in one on one engagements, the smaller faster more maneuvreable fighter is the more likely victor. large bomber craft are useful in large engagements, like 20 vs 20. why would anyone bring a bomber to attacka fighter. that's like... being stupid.

I'm not suggesting you take a bomber to a fighter battle. 0_o

I'm suggesting defensive hardware should be boosted to two or three times it's current level 10 max value, but with a more exponential growth meaning that boost effects mostly the heavier ships so that they have the capability to fullfil the space combat roles they are supposed to fullfill in a larger battle. A heavy fighter or gunship is laughable if it dies in 2 or 3 shots from a light fighter.

The shields and armour combined came to about 1000 protection while the crafted guns max damage was merely 250. Ships could not be equipped with more than 2 guns. I chose to fly my kihraxz.

We used one of those circular space stations as our dueling platform.

First fight I got pitched against a guy in a Kimo, needless to say my speed and manoverability saw me to being the victor, it took about a dozen or so hits, but it was fun.

Second fight I got pitched against a guy in a TIE Advanced. So I was looking at someone with bigger ship thats just as fast and manoverable packing twice the firepower ... he uses an engine override and suddenly i'm the slower and not so manoverable ship and outgunned and so i know I have a hard fight coming. I quickly find out that getting him in my gunsights is damn near impossible. So I go evasive ... that station has lots of tight spaces to fly through. I lost in the end ... but not before making him work extremely hard for his victory.

I enjoyed that far more than any other space pvp fight i've had before.

Why would you choose to use components that you are told to use in order to fight? Espeicially where everyone else is using the same thing. I find doing that takes away the variability between players. And you'd have to pay me mucho credits just to get me to think about taking off the components I have on my ships to use with the ones you guys wanted. I have my ships set up to be competative in space pvp. It's taken me months to get it that way. And I'd be damm pissed if I was told I could not use them.

And why the hell would you use a 250 max damage gun? You said it took 12 hits to bring the kimo down. Well congrats. You guysjust made space pvp into the ground game. Space should never be like the ground game in any way shape or form. If I die in one hit, I die in one it. Sometimes it will take 2-5 hits to bring me down. Sometimes I kill in one hit, some times I kill in 2-5 hits. It depends on the ship and hte person.

The only time I use low lvl weapons on my ships is when i'm training other pilots in my guild. But that's it. If i'm pvp'ing my goal is to a) Not get hit, at all costs. b) shoot down my opponent in any way shape or form. I'd be dammed if i'll fly in a jtl where it takes over 10 hits just to bring down one little fighter.

But hey, everyone to there own. If you guys want to use low lvl blasters, go right ahead. But don't expect me to follow along if we meet in space. lol My job is to kill the enemy. It basically comes down to this. Red=dead.

xTekx, I believe you totally missed his point. As far as tournaments go, there are typically rules. In this particular one, if you chose to participate, your ship was your choice, but your components were the choice of the judges. If you would not want to participate in that that's your choice. I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that the pilots involved probably had a very good time with it - 'it' being space-based combat created wholely by players, rather than relying on the game to lead you around by the nose.

Tournament or not I my point still stands. If you were playing in a baseball game would you want to be told you couldn't use your 34" bat because the max length on bats was 30" for the tournament? Yes it is a tournament where rules apply, but when you set up your ship to be viable in pvp and can't use those parts, what good does it do you? If ppl are scared to go overt and the only way they can pvp in space is by dueling in tournaments with limited weapons then so be it. They can do that. That's their choice. I just find it a tad but sillly to limit yourself.

And the biggest problem I see with the tournament he was in is the fact that he had to use a 250 max damage blaster. And that it took 12 hits to take down a Kimo. That in itself is wrong right there. 12 hits? Makes me want to puke. Can we say cirle flying? Because that's all it is. I don't even think 250 damage would even penetrate my shields.

Your point is moot, in my opinion, because you are trying to compare the whole space-based economy, loot, and combat systems to a small, controlled tournament experiment.

This thread was started by someone who would prefer a longer PvP encounter than most current ones, and the post you blasted was one showing how a controlled PvP tournament with a longer PvP encounter was enjoyed by those who participated.

Please get off your high horse and make an attempt to understand other people's opinions before you decide to flame.

Read the first line of Grim's post again. It was an RP event/ dualing comp. These guys aren't running around everyday on patrol like that.

I think you are still thinking in terms of ground PVP comps where pretty much anything goes in order to see who the BMOC is (although even those are regulated.. No CMs, No jedi..and so on). But in an RP event you tone things down a bit to make it more Star Warsy. You strap on the faction armor even though it is crap, you equip faction weapons even though they only have a max damage of 100. Those are just the props. For example...on Shadowfire if we are doing a space RP event we will only use period craft. That means Y-Wings, X-Wings, Z-95s, TIE fighters, TIE/Ln fighters, TIE Bombers, and squadron commanders get a TIE Advanced. That's it. Then we limit the level of gear we have based on the gear of the time (we know what gear to use because we are geeks and have books upon books of Star Wars tech info). We also limit the numbers on each side so that there is always at least a 3-1 advantage for the Empire to reflect the times. And because it is an RP event the very outcome of the battle has already been decided to a point. We know who the "heros" are and we can't kill them. Everyone else is free game.

That may seem crazy to you but on an RP level it is great fun and helps to move our plot lines along.

GrimBear, you mentioned that light fighters are favored more in PVP. I have to respectfully disagree with you there. I have seen entire squadrons of Oppressors that are built for nothing but PVP and A-Wing hunting. They are amazing ships that move like UFOs and A-Wings run from them. It is a beutiful thing. There is also a B-Wing on Shadowfire that moves like a damn A-wing. I don't know what this pilot has in that beast but it's super bad.

I have alot of respect for people who can fly a light or heavy fighter into combat and win. TIE pilots and Oppressor PVP pilots are crazy. As are A-Wing and B-wing PVP pilots.
