Thread: vendors
Can someone please explain to me which merchant lines give what vendor abilities?
I am a master dancer, and will be master tailor.. I see various types of vendors in different people's houses but when I look up the merchant lines it just said "gives the player more choice of vendors to choose from"
that doesn't tell me which line is best for what etc..
I'd like to have a cool looking vendor rather than some machine..
Can anyone tell me what I should train to be able to have this please
Business III - 'Coke machine' vendor
Business IV - 'Bazaar terminal' vendor + Droid Bartender
Novice Merchant - Random NPC vendor
Now from here on up _I believe_ the only Merchant line that gives you more choice of vendor is the hiring line.
Advertising and Managment certainly dont give you any more and I wouldnt expect the Efficiency line to either - however since I havent gone up the Hiring line yet I cant tell you what you get at each level.
The Hiring tree is what you want; itgives you new types of vendors (better terminals, droids, and NPCs). At Hiring IV, you're supposed to be able togain the ability to drop clothing onto NPC vendors to make them wear it, but that feature is currently broken.
The Advertising tree gives you the ability to make NPC vendors shout messages at customers and to register your vendors on the planetary map.
The Management tree simply allows you to place one more vendor for each skill level you attain.
The Efficiency tree reduces the cost of placing items on the bazaar and of maintaining vendors and structures. Currently you can reduce the cost of maintaining an NPC vendor to 0 with a certain level of Efficiency (Eff. III, I believe), but this is a bug and will probably be changed sometime soon.
Master Merchant increases your Hiring skill even further than Hiring IV, but I haven't quite hit that level yet (three skills away), so I'm not sure what new vendor types you get there.
No you need the skill to use vendors... My friend and myself found that out last night... I was trying to give him a vendor for in house... It didn't work...
It would also be nice if you could just give admin status to someone for a vendor, but you can't.... O well...
If you master the Merchant-line, you can advertise your vendor on the bigmap, but you have to manually run out to him every server-reset and tell him to advertise again because for 'some reason' vendors forget every server-reset.
annoying as hell, and makes the skill-tree nearly useless.
Hi all,
As far as I can tell, all the benefits from the Advertising branch on the Merchant skill tree have been disabled up to level three. Level four still seems to be there. If you look at the skill list, you currently get nothing from Advertising I to III, or at least it was like that on Valcyn last night.
Ok heres the deal
You get your first Vendor at Business III - I _believe_ you can place a vendor in any building you have admin rights in (i.e. doesnt have to be your building) but you do have to have Business III minimum (they nerfed the trading of vendors a while back). Business III gives you the big vendor terminal (the 'coke machine') Business IV gives you the Bazaar terminal and a Droid Bartender. Novice Merchant gives you a random NPC and you get more control over the NPC as you move up through the hiring line. You get an additional vendor at Novice Merchant (so you can have 2) and an additional one for each level of Managment skill (so 6 at Managment IV)
Bazaar listing will _not_ show you anything on a private vendor (to understand why try selecting 'Entire Galaxy' when browsing the Bazaar - then go and put your feet up while you wait)
Merchant: Advertising I enables you to set your vendors (and I think this only applies to theNPC vendors not the terminals) to shout a default 'advert' to anyone who gets close enough (running past the building is usually close enough). This however is a bit hit and miss if it works and certainly needs to be re-done every time the servers go down
Merchant: Advertising II enables you to write a custom advert for the above
Merchant: Advertising III enables you to list your vendor on the planetary map - again this has to be rebdone after the servers come back up
Merchant Advertising IV is listed as enabling you to hire NPC's in cities to advertise the location of your shop (presumably in the same manner as Advertising I) however no one reports that this actually works (can you imagine the spamthis would create in towns? Probably why it isnt working.....)
How do you create a vendor?
I am working on Novice Merchant, but do not own a house yet. Is "create vendor" an option on the house structure maintenance menu or something like that?
Cheers!
Yes. You need to own the house or be on the admin list to get the create vendor option.

Thanks (though I don't get the MA joke/poke but it's no biggie) a couple.
I have a friend whose got a vendor in his house where he is working toward merchant and sells things. Unfortunately RL has prevented him for playing for a week or more and he's now empty. Is there a way for someone on the admin list to restock for him?
So if I want to give him some things I made (medpacks and droids mostly) for him to sell to help him get merchant xps and I put them up on the "offers" tab for 1 cr I can get him these things, yes? (I realize since I have admin rights I can just drop it in his house as well)
...
There was another questions which prompted the original post but I can't remember it now. <sigh>

There's been some mixed blood between Merchants and artisans-who-have-domestic-arts-3/4. Some Merchants believe that the ability to have any vendors should solely be in the domain of the Merchant profession. Think of it like a Joe Sixpack with Eng 4 asking a Master Weaponsmith how he can make better CDEF pistols.
As for your question, no, at this time, only the person who actually placed the vendor has any sort of control over it. We're attempting to get a vendor admin list created, so that others can add/remove items and such, but it hasn't happened yet.
Yea I get the same thing from the real Droid Engineers for my 2 slot MSEs with their level 2 modules!
Thanks for all the good info!
I'm not a merchant but I have Master Artisan so I put a vendor in my house. Is there a site or a guide someplace about the ins and outs of using vendors? I tried doing a search here but my questions aren't yet specific enough to help narrow the results down from the tons that come back.
