i most definately would use different components for each ship. the only difference between increasing the # of ships in the datapad, and what many, MANY players will do, is one requires you to put things in bags and spend the time rearranging. thus the point of this thread, whether it's a big deal or not is besides the point, it's cubersome for no logical reason. if there is a logical reason, then by all means, state it. if not, then why not increase the ship count?

I can see that with Imp or Reb. Privateer gets no master fighter, so I have to stick with my Rihk and my YT. Any other ship in the privateer profession is useless because of having only 80k mass or less. If I find that the Firespray handles better than the Rihk, say bye-bye to the Rihk, hello Firespray.Still, that's two outfitted ships and a yacht. 3 datapad items.Granted, like I said, the only reason why that works for me is that the Privateer profession is kinda gimped, and we have no other useful ship, especially at Master.Message Edited by truewildman on 11-13-2004 01:12 PM
Privateers I feel you. Only Imps and Rebels, actual participants in Space PvP need more than 3 ships. Privateers are content dependent. Once you Master the profession you essentially become a "bus driver" for your buddies on your YT-1300. Yesterday a group of use entered Deep Space inside a YT-1300, this is the Master Ship for Privateers. However it is completely dependent on a crew capabale of working together, a pilot, an operations officer and two players manning turrets, one or more players repairing conduits, healing those that do the repairs.
Imps and Rebels also have Multiplayership but there is no one, I mean no one waitng in line for a ride on a Nova Courier. The Decimator is a lot more apealing. The YT-1300 is cool because of its association with the Star Wars movies, it is refered to as the "Falcon" in teamspeack for a reason. Everyone wants to be in a "Falcon".
Now back to the theme of this thread. Basically because there is no reason to keep a multiplayer ship if you are an Imp or a Rebel, it is only natural to maximize the number of fighters, bombers and assualt ships in your datapad. Imps know this, sometimes you want an Aggressor sometimes the mission calls for a bomber. The default Rebel attack ship is the X-wing. The A-wing is a fast attck ship, the Y-wing is a bomber and the B-wing makes Imps cry!
So basically I'd like enough room in my datapad for all four ships.

But I agree, three ships is not enough. Especially if you're a Veteran, you'll want the SoroSuub. That's one ship slot (and one lot) gone, leaving only two. When I master, I'll only be able to have a B-Wing and a Nova Cruiser. I'd really like to keep my X-Wing that I have now, but currently I can't do that. And redeeding my SoroSuub is out of the question... I took many hours decorating that baby just to throw her away.

The amount of Data to store another ship is insignificant compared to the necessary space required to populate the schemas needed to generate the world graphics, terrain, the NPC mobs, the trees and the missions. Besides they are propably using Oracle 7 architecture and a massive, massive Network Appliance, possibly in the terabytes! We can only hope.
