I'll be playing both SWG and EQ2.. i may check out WOW but the jury is still out on that one.

As for halo 2, yeah it'll be fun, once my friends come over as thats all i even use Halo 1 for heh heh.

Halo2= 4 player fun but without 2-4 people Halo and Halo 2 are wasted in my opinion, and since i dont play XBL much that wont matter too much either... oddly enough i'm more excited for the Nintendo DS than GTA or Halo 2... *shrug*

I'm sure we will definately notice a drop in players but I dont think it will be all that bad. JTL will bring some old players back to SWG as well as bring in new players.

The main reason for any drop in players, as other people have noted, is SWG's lack of customer service and poor dev communication.

The game that has the most to lose IMHO is EQ. People who are into fantasy settings will naturally want to try out WoW or EQ2.

Wow looks like it has some good ideas TBH.

-No kill stealing. (mobs get tagged)
-No loot camping (good items bind to character so you cant sell it)
-All main dungeons/zones instanced.
-LOOT.
-Pure PVP server.
-You get Xp from missions not just farming/grinding.

SWG just seems to be too far ahead of its time. A completely player run world is great idea on paper but in reality just isnt that 'fun'. Im sick of waiting for SWG to become fun, which im sure it will eventually, my patience and interest is wearing out and am tempted by wow. I just hope JTL isnt a lag fest or its over for me

All these have been used in other games, nothing new in WoW. And player-run worlds to me has been a lot of fun. I'm not a big fan of NPC vendors. Being able to rely on other players to get the stuff I need has been great. As far as "not fun", what do you want? SWG has more quests and theme parks/dungeons than most MMORPG's out there. I agree, maybe the "grind" is tedious and could be worked on, maybe make it more of a quest system. But then again, every MMORPG I've played has a "grind". We have EQ to thank for the "grind" and "camping".

Personally, I've had more fun with this game than any other MMORPG. I played EQLive off and on for 3 years, total playing time maybe 50 hours. I played AC, same result. I tried FF11, put in about 2 months. I've played SWG for about 14 months now, left the game here and there due to financial reasons (but never more than a month), and for all it's "boredom" I'm still playing. Why? Because everything else out there is even more boring.

Funny story here:

Friend of mine (who's a big MMO player)got into the WoW beta. At first, just like a lot of people (myself included), he was really looking forward to WoW's release. In the beginning of the beta, he raved about the game and all the things in it (We were also pretty big into EQ back in the day), and the things it got right. But as each new patch to beta came in, he started to notice a serious decline in the quality of the game. He played beta for about 6 months, then finally became disgusted with it and gave it up. Why, you ask?

Simply put, all the original ideas that were in it (the things that made it unique) when he started beta got removed patch after patch. Classes that were once decent (not overpowered) to play (like Mages and Paladins) were nerfed to the point of being practically worthless. Now some might use the excuse "Well, it's only beta", but my friend was not the only one who complained about the constant changes to the game, as i read post after post on the official WoW Beta Community Forum board of people complaining about WoW's decline towards being "just another MMO, same as the rest." Several people even compared it to EQ, but with cartoonish graphics! My friend even told me when he showed the game to another friend of his, the guy said "Wow, they added an undead race to EQ?"

Now granted, a lot of stuff works in the game better than it does in a lot of live MMOs, but that don't necessarily make it fun to play though. And it doesn't bode well that everytime someone posts something negative about the game in the forums I mentioned, those posts eventually get "deleted". As far as EQ 2 goes, EQ left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, and that might turn a lot of people off to "EQ Version 2.0". Not everyone is a fan of EQ, so not everyone will be attracted to it.

You also have to take into account the "comeback" audience. I played EQ before I started playing this (as I mentioned before) on and off over the course of 3 years. There were times when I would takea "break" from the game simply cause it got boring or tedious. But ultimately, I would pick it up again. Even with this game, my friends and I did the same. We started shortly after the game went live, then gave it up for a period of time to try some of the new MMOs out to see how they were, but ended up coming back here (IMO, this game is a lot more fun than some of the others out there). Believe me, you'll see. When EQ 2 or WoW fail to live up to expectations (perhaps due to a lack of content at launch), people will grow bored with them and "fall back" on older MMOs (like this one).

A lot of people are just interested to check out the newest "craze", and some will latch onto it, and some won't. And as others mentioned, some people will play this and others at the same time (I've played 2 MMOs at the same time myself before). Also, as people mentioned, not everyone wants to use a sword and shield and kill orcs (or rats). This game is a change of pace from the others in the sense that not only is it set in a popular universe, but it's space themes and 2 gamestyles in one (MMO and Twitch-based Space Combat Game) is unique amongst MMOs, and a definite draw for people.

In the end, only time will tell what happens. After all, look at UO. That's one of the first MMOs that ever came out, and yet it must have an audience still as they continue to release expansions for it (Just released one recently as a matter of fact). My point: Don't count SWG out just yet. It may surprise you.

I agree. The major reason I started to play was, like some other poster, I am a self-confessed SW geek. I never wanted to play any other MMORPG until this one came out. I also know of a few people who are going to get the game now that there is space combat.

You have three types here:

1. Star Wars fans - these players will stay with the game no matter what.

2. MMORPG kiddies - these players jump from MMORPG to MMORPG, playing whatever is popular at the time. (the "WoW is gonna pwn SWG but only until EQ2 comes out" types)

3. RPG Game Lovers - this is where I fall, and usually we do check out other MMORPG's, but not to the point of ever abandoning others. At one time, I was playing SWG, EQLive, KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights, FF10. On November 15th, I may not log on to SWG, but it's a sure bet I'll play both EQ2 and SWG about the same amount of time that week.

I fall under number 1 which is why I still play this broke as..... uhmm.... anyway I tend to play games based on interests I already have. That's why I played UO because I am a die hard Ultima fan, had to quit though as the devs ruined that game as well and didn't want to taint my love of the rest of the Ultima universe. Almost what is getting close to happening here.

I played CoH for a few months. Let me say that it may be a good game but yet I returned to SWG. Why?

CoH was in a nutshell "get mission, go here, kill, comeback" all the freakin time. It gets boring quick. SWG however lets me play music, dance, explore for badges, themeparks, crafting, fish, and now JTL is comming out so I can now re-live my X-Wing Alliance Days. Turn based and Twitch in one. CoH has NOTHING on this game.

I have played several MMORPGs.

People always say stuff like this. Infact, people are constantly complaining about every game.

I don't understand what some people expect from a video game. No game will ever be bug free. No game will ever have an infinite amount of content.

SWG is a great game. I enjoy it and I plan to play it for a while.

MMORPG = same problems, different wrapper.

Classes get nerfed.
Loot gets nerfed.
People complain.
Things get rebalanced.

I played WoW beta. First 2 days it was fun but by the third day I kept thinking, "This is EQ all over again". After spending 3 years of my life on EQ and losing so many hours of sleep to camping Journeyman's boots on Drelzna (and still not getting them) I can't live through that experience again.

If EQ 2 is all about loot and camping - sorry, I'll stay here. I love JTL and this game has massive potential still. I'm not going to give up on it for a while now.

Also, everyone remember that the same people at SOE making some of the key decisions about this game are probably the same people who will make key decisions about EQ 2. So if you're unhappy with SOE, you won't find salvation in another product with their name on it.

WoW will have the same problems. They will spend a ton of time in beta fixing things, balancing things, nerfing things but when it goes live it will have the same disgruntled crowd screaming "keep nerfing", "I'm quiting", "No content!"

SWG has little to worry about... we are the only space game around worth playing, the only real starwars MMO... well there is battlefront ( Whatever )...

ULTIMA ONLINE HAS WORRIES IN MY OPPINION. I played that game for 7 years, and even thier latest content is just silly, that game is very quaint and old timey... but honestly unless they build a good 3d client they will be lucky to keep the players hey have now... I mean you can run the game on a commodore 64.

SWG has Jedi, BH, now space battles, housing, crafting, dancing, cool missions, and old friends like Jabba, han, chewie, luke, and boba...
