I dont really mind it being slow, but it really shouldnt be. Its based on Landos yacht from the books
Uh, other way around dood, lando's yacht is based on the SS-3000, its like comparing the falcon to the yt-1300, both the Lady Luck and Millenium Falcon have been heavily modified, so dont expect them to be anywhere near as similar in speed and manueverablity to their stock counterparts.

... And also, thanks to the ship I never have to buy a travel ticket to travel from planet to planet ever again. The fact it has a hyperdrive makes it more than worth it for me. I know Lando's ship in the books is fast and powerful, but he upgraded the heck out of it, so thats why. But yeah, I'm happy with the ship. Its my house in the sky and my "car". No longer do i have to spend money to go to Dant.
HOWEVER, once you get a feel for how long it takes to actually get from planet to planet in the yacht you may go back to using the starports. That, I think is at the heart of the original posters message. Once the newness wears off I'll be more than happy to pay the starport fairs to get to where I need to be faster.
Furthermore in all honesty I don't see it as being too practical as a "house" in space either. Just think if you need something fast, you have to got to the starport, the one your ships parked at, load into space, get your stuff, then load back onto the planet. Everything being equal I'd have been to my house and half way to a destination by the time you loaded back from space.
But having said all that I am pretty excited about seeing mine, still I don't think I'll be spending any more time in it than I do in my house outside of Mos Eisley. I am pretty disappointed at the news that it's so slow, I too was looking forward to what I thought would be near instant planet hops.
I do understand and respect the "party barge" point of view, still I'd have prefered something cool and usful instead of just cool.

Correct me if I'm wrong here folks, I haven't received my copy yet
In beta, you could use the "travel" option at starports to travel to any other starport using your own ship, much like you would using the shuttles now, except there is no wait time. Naboo to Dath? Boom, you are there (on the planet, just like now). You CAN however, launch to space and hyperspace the the planet's system (initiating landing at the space station). Takes a lot longer, but is much more roleplayee

The only thing that would make this ship better is if your friends could dock and lauch from your yacht. "Floating Party Pimp House! You know where to find me!"

While I think the original poster's additude is wrong, I do have to admit he has a valid point.
I did love my yacht on beta. Eventhough it was slow it still serves a purpose. But the speed is an issue.
Where he sees only negativity I see an opprotunity. How about a nice option to replace the engine and at the sametime add a money sink. Put up NPCs in cities that sell 2000 pull engines. Everytime you go into space on it, the engine decays. The engines wouldnt be able to be used in other craft. Just the yacht. If the engine decays down to nothing your stuck with the original "back up" til you get a new one installed. A price range of 10k credits to 50k credits with engine speeds from 39.0 to 49.0. This would make them move a little faster but not be so fast they become a huge problem.
And the money sink, Hey! We definately need more of those.
Just thought of something else. How about a little content added as well? When you go to the NPC you have to do a small quest based on your profession before you can purchase one. Nothing huge. Destroy missions for combatants, crafting for artisans, etc.
Plus could make the 39.0 to 44.0 the only ones buyable but you could loot, in space and on the ground faster engines, up to 49.0.

In beta, I kind of liked the yacht. There were tons of people that gathered a bunch of people off the street and had parties on their yachts. Shoot the bull, take in the sights, listen to music, etc. Good times. One of the first things I'm going to do when I get JTL installed is look for one of those parties and recreate those experiences in the live game.
I doubt that I'll use my own yacht very much. I might not even bother to claim it, since I probably won't be throwing many, if any of those parties, but the concept does have merit. In beta, just about everyone on those trips had a great time.

I really love the idea of the ship. Its a great idea, marvelously designed. Its the best way to take advantage of the graphics and artwork in space.
The only problem i have is the lot useage. I am a crafter, and i think i can speak for the whole community saying this shafts us all. Each lot is precious. At any given moment in time all 10 of mine, plus the 10 of my alt are totaly full. I wish i could use this ship, the problem i have is i cant afford to permanently loose another lot to this ship. Given this is a special item, and kind of bends the rules of housing storage and vehicular movement. I Plead either to raise the storage capacity to 100 or so, or eliminate the lot usage. otherwords, its a taunting pain in the butt.

If i remember right, in the end of beta they changed the lot usage. So if u dont put any items in it, you will not loose 1 lot, just when you drop something in it.
