I had a lot of fun with the Beta, getting in fairly early - crafting, missions and ships have been fairly well designed and tweaked. Devs went from one extreme to the other and are still tweaking them.

Ship crafting will be fun. Stock up on a a LOT of Steel, Ore, Alum, Iron, Polymer and Fiberplast. There are some new resources introduced to the game that will have folks out surveying and digging for the new ship components. I like what they have done with Reverse Engineering quite a lot. What I mean is you find looted components from killing enemy ships, and if you find enough identical same level components you merge them into a 'super component'. It's tough to do, but has great results.

I had bugs in the missions, but the development team was, well, 'relentless' in tracking them down and fixing them. They were part of the daily forums on the Beta and I definitely give them kudos for 110% effort. Hopefully all remaining bugs are cleaned up before final release. Missions generally reward you with 'unlocking' the ability to learn pilot boxes. You cannot just grind up using an AFK macro. (not sure how that would work in space anyways, but what folks do with macros often amazes me lol). Once you unlock your skills, and learn them , you can use better equipment. I generally recommend picking up the ordnance skills first to be able to use more powerful equipment.

I had some crashes and lag moments even on a 3.2 ghz computer with 128 video and 2 gig memory. Generally happened with there were bugged spawns or in turning the graphics up very high. The game looks AWESOME. Just touring in space can be an adventure in itself!

Capital ships and starbases: I was a bit disappointed you are not based AT a capital ship or starbase, nor can you explore them.

Jedi in space: No you cannot hunt jedi in space, and no , jedi get no perks or rewards being in space. Nor do they lose XP or go perma overt (AFAIK).

Capital ship 'fighting zone' is really fun. You really want to be a fully equipped ace. I had some bugs with targetting sub components, hopefully thats fixed now. It was one of the coolest things ever in a MMORPG to get a wing of friends to attack a Star Destroyer or Rebel Base. Or to protect it.

Control: I found the joystick controls to be a little flaky, but it's been a while since I played and there have been a lot of tweaks. I did find mouse control to be really easy and had no trouble shooting down enemy ships. I heard their AI has improved considerably though.

Missiles: Another 'bug' in the system is when NPC's launch a lot of missiles at you, it's game over. Make sure you get familiar with counter measures. I do hope missiles get a bit of a rebalance before launch. Seemed kind of game breaking.

10 out of 10 for graphics (wow. Just wow.)

8 out of 10 for sound (more varied/space like music would have been nice. Voice overs on missions or taunts in space would have been great. However, a Tie Fighter passing close is VERY Star Warsy with it's tell tale screech!)

7 out of 10 for playability (missile unbalance and issues with my joystick bring this down)

6 out of 10 for content (you are pretty much 'stuck' into one set of missions, then after achieving Ace it's pretty much PvP)

Overall 8 out of 10 for my own personal review.

Have fun!

I did say we found a few defects..I reported it immediately to the SoruSuub people..they were very apologetic and assured me it would be taken care of

Doing some brown nosing for my imediate superior in the Inquisition I was using a highly tuned ship to haras rebel positions. They were attacking in ever increasing waves and I was frequently forced to break off an attack to do evasive action so my shields could recover.

Just as I realised I was outmatched the dog fight came into the path of two TIE bombers and we moped up. Sadly the next dog fight came into the path of two Hutt bombers one of them went for the rebels but one of them went for me. Next time I'll put boosters on the ship and get out of trouble areas.

Then I tried out a rebel pilot and found it quite diferent - TIEs usualy do not have shields but they attack in numbers and are agile. Shooting TIEs was very diferent, much less margin of error because if you shoot between the wings of an X wing you hit the shield - on a TIE, you just miss but when you do hit, it won't regenerate - I became much more precise in my shooting.

I had been fighting some TIEs and a TIE bomber got on my tail - I ignored the first missile to try and finish the ship in front but I was distracted despite myself, the second missile put out my rear sheild and I turned quickly to get my front shields on the third missile - there were two TIE bombers... Once behind the bomber it was little risk but I was vulnerable to other ships and soon the 'eject' option appeared with several componants damaged.

With only half thrust available I turned slowly to face the remaining ship and blasted it before it finished me. As I limped back to the space station 3 TIEs started an intercept course, still I got two of them before my engin was disabled.

If anything JTL is smoother than the ground game. I constantly get 30FPS.

Yeevle, please share your system specs, I have no clue what to expect with 2400ghz P4 with 2 gigs of ram and a Gforce fx 5600

You'll be perfectly fine in space. You have my machine beat in every spec and my space experience was flawless from a lag/framerate point of view.

Heck I've got an Athlon 64 3200+ with only 1 Gig of RAM and a GeForce 4 Ti4400; I don't experience any lag in JtL.

My compy crashes once in a while, but that's because I really need to reinstall Windows But I don't get any lag in Space or on the Ground with JtL.

awesome, the only thing I was worried about was the lag

Normally I would not bother writing this but the Devs have requested stories from beta testers. Because I respect their dedication and work ethic such as pushing out patches on weekends (sat and sun) and working 24hrs a day (asommers deserves serious overtime pay) I'll share my best memory.

I was out on patrol attempting to help foster relations between Nym's forces and the Rebel cause as per my trainer Viopa's request. "Be careful out there sweetie" she said. But things had not gone well. The Cosair raiders managed to call reinforcements and the target managed to get away having reinitialized it's disabled engines then hyperspacing.

On the way back to the space stationI picked up enemy activity on my starbord side. Flashes of laser cannon fire could be seen on the horizon just past the asteroid field. I moved in closer to investigate.

Surprisinglythe combat music from "The Empire Strikes Back" came on blaring in my speakers from Han Solo's asteroid chase dodging and weaving the asteroids to escape the TIE fighters.

Suddenly I heara TIE overpass as my front shields take a hit. MARK III TIE fighter had had me targeted. Within seconds I retreated into the recesses of the asteroid field. The TIE followed close behind attempting to gain a clear lock but was unable to because the asteroids were hindering it's laser fire and maneuverability. My mind in plenary exultation echoed Han Solo's famous words "NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS!"

Swirling and weaving aroundin spacethe gamplay transformed itself into my own personal odyssey. Forone shining moment I WAS PART of that incredible Star Wars saga. No, I would never take part in an attack on the Death Star. My actions would never significantly impact the galactic civil war one way or another but for that solitary instantI created my own niche in that gigantic legend.

My y-wing FIRETALON 724 let loose anIFFblast to scramble it's sensors and with a final pass I was able to meet the TIE head on and blast it into space dust.

I returned to the outer edge of the field and invited... lured if you will, more Imperial TIE fighters to their deaths. One time I limped away barely surviving but all in all it was the best night I ever had in Beta. That nightI felt like I was in the movies.

No for some picture glory:

Chillin in my YT
The workhorse
From the inside
Turret view
Loyal companion
And the ship management screen

Oh... and for those who're curios about the furniture in the YT-1300 picture. At first the ship came prefurnished and while the furniture was very cool it wasn't cool that you couldn't move it and was stuck with it. So the Devs listened to the community and removed the furniture. Now, this was very neat stuff and there's a lot of us who're hoping that it'll be added back in as craftable furnitures by architects. Keep your fingers crossed.

What do you think about that TH?

Really there were way too many good JTL beta stories to tell them all. To put it plain and simple... JTL is an amazing game. It offers something I have yet to see another MMORPG offer. Dispite the doomsdayers saying JTL isnt ready and all that... it really is going to be ready, and totally amazing at launch.

As of now my best time in JTL was going to Deep space in a rebel Nova cruiser with 6 people on board. It was amazing... till a Tie agressor blew us up anyway. The best part was when we sprung a plasma leak... and the pilot walked back to fix it and got set on fire and incapped. Or possible when the pilot was screaming for someone to get in the turrets and we were all too busy playing with a chance cube in our little lounge we set up. As you can guess that is about the time we died .

Going up in a MP ship is an experience unlike any I have ever had in a MMORGP before. It trueky was fun.

I actually had a WONDERFUL experince last night. I have a pretty good Xwing with some good Mark IV parts (and some looted ones) so I went around to a few sectors after going overt. I found a few other overts and blew 'em away. Some were good fights, some didn't know what they were doing. But it was still quite a rush to home in on another PvP'r. I don't PvP on the ground much and I have to say that it was pretty sweet in space.

After that I went to Kessle to see if there were any high level people there I could take on. Unfourtnatly the "pvp only" zone was PVE only. But still, 2 or 3 of us ganged up on a few lev 5 Oppressors and the like.... it was a hoot!

All I can tell the folks who are just starting out is that sometimes it may seem like a grind, but it gets more and more fun as you progress
