And??

And what???

A swords and sorcerey MMO with great customer service (played the beta, really responsive and helpful)sure beats the hell out of SWG in it's horrid state right now. Says you. Customer service hereis a mockery. Get a new video card to clear Jedi visibility. Yeah, I'll get right on that.

I don't want to play that kind of game. I want to be in space. I want to play Star Wars, not Dorks & Dragons.

PlayXvT. Much better SWflight sim. No lag, Ha. no bugs Ha , no whiners and hardly any players. I am an XvT, BoP and XWA veteran. Those were really fun games. However, they are ancient and practically obsolete. (I'm not sure they'll even run on my new computer.) Are you trying to tell me there is customer service for those games? They're DEAD. They weren't perfect games, however. Lots of things you couldn't do in those games. Plenty of bugs.

Plus, I want to play something NEW. AndI want a ground game, too. I want to be able to get out of the ship and do stuff with an avatar. Can't do that in XvT. You can't even walk around inside a multiplayer ship in XWA (which, for the record, had onlyTWO multiplayer ships _ the YT-1300 and YT-2000 _ you could fly before that guy released his web patch).

You want to play Star Wars, yet you have probably picked up a sword or hammer or some other melee weapon. Actually, no I haven't. I use only ranged weapons and find it to be lots of fun. (Is it really that different than bow-and-arrow?) But even if I had picked up one, what are you saying? Are you saying they don't have swords and sticks in the future? We live in a time now where people still use swords and sticks in a fight. Not that it's a great idea. If you had comp. armor, though, I could see it as an option. Oooh look, a nightstick!

Because SWG is about Star Wars, they can't just make up everything out of whole cloth like you could with a game not based on an established canon. This means that stuff takes time to produce and might need several revisions to get right. People will complain if a-wings are too slow or tie interceptors are too fast. (Witness the whole ties-don't-have-hyperdrives-or-shields debate) In WoW, you can make a Level 20 Booger-slinging Siege Machine as powerful as you want because it's just new, made-up stuff.

There is a complete book set chronicling the history of Warcraft and the world, Azeroth. That's all well and good, but there is a complete set of MOVIES chronicling Star Wars. Not to mention the entire frickin' library of books you can find on the franchise, which has been around nearly 30 years. Not to mention the vast number of comics, games and other forms of media that are part of the Star Wars empire. I'm sure there are plenty of fantasy dorks out there that would get pissed if the developers didn't follow the storyline at least somewhat. Maybe, but it pales in comparison to the legion of Star Wars fans that are continually griping about continuity. Hell, with as much time as Blizzard took to perfect this game, I wouldn't be suprised in the least that WoW follows the storyline of it's books and it'sprevious RTS games (canon)more than SWG follows the Old Trilogy timeline right now.

I'm sticking with SWG. If you want to slay goblins and orcs, drink ale and cast spells from your magic unicorn, go get busy, brother.

I'm sticking with SWG too, but for the meantime, I'm going to play a game that has less bugs in it's beta stage than SWG has in 1 year of live, even if it's fairy magical mumbo jumbo. Like I said, enjoy your mumbo jumbo. See you down at the renaissance fair.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna blow up some Imperial space stations.

You seem to mention JTL alot. This is the JTL discussion forum. While I do/did have a decent amount of fun the time I played it, how do you feel about the ground game?? I enjoy it, for the most part. People constantly complain about one profession or another being too uber or being nerfed. I've heard this about other MMOs as well. (My brother is into EQ).

I think part of this is the nature of the beast. Many of those who buy these games are whiny adolescents. The devs of MMOs know they're going to get a lot of crap from zit-faced kids without prom dates. Some of the complaints are more constructive than others. I have offered some myself.

My biggest complaint has to do with the GCW. There is not enough encouragement for people to participate in it. The perks you get from farming FP often seem to not be worth the trouble. Otherwise, I have a lot of fun playing the ground game.

SWG is not perfect. There are lots of things I would like to add. Right now in JTL, we have no capital ships or space stations. We have a limited number of ships (especially multiplayer ones). I don't understand why there isn't a certain set of ships that everyone can fly (the YT-1300, for example, should be available to all factions, imho).

If SOE doesn't add more content, especially in JTL, over the coming year, I may consider leaving the game (though I have faith they will come through). I just don't see myself battling ice giants and grouping with elves. Too deep into the Dork Forest for me.

Y'know, the one they originally released?

I want this game to succeed, I truly do. I am a Star Wars fan first and foremost. But, I am finding it harder and harder to log in every day. I'm not quite done with Fencer yet. I look at what I have to do, and I get turned off instantly..

  • Get buffed.

  • Go to Dant/Dath.

  • Take Hurrton/Baz Nitch missions until I puke.

As far as WoW goes...it dosen't even feel like a grind. It's fun, yet I'm gaining levels. What a shocker, huh? I don't have to gain carpel tunnel syndrome just to be able to get further with my character.

Anyway, to make a long rant short, SWG has soooo much potentinal, and it's not being realized yet. SOE has the greatest universe/timeline in the world to take from, yet they are bastardizing the hell out of it.

I know I'll probably get flamed and one starred for this, but you asked, soI answered.Everyone else, go ahead and do your worst. I wouldn't expect anything less from the general populus of these forums anyway.

You're upset that you have to group, in an MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game?

And yes, it sucks to get a mission failure after a lot of work. Hate to break it to you though, but this isn't just somethingspecific toSWG, nor it is something specific to MMO's, nor to any type of game. And that's good. Where would the fun be if there was no risk?

The best times you will ever have in any game is when you go up against all odds, you put everything on the table, where you have everything to lose, and...you win. Your hard work pays off. I played EQ for 3.5 years and there was nothing suckier than waiting a week for a boss mob to spawn, then spending 3-5 hours getting every gathered, buffed, clearing, rebuffing, and then fighting the mob and losing, then regrouping, doing it all over again, fighting the mob again, and losing, over and over. I've done it for 10 hours before. Y'know what though? There has neverbeen any feeling quite so good as when you finally kill that thing, whether it be the first time or the 21st.

Same goes for real life. In hockey (god bless) each and every player puts their body on the line for 82 games every year, just to make the playoffs. Then they put their body and anything else they can on the line to make it to just one game, that one game, at the end of the season. When they lose yeah, it sucks, but when they win its all the more sweeter.

SWG doesn't have ENOUGH of this in my opinion. It needs some more big-encounters that take hours to truly do and there's a huge amount of risk.

Play XvT? LMAO, that game is 8 years old, can you still stand the graphics? Plus, you'll have a hard time just trying to get it to run on your modern computer. I don't even play XWA these days, too many hardware/software compatibilty issues. Lucas Arts is smart not to make another new Xwing/TIE Fighter singleplayer focusedgame, or else, this game will die.
