Thread: So this is what we all waited for?

Just don't be too disappointed when you get to Tier 3 and can no longer advance with a sizable group of flyers with you. Expect to die and die often. Skill has nothing to do with it at all. I was gated at 3-1 for 16 days before beta ended. Unavoidable neverending missile runs from the baddies, then turrets, then someone elses missions that you cannot attack but will certainly attack you.
Hmm that's odd. I had no problems whatsoever with Tier 3, all 3 times I went through it. (Damn player wipes)

Did you not play the last few days? Most of that was fixed. Missiles are not near as hard-hitting as they were, the turreting ended, and the mission spawns didn't attack me.

While that is partially true, as a beta tester who has seen the high level stuff of the pilot profession, I can say he's not that far off base. Yeah your ship gets a bit faster at higher levels but still not fast as you expect, on top of that the combat is always slow b/c you can't fight at high speeds without major detriments; even in ships like the Awing that have good control at high speed you can't simply b/c the enemy ships are confined to a small area in which they spawn and if you fly at a higher speed you'll simply just keep flying past them, so essentially you'll end up doing "fly by" strikes which just takes longer, easier to just slow down and stay behind them, so combat is always going to be slow, the basic design of the system forces it. There are only a few missions where it is advantageous to go fast in combat, but even then it's just temporary to gain position, you still need to slow down once you circle your targets. Then on top of that, they have all this rediculous mass stuff that really makes no sense. I mean think about it, these ships are produced, first of all they should come with stock equipment, but beyond that who produces a ship that can't hold the weapons that are built for it? If they had to have the mass things, it should only come into effect when you start equipping looted parts, then it's plausible that the mass isn't right since you're adapting technology not specifically designed for teh ship. But x-wings were produced by Incom, not only did it come with parts but it wouldn't come with parts that were too heavy or too power consuming to be used, that's just stupid. It's like buying a car with no engine, or saying hey, I need an engine for a Honda Accord, then the engine they build you is too heavy to run the car w/o removing something else, that's just stupid and makes no sense. If someone is building you something from scratch, they would obviously build it to specifically fit your ship, they don't just build some generic thing and say, "hey, hope that fits for ya." That's why I say their whole system is flawed on the base level. Same with the power consumption and all that, constructed parts should work b/c they'd be designed to do such, all that stuff where you have to pick and choose should only apply with looted stuff, at least then it'd make sense. This implementation they have is either b/c they're dumb or lazy, take your pick.I could go on, but really there's no point as I don't plan on getting this expansion, I'll be cancelling my account at the end of my cycle and maybe I'll come back when they finish the GCW upgrade when they offer me the free 10 days I know they'll offer.
Um no offense but did you do duty missions at Tier 3 and 4? They payed a LOT better than the duty missions at Tier 1 and 2.
Can't fight at high speed in an A-Wing? Are you crazy? I fought at speed in my A-Wing all the time. Did it in my Interceptor as an Imp too. Only ships I didn't like in beta were the kimogillas (yuck). By the way, dogfighting is ALWAYS slower than transit speed, even in Real life. The minute you open up with guns you're gonna slow down to be able to keep your crosshairs on the guy. (ask ANY fighter pilot if he engages the enemy in dogfighting at MACH 5) Did you ever engage in PVP in beta? It rocked!
As to ships coming with stock gear? I agree... getting the initial schematic should come with some stock equipment (like an engine!!!!) but I can understand why they didn't do it that way.

I didn't say you couldn't, I said you couldn't w/o suffering for it, I was referring to PvE though, in PvP yeah the ships like inteceptor and Awing are much more useful, but that's only for a few people and in space it's really only a factor once you're master anyway, who wants to PvP in a z95. I used the Awing for a while and I did like it, except the 1 weapon thing, but other than that it was nimble, but no matter what ship you fly you can't outrun the NPC's and the only reason I can think of for needing to be nimble at high speeds in PvE is to dodge missles, which I found to be dang near impossible to do, it seems like enemy ships don't have the same requirements to achieve a lock as you, I could be spinning, looping, and rolling and they'd still missle lock me. In dogfights with NPC's it's hardly necessary to do any fancy flying you're just follwoing they're flight pattern, which is fairly easy to do and you do that at rougly 350-450 speed, anything past that or below that is either too fast or too slow to keep a good follow, at least for me.
I dunno, just my feel of the whole thing anyway, I also don't like that none of the ships fill their rolls, I mean take the Awing, now read the text the devs supplied on the "ships" page about what type of fighter the Awing was, that's their own description from Star Wars lore. Now look at the Awing in-game and you tell me does that even seem to match what they themselves have written up? It doesn't to me, Awing was supposed to be fast and nimble, but weak, yet there's no shield limitations on the Awing, it's just as strong as any other ship, so basically it gets it's speed and nimbleness yet it doesn't suffer from the detriment it was supposed to be known for, which was weak shields and hard up keep.

After reading the initial post here I can only make one comment. If you hate the game so much why not let your account expire. The old Tie fighter and X-Wing games are still available and have not changed. I have played this game since day 2, and I play now for the same reason I played then. I enjoy the game. With all due respects, Broog, you are tormenting yourself needlessly. Maybe you have just outgrown the game, or maybe you are not big enough for the game, which ever it is, you should quit.
Great post!
You guys crack me up. I am not sure why you waste your time making senseless posts showing the boundless depth of your ignorance.
I have also played the game since day 2. I ground through 27 professions before unlocking my Jedi. I got my main character back to what I wanted (armorsmith/rifleman), I did the armor merchant thing and made about 90 million credits pretty easily.
For the most part I do not enjoy the game. I actually enjoyed grinding out Jedi more than playing Jedi (after the first couple weeks the lightsaber sound got dull, until the revamp then it was cool for another week) because I was aiming towards something. After that... well... there is nothing left for me in the game. There is no goal.
I am not needlessly tormenting myself. I basically stopped playing for 2-3 months, logging in maybe twice to throw some maintentance into a few buildings. I paid my 6-month subscription solely because I wanted to keep my account active in anticipation of JTL. Yes I could have dropped to a monthly fee or canceled and come back but the $77 doesn't mean all that much to me.
So I was a little heated during my original post because I kept the game solely because I had high expectations for JTL (the fact that its a twitch game and not skill based is definitely the right way to go, and its why I stayed). Upon getting JTL I was sorely disappointed that I had to still be on the ground. I detest the ground game. It was never good, and it never will be. For me personally it is worse because my PC is a bit outdated (will be buying a new one shortly, more for EQ2 than for SWG but that is another story). This weekend when they patched and supposedly cut down load times by "several seconds" they actually screwed something up, and it takes me now, fresh off booting up my system, maybe 4-5 minutes just to load into the game. In fact the login screen scans and analyzes tons of files now which it did not do last week, and it does it every time I log in (at least yesterday it did) so it maybe took me 6-7 minutes to load into the game. My zone load is a minute to 2 minutes. My first space load is 1-2 minutes. I am ok in space, but on the ground everything lags to hell.
I am glad things get better down the road and I am glad I got some constructive replies here. I have my Y-Wing but didnt get a chance to play with it this weekend. I did fly around a little in it and it seems a bit faster and now that I completed that first duty mission (which was a lot of fun) I am looking forward to playing tonight before the MNF game. I plan to stick with it until I hit Master Pilot, possibly I will grind through Shipwright so I can see what its like to customize components and play with that. After that I will probably cancel but you never know.
But to make a comment saying I should just quit serves no purpose. Does it help you if I quit? Its interesting when I started this thread (admittedly a little upset when I did) I figured I would get a couple flames and maybe a handful of posts agreeing or disagreeing with some comments about the expansion. I never thought it would turn into a 40+ post thread lol. But I am glad it did because I find it interesting to read other people's perspectives of the expansion and share in their experiences, specifically to those who participated in the Beta.
But the whole "just quit" thing is just silly. I guess I should be glad you bump the thread with your mindless smattering of keys though. So um... thanks?
