It SHOULD be, IMO. That how I started the whole thing. I said that if being a mster of ANY CLASS were rare, it would make the person that achived it special. Remember when you saw the first guy with a huge pet, or a mount, or anything like that? It takes out the ordinary and makes things special. Thats what I would like to see, but it isn't in the ground game. Perhaps this is a way for SOE to change it.
Mastering a profession is an accomplishment, you mastered it, not everyone chooses to master that profession, they can but they dont. making it rare by placin a quota does only one thing, it reward 16 hour a day gamers, that's it. That is who owns AV-21, Jet packs, and Firesprays 16 hours a day gamers. In an MMO you can make gear rare, but limiting professional achievement will cause the game to fail. Examples.
Everquest- Level based 1-70. If only X number of players can get lvl 70, why have 70 lvls listed, by the time you get to the cut off you failed, not because of lack of skill but because of lack of time, if you can only play an hour a day by your account that makes you less of a skilled player then a 16 hour+ a day gamer.
City of Heroes- Level based 1-50. If only X number of players can get lvl 50, why have 570 lvls listed, by the time you get to the cut off you failed, not because of lack of skill but because of lack of time, if you can only play an hour a day by your account that makes you less of a skilled player then a 16 hour+ a day gamer.
Lack of time to fill the quota does not mean lack of skill, except to you.
Hey, first, I know it will never happen, it's my oen little fantasy ok?
But see, here is the issue - "by the time you get to the cut off you failed" you didn't fail. You simply did not become the best there is. Thats not a problem, only so many can be the best
See, thats the thing - getting to level 70, or being a master at something to me isnt the goal - having fun, and meeting interesting people and seeing things for th first time is. Thats why it will never bother me
As multiple people have said, dont want to get master? dont want to see master? Dont become master. Somehow you think that because you dont wanna see it, everyone else shouldnt be able to get it. And if you have fun doing other things congradulations. But what I want is at master pilot, the decimator. And in order for me to have fun, I have to get the decimator, since it is my goal.

So when it's me, I have to suck it up, but when it's you - you should have it? I accepted that my way is never going to happen, but you have to have yours? You can, but to do it, you have to goto Kessel.
It's a simple matter of choice.

If your goal was to master, then you failed. And you may have fail not because you are not the best but because the quota is filled. 5 masters per server each profession equals 175 masters total. If it worked that way and you bought the game tomorrow you failed, quota filled, not that you are not the best of the best but because you are number 250,218 out of 250,218.
Very few players above the 175 per server would stay and play if they could never accomplish any goal and in every MMO achieveing master, highest level, or whatever is a goal. Getting rare loot is a dream.

Heh, I never said this was a viable MMO idea

It proves your mind set is way outside conventional thinking for one, so you thoeries on the issues in these posts revovle around this elite theory. Your opinions on MP are based on your belief that MP is rare as you feel all professions are. While you may know this is not how the game is run, it forms the core belief for your opinions on MP so it is very relevant to expose. Your an extremist, your views reflect a concept that is impractical, and not realistic and not implemented and should be treated as such.
Bah, I have nothing to say to that ![]()
But I did like our argument ![]()
QBallz wrote:Seriously anyone who says the pvp system is fine the way it is, is pretty much a griefer. If you look at the other arguments on this board, you can see that pretty much the only people defendingthe current systemcannot make a coherent argument and result to attacking the person's character. If you are going to force people topvp then make a pvp system that works, the ability to one or two shot someone in an MMORPG is generally not a good pvp system. This is basically MMORPG Counterstrike in space where everyone has an AWP. The only problem with this is that 90% of the time your trying to kill an NPC for a stupid mission, and have it fail because someone flys in and one shots you. This is basically griefing at it's finest. Just look at Ultima Online, same exact problem, you where trying to kill an NPC and get ganked by some PKer. It was griefing then, and it is griefing now, and there is pretty much no way to defend it other than that you get off from causing grief to other players.Getting one shotted is not exciting or fun.One shotting someone is not exciting or fun nor is it "challenging".There is no skill involved in one shotting someone from behind. There is no skill involved in camping hyperspace points. This form of grief has existed in other MMORPG and in all cases the PvP system was either heavily modified or a PvP "Switch" was implemented. The reason is basically that the ability to grief without consequence ruins the game for everyone but the griefers, and causes people to quit.Lets so how many people grief this post.
this is not a mmorpg combat bud. realize that.
this is a SIMULATION.
