Thread: Jedi space *notice the singular* skill
Mse wrote:
I would think that jedi deserve one space skill to make space just a little more similar to the movies. Nothing too fancy. My idea is that if a jedi is ace pilot they recieve the piloting skill "Missle Prowess". Once you activate this skill, you use the force and get an automatic lock-on onto the next ship youfire your weapons or a missle atuntil that ship is destroyed. This idea is loosely based on Luke destroying the Death Star. This ability will only be usuable once every 3 hours. Please no flame posts, just an idea.

I have no problem with people who use the JSF, but people who fly it because it "**edit** PWNZOR J00!!!!!!!!!!11" are the ones I take issue with.
Basicaly I don't care what you fly as long as you don't go pokeing around in my heavy X-Wing I will not go messing with your JSF, but in a sproting contest I would like to see those two and a few others left at home honestly. (my first PvP event was definatly an eye opener.)
The Advanced X-Wing is balanced VERY nicely by the TIE Advanced, Heavy TIE, Vaksai, and Heavy Scyk. Believe me, I'm damned good with my X-Wing, even with a Level 10 engine with low 80's YPR and Engine Overload 4, those ships are a threat in the turns.More mass is one thing, but its still an X-Wing, with all the relative maneuvering baggage that goes with it. We're still easier to hit, we're still not the turning machines they are.
I do agree, the Advanced X-Wing could use some weight trimmed off, and a decent chunk at that, to around 130-150k, but its not the dominator you believe it to be in PvP. That's still a small ship's domain, which is why I keep the A-Wing set up and ready to roll on short notice. In PvE, these ships are extremely good, but not perfect. There are duty missions I cannot complete solo in an Advanced X-Wing, so again, while its a little too powerful for what its trying to be, its not the god machine everyone accuses it of being.
PvP is really in two tiers now, the original JTLs and the new heavies against each other. There's some crossover for pilots who are exceptionally talented or exceptionally good with RE luck, but the bar is definitely higher when you deal with an array of ships that give you almost everything you want. If the RG TIE were working properly, 90% of the issues would evaporate and the Imperials would have an awesome Tier 4 heavy to match the Advanced X and the Vaksai.
The Bel and Actis are a completely different problem. They are both smaller than an A-Wing, more agile, yet have the mass approaching that of a heavy starter. No matter what you throw them at, they overmatch it. They're just too much ship for too little effort in attaining them.
First Janu I would like to say that I have come to respect your oppinion as a vetran pilot.
Second, maybe I was a little unclear... I would rather leave my Adv. X-Wing at home because as time goes on I am realy starting to dig my A-Wing for PvP (sure it isn't as powerful but it tends to survive longer), also considering all the whining the Adv. X-Wing causes I don't realy want the drama of seeing one at a PvP event (granted, it is on my side and this may be solved by a RGI fix) but otherwise I love the ship in PvE. (the mass issue is debatable but you are probibly right in the long run.)
Allow me to make another point clear I am talking about events, not random encounters... you can fly what ever you like in DS or overt.
P.S. I do agree that the ship is balanced, but there are many on Lowca who don't see it that way, or do not want to see it that way (people have complained about just about every ship actualy)... and if putting my Adv. X-Wing away for PvP gets the imperials to come play I will make that sacrifice.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'd personally let'em whine. Even better, if you have a killer engine, stick it in a Y-Wing Longprobe. With high YPR and a little more cutback on the throttle, you can REALLY humiliate the whiners.
I have been an Ace for a long, long time. And all I use these days is a highly customized JSF I have put over 2,000,000 credits of customization so far into that fighter, I don't fly it because its an 'uber' fighter I fly it because it handles well, and its sleek. Imperials don't have many fighters that can claim both of those besides the TIE Interceptor (sorry folks I don't much care for the Opressor).
The Jedi Starfighter is a good ship, mass aside if your willing to cut a few corners and work with it, as for PVPa fair fight? Nothing is going to be fair when you can customize your ships to the level you can in this game. Every ship no matter what it is will always be a completley different animal. You of course have the base statistics but that will only carry you so far. The only reason the JSF is being classified as "unfair" is because it has JEDI in the name.
And for the record a '67 Ford Mustang is far superior to the '06 models as far as power goes. So to say old is inferior isnt -always- true.
Anyways thats my $.02

You do touch on the main objection here in your own way... If you can fly the JSF whay fly anything else?
Does that sound familiar?
How 'bout
If you can use a 1500 point mind fire why use anything else?
or
If you can have comp. armor why have anything else?
What the JSF (excuse me ETA-2 Actis interceptor) kills about the game is diversity... it can keep the mass it can keep the weapon slots but the turning values that make a decent engine great and a good engine a 6 month RE project wildly unbalance it.
That said fly waht ever you want in PvE... but accept that you may not be welcome at someone elses PvP event in it.
By the way 2 mill on a whole ship? I spent twice that and a month looting on my engine.
I do fly an Advanced X-Wing in PvE content... I would not think of trying to use it in PvP that would be suicide... but I might as well get it out there... because someone is likely to try and attack me on that front at some point.
Anyone who flys PvP in an ETA-2, with knoledge of it's overwelming advantage just to win... is not likely to earn the respect of his fellow pilots... if you can live with that fine but I can't.
Again owning and enjoying an ETA-2 is not a sin... but understand what it is please.

Correct, It works like the word moose. You, for singular, can say "Look, a moose!" For plural, "Look at all those moose!" Same concept for jedi.

lol "let's make it more like the movies!"
nevermind the fact that if the game were more like the movies, the OP would not have a jedi toon.
let's also bring back permadeath (more like the movies) implement blue glowies (more like the movies) eradicate the jedi (more like the movies) and have an actual GCW.
(more like the movies).
oh, hell ya'....
and to the idea of giving jedi ANY advantage in space; No F'in way!!!

Well, I'd like to reply to this as one of the folks that called for removal of the Heavy-X, and a couple other ROTW ships. I don't intend this to be a flame, or insulting to either of you, just my thoughts. I resent the "whiner" label being attached. Telling the Imperial side that they can't fly anything ROTW except the heavy TIE (a POS), and all the while flying around in ARC's, heavy-x's, vaksai's, heavy scyks, heavy Z's, and whatever else except the b-22, and jsf, is B.S., plain and simple. I may eat crow on this, but I for one think the RGI is working as intended. But by golly, it sure as hell won't even be considered for even an open, anything goes tournament. This rule wasn't made because some one guy wanted it this way, it was made because of the huge uproar that would be heard if this ship was allowed. I'd go out on a limb and say 80% of these guys have never even flown against one. Some people, (no implications on you guys), seem to love space PvP as long as they can fly what they want, and limit everyone else's options. I think that's a crock. What the hell is the big deal about flying a JTL ship anyway? And you know what, if your a Freelance pilot, maybe you should have picked a pilot faction that was meant to pvp, because Freelancer wasn't. I'm sorry if I sound like an ass, I don't intend it that way. I'm just tired of being the bad guy, when people seem to have a smallpox like phobia about learning a little mass management, or maybe learningnot toget hit much.
Worst idea since the "Paralyze should not break on damage" topic.
Absolutely ridiculous.
