They've already announced that the space piloting skills will come from a separate pool (cool choice!). Check out the IGN boards ~ Kaessa had a really good interview at E3 with Haydn.

The IGN video interview with Hayden Blackmon says that it will be a starting profession, I.E. you will have to surrender current skills in order to pick up a pilot profession (if you, like many people, are out of skill points). This is not a cool choice...it is a very, very bad one.

I don't think its a bad decision. Not everyone in the Star wars Universe is a Pilot, so you have to make a choice....do I want to be a pilot or a elite ground soldier....sounds fair and realistic to me.

I hope they get the craft balance right this time. 4 of the 5 best fighters in XWA were
imperial fighters. Especially the craft cost was totally wrong. An X-Wing costs 100 points there
a Gunboat 90 and a Tie-Defender 130. The X-Wing is a pretty average craft. Both the gunboat and
and of course the Tie-Defender are better crafts.

i wouldnt argue that the gunboat was better than the xwing, its weapons were more flexible, but the xwing could fly circles around the gunboat. it was like driving a...boat...

now the TIE/D was crazy good, super fast/flexible/manueverable. But since we can modify the ships in lightspeed im thinkin that the 'factory production' models will be in the minority and customizations will introduce a lot of variance. Plus theyve also designed a bunch of ships not seen before in any game/book/movie.

I'm personaly wondering about Jedi Starfighters. It is doubtful that they will add those, but it would be kinda cool for jedi to have those fighters. If these are included there should be two versions of it, one for the light and one for the dark. There is also the question of certain force powers that i have read about in the books, such as the jedi mind meld, in which a jedi becomes sencronized with his wingmates to improve their piloting. There is also jedi battle meditation were a jedi influences the battle to his/her purpose. This one is very unlikely. For those of you wondering im not a Jedi....yet(muhahahahahahahahahahahaha)

The Gunboat is more manuverable than the X-Wing in the games.
The Gunboat has twice the shielding , twice the warhead load, about 50% more cannon fire power , 40% more armor , accerlerate 25 % faster and is a bit more manuverable (4%). The X-Wings only has a 11% speed advantage over the Gunboat.

Everyone please remember: These will be crafted ships. That means some will be better than others, even in the same class of ship. Your TIE fighter may get wasted by an exceptionally well made X-Wing, especially if it's piloted by someone with good twitch skills.

Thank you for reintroducing decay!!!
I like a complex, immersive world simulation, full of possibilities, challenges and roleplay.
I want a player driven, crafting-based economy.

The economy's on most servers are already ruined. This system is not going to help. SOE is going to be in for a lot of complaints when they sell their customers an expansion pack that they can not fully use because they will not be able to afford to buy a ship in game.

Doing missions fora month straight just to own a ship is BS. If they do not come up with something extrordinary to control greed the space expansion will be the downfall of the game in the long term. The casual gamer will not have the time to do all the required missions in order to own a ship and enjoy the game.

Contrary to popular belief power gamers and hardcore online gamers are in the minority in SWG, most players are Star Wars fans playing their first online game so this could kill the player base for SOE.

if i am not mistaken, the notes say that every player will start with a small basic figther. then you can buy or make a better one.

Hec.. You are correct. Players who buy expansion will receive a basic ship. Of course this could all change but I doubt it on this one. From a marketing viewpoint why would you sell a game with space combat and not provide some kind of starting ship....

Someone mentioned something about an IGN video and their comments on skills for Piloting. That info. from IGN if they reported it the way I think they did has changed. Last I heard:

Rebel, Neutral, and Imp Pilots will receive will receive seperate skill points and you do not have to sacrifice any of your current skill points. The only exception is Shipwright. Of course all of this can change as Dev. dictate.

You alsoraised a valid point ,Hec, on the economy. In alot of player's mind it is all about greed and maybe control. Greed for sure in my opinion. When you have players selling armor and ground vehicles for 1-3 million credits it makes you wonder. There are players running around in with double digit million credit numbersand some with 3 digits like 100 million+. You alsodont have to be a rocket science to figure out that you cant make that kind of money doing missions unless its 24/7. I earned most of mycredits or I should say I used to earn it by selling resources wholesale to one contact and yes I earned millions ,not double digit though but close,. So now Im holding on to every credit I have for expansion because I think and feel that crafters will charge outlandish prices even for a half way decent ship. If you cant beat em join em..make your own ship maybe:-)

From previous post -On groundvehicles going for 1-3 million I was referring to the AV vehicles not your regular run of the mill Swoop or Speeders.

Good point and i agree. I made my money my self selling meat to MDs. But lucky for me, my guild is looking into it by preparing tons of possible resources that will be use to make ships and we have someone getting tons of xp to get him ready to be our official shipbuilder. I know we are speculating a lot, but we are trying our best. My point is that we will try to provide good quality ships for very little cost to all our member that get the expansion. I can imagine every guld doing this.
