Oh god, how annoying this feature would be. It'd be "Leeeerooooooy" all over again....

Why not whole-server voice chat, why not ground voice-chat. I use yahoo most of the time but voice chat would be convienent to talk about factional raids and stuff. Although my servers rebels are very strong, the imperials are a threat to deal with because they use voice-chat to organize. All the imps on my server connect to a single voice-chat teamspeak server. That's why we hold tat and correlia but I want naboo dangit hehehe.

Frankly, I'd never use it for my own reasons. I don't care about bandwidth, I've got a murderously powerful broadband connection. What I don't want is some CSR freezing my ass because I drop an F-bomb when someone hits me hard. SOE's Big Brother department is notoriously inconsistent as it is, the last thing I want them doing is eavesdropping.

Sounds interesting, but, what would those who are deaf do?
Good point, keep typing i guess. I prefer Yahoo to teamspeak. The quality is great, it's more fun, and less confusing. Be nice if all the rebels in the game could get Yahoo/teamspeak(be sure to /tell mse when you raid!) and start becoming more organized just like the imps are. I just have my sources hehehe, what I can tell you, all the imps on my server use ventrillo to organize, we must counteract!

Although it would be a nice feature, real time VCS would extremely difficult to moderate. You can't have logs of voice chat. Thus a CSR would have to be continuously monitor one channel for abusive behaviour. An a real time filter speech filter to filter our swear words would be extremely difficult. So a real time voice chat would not be feesable.
However, a client side speech to text / text to speech chat system would work.
Communications can be logged and similar moderation techniques currently being used to control abusive behaviour.
The "male" voice of that female twilek would be actually be converted to a female voice.
Current technology and programing already exists that allow real time text to speech/speech to text. Integrating it into the game would not be too difficult. Bandwidth usage would be minimal, as most of the hard computing would be done client side.
Just my two cents.
