How do you reverse engineer a looted ship part? Is there a terminal or do you have to have a special kit? Thanks

Have to make yourself a Component Analysis Tool, or somehow acquire one.
Then just stick in the same number of similar parts as the RE level on them. ie, 6 RE Level 6 engines

You also have to have the Shipwright SKILL to be able to RE the specific component type and level you want to RE.

Oops. Yeah, forgot about that part. There's a skill bonus on certain Shipwright trees, (component/system) Reverse Engineering, ie. Chassis/Armor Reverse Engineering +1 for the Spaceframe Engineering I: Small Chassis box.
You must have a bonus equal to the level of the parts you are trying to RE.
Example:
You're wanting to RE a level 6 engine.
Must haves:
6 RE level 6 engines
1 Component Analysis Tool
At least Propulsion Technology III: Advanced Hyperdrive Engineering (will give you Propulsion Reverse Engineering of +7)
While it's best to be a master shipwright, it's not required, as having the extra +3 does not provide any extra bonus to the final product, merely allows you to RE parts up to RE level 10. Plus, once you are master, you don't have to worry if you have the skill or not to RE everything.
