just do not have another way to word it) then I am failing in my capacity as Correspondent. That is definitely something that I want to ensure does not happen, and am always looking for better ways to accomplish that goal.

ITK5, I understand your position quite well, and initially would have probably responded the exact same way with a "Please post template questions in this thread" type of response. It comes from two different viewpoints that are trying to achieve a common result. I want to keep as much template information together, both for ease of reference and for maintaining as little clutter as possible, in order to help maintain a positive, constructive forum that benefits everyone. You also want everyone to benefit from the discussion, but you feel that the information may/will get lost if not posted in a new thread. (I hope I'm understanding that correctly at any rate)

Travon and Mankind have been doing a phenomenal job of helping to maintain that clutter so that I can continue to focus energy in other areas, as well as allowing me to read more posts because I know I can rely on their help in responding to template and VK questions instead of having to respond myself. That is part of why they responded as they did, and nothing more.

The question then becomes this: What can we do to maintain the constructive, positive forum we all love and still keep the boards from being cluttered with redundant posts?

Honestly, I have no clue what else can be done aside from directing discussions into similar threads to keep clutter down. That is what spurred the creation of the stickies here today. I do agree that there has been a lack of positive discussion, partially due to awaiting CU/R/B information and partially because it has been rehashed many times before. We should still promote that discussion, instead of "joking" about ideas (like the recent thread about the Grappling Hook, where the poster had an honest and good intent and was instead "mildly flamed" for their idea). That is something that I feel still needs to be worked on, but is a continual cycle, and one that I hope is improving.

So, just to reiterate, the question is:

What can we do to maintain the constructive, positive forum we all love and still keep the boards from being cluttered with redundant posts?

I'm going to sticky this so we can get some discussion going, as I would like to have everyone's input.

Sorry if my reply did come accross rude to you as it did not meen to be, it was the third attempt at posting after the boards ate my posts so I just put down a couple of the points.

Originaly I did point towards some information that you would find usful (page 4/5 of the first template thread which is the opinions of some TK Jedi if my memory serves).

My reason for replying was that this is something I did want to see some opinions on, I have little experience with Jedi TK Templates & would like to see some stuff. But this was a template thread so would get locked / deleted / ignored by many who do know about the template threads. As well as that I didn't want to see it get lost, the template threads are easy to look through & find, hopfully they always will be as in my opinion they do help alot, I even find myself looking there for advice I've given in the past if a friend of mine is asking me ingame about TK Templates.

Again though, sorry if I came across as rude, I just like to see the more intresting template convosations carry on, which wouldn't happen in a new thread.

Edit: Retyped second half so that it makes more sense (hopfully).

What can we do to maintain the constructive, positive forum we all love and still keep the boards from being cluttered with redundant posts?

As you have said already theres little that can be done as there seems to be little to talk about at the moment, looking back a few pages it seems most the more popular threads have been either related to the CU/R/B & the general future of TK & the Famous Quotes thread.

I think we could do with more discussions going on that are in aid of seeing what people think of the proffesion as it is & what they like to do with it as opposed to the question & answer style threads we seem to get most the time, convosation about thoughts on what way people would like to see TK go after the CU/R/B would be another example (I know we have had these before however there are new TKs & others will have changed their minds) even though it will have no direct impact on the future of TK as the CU/R/B is under development (& soon Alpha phase testing) I think threads like that can be intresting however there is little some of our posters would be able to put in, simply as they know whats coming & so can't talk about it.

I think that once we have more CU/R/B information though we will start geting some intresting convosations, maybe the armour information thats due this week will lead to something for example. But untill then I think it's very much a case of if it's to do with TK it's been talked / whined / nerf-cried about as much as it can be & so many threads end up with the exact same answers & we have had no changes (I can't recall any changes to TK in the last year) so theres been nothing new to talk about.

Anyway I hope that makes a little more sense then it did when I posted it last night.

First i need to apologize for responding in a rude manner.

While i like the clean look in the TKA forum there are member who quickly Respond by:
Check Stickies:
This has been discussed before do a search.
Stop trolling
The fact people still try & post these threads even after they no better
.
.

Some of us have been Teras Kasi for a long time, I have seen a lot of new players as of late.
But what kind of feed back will we get from new players if they can't post new topics (well new topics to them but old to us)?
Even if they have been posted before or sticky on top.
I love to hear about Player templates...and discussion.
The stickies work great for Tutorials or Info on TerasKasi.

I posted a topic on a template containing TKA and Jedi and wanted a positive response, but before anybody could respond i got a replay from TTTTRav about the sticky. Then Mankinds reply with "The fact people still try & post these threads even after they no better is one of the reasons the questions often get little reply, as others don't realize it's there.

I mean honestly if you don't have anything to say about the thread don't post a reply.

I understand the sentiment well, and struggled with the idea of finally creating Template Threads for that reason. However it reached a point where you could not read through other posts without first sifting through dozens of template questions that asked the same thing. Template questions, to me, are just further "Informational Posts" that work great in a sticky, and why I started pushing for those questions to be asked in a single thread. I still, and will always, stand behind that decision.

As of late the ideas presented, whether old news to us or not, have been met rather harshly, and that is something I have been watching closely as of late to try to ensure it does not continue. All ideas are welcome, and no one should be flamed for their idea. They should be met with debate, and if the idea has been presented so many times that it starts cluttering the boards then a single, consolidated thread that everyone is pointed to in order to continue the discussion should be made (my personal view).

I do agree that this question should have been asked in the Template Thread, and fits well there. I understand well the reason for the quick response of posting it there in order to keep it in one place and not leave this thread to "clutter" as well. I also understand your viewpoint of the responses, and it is the reason I asked the question above
