Thread: CAPITAL SHIPS ARE ON THE WAY!!!

I am looking forward to hearing more about this, but I would like tho throw a couple ideas out there. First off, you would have to be more than a Master Pilot, maybe you would have to complete a series of quests/missions to unlock your cap ship slot or a new pilot profession. And there should be a way to include shipwrights, mayeb even a new proffesion to build a cap ship.

As for the size, I think we can all agree that a Corellian Corvette sized ship would be plenty, maybe a Nebulon-Bbut that would be pushing it. The ISD and Mon Cal cruisers are just to big, nice for part of a mission or quest, but not as a player owned vessel. Now I have some ideas for player cap ships, these are just ideas so don't bash them too bad:

Imperial Capital Ships:

"Imperial" Corvette: think a baby Star Destroyer for that Imp look, same size and strength of a Corellian Corvette.

Corellian Corvette: a common pool ship, used by the Empire, the Rebels and Neutrals alike.

Imperial Gunship: or whatever that big shuttle thing is called.

Rebel Capital Ships:

"Mon Cal" Corvette: like the Imp Corvette to give Rebels a signature ship, same size and strength as the others.

Corellian Corvette: common pool

Rebel Gunship: Like the Imp one, allready in game, just needs to be fleshed out.

Neutral Capital Ships:

Maruder Corvette: from the EU, the Han Solo books, something for the Neutrals.

Corellian Corvette: common pool

"Neutral" Gunship: don't know if there is anything like one in-game but some one did say they saw a big hutt ship once, maybe it was part of a mission?

And there are other ships that can be used, for example the small courier in the begining of Episode I, and others from the movies and the EU. Yes I know, some folks hate the EU but these or just ideas. And for another idea, how about a rouge Confederation Captian still fighting a war with his old Trade Fedeartion ship, heck the droid fighters are still around, why not, time line is out the window so lets just have fun. And yes, if capital ships are coming, they need to make space bigger, there just isn't enough space in...space.

Well here I'm lost on my way to the Faction Recruiter, and I wander to this thread here's some thoughts on possible Cap Ships:

Well with everyone talking about Capital Ships, I went and dusted off an old book I had stored away. The title A Guide to the STARWARS Universe Second Edition by Bill Slavicsek, so here’s some possible capital ships taken from that guide. I’ve gone and shorten it way down to the ship type and size, the faction, with some brief role and other info.

Assault Frigate: (Rebel)

600 Meters Long, Modified and Modernized Dreadnaught

Carrak-Class Light Cruiser:

350 Meters Long, Imperial Answer to Corellian Corvette.

Corellian Corvette: (Rebel / Neutral)

150 meters Long, Multi-Role Capitol Ship

Corellian Gunship (Rebel / Neutral)

120 Meters Long,

Dreadnaught: (Clone War)

600 Meters Long

Escort Frigate (Also Known As the Nebulon-B) (Imperial, Rebel)

300 Meters Long,

Imperial Customs Vessel: (Imperial)

150 Meters Long. Light Corvette,

Imperial Star Destroyer: (Imperial)

1600 Meters Long

Super Star Destroyer: (Imperial)

8000 Meters Long

Interdicdictor-class Cruiser: (Imperial)

600 Meters Long, Note: it has a massive gravity well generators that prevent and stop hyperspace travel

Lambda-Class Shuttle: (Imperial)

Passengers up to 20

Lancer-Class Frigate: (Imperial)

250 Meters Long, Role: Fleet protection against Rebel Starfighters

Mon Calamari Star Cruiser: (Rebel)

1200 Meters Long, Note: Many Redundant systems

Pocket Cruiser: (Clone War Capitol Ship)

Star Galleon: (Imperial) (Perhaps a fun Rebel Dungeon)

300 Meters Long, Role: Cargo Bulk freighter/Combat Ship, Special Note: Inside ship auto corridor security, corridor force shields, heavy blast doors, 300 troops.

Strike-Class Medium Cruiser: (Imperial)

450 Meters Long

Victory-Class Star Destroyer: (Cone Wars) (Imperial and Corporate Sector Authorities)

900 Meters Long, Clone Wars designed by Walex Blissex

As you can see there’s little chance that we will ever get the chance to pilot the Star Destroyers, or the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser. They are just too massive to be in the game that I can see.

If they can make a Star Trek MMOlike they are doing where you command Large Capital ships, then i think SOE can do it. If people are against large cap ships like a Star Destroyer then i question just how much a Star Wars fan some of you are.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I support NO DECAY.It should be run like EQ . No 20k price cap on the bazar and everyone can craft. Its has worked for 7 years on everquest and there is no decay plenty of money and no crazy prices.

Decay is only good for crafteres and bad for everyone else.

You have a point there simple rescaling and NPC crewing of capital ships would allow for ISD's to be run from the bridge by a handful of people. (if you wanted to go to the trek level of micromanagement)

I don't think they'll be ISD's exactly...I think it will be smaller equivalents. Something smaller than a dreadnaught probaly.

I hope not everyone can easily get these, so theres not 500,000 in orbit because every noob and his friend got one, and I hope theres rebel equivalents too so there can be some fun battles. As long as it encourages guilds to get a few of those ships..I can see it now.

-I support a Galactic Civil War fought between regular, average players... Simply strict, hardlined Imperials & freedom lovin' Rebels fighting for control of the galaxy. A Galactic Civil War fought not with glowsticks or lightsabers, but with blasters, lances, and how much guts you have. A Galactic Civil War which reflects the timeline, the destruction of the Death Star, the absolute control which the Empire has and the brave Rebels trying to break up that reign... The extinction of all but a few rare and special Jedi. That my friends, is the Galactic Civil War and that is what we have to aim for.

Star Destroyers are a bit impractical if they are going to be like the one in Deep Space.

First of all the thing has nearly 100 guns. If they are all manned turrets, that means you would

need 100 plus players on the same ship. Just the concentration of players would cause lag similar

to Coronet.

Then, you have to consider that all these people could be firing at once thereby increasing the lag.

It's just a lot of graphics being shot about.

It's more practical to go for the ships like the Corvette that are big, but still manageable. I'm sure there are

versions available for all 3 pilot types or the Corvette could just be common pool.

Well, a Corvette isn't that much bigger than a Y-8 (only by 40m).

As long as we don't have Mon Cal cruisers, roaming around, how you're going to get dozens of people up there just to operate the thing is beyond me. Also, with a length of 400m, imagine how long it will take you to run to repair all the components

Entering the ship itself after a successful dock does sound like a nice idea though.

It won't take to long if you have K-18 Rations, which give you the "Burst" speed for upwards of 60 Seconds.

That will help us Artisans out in making some extra credits.

Larger capital ships should be put in because 1) the ppl who disagree that ISDs (or any star destroyers for that matter)shouldnt be put in aren't thinking about how cool it would be (yes they should be limited to guilds) 2) The victory class star destroyers would do fine to be owned by hand full of players/NPC's because they are smaller and more manueverable (ppl are forgetting that theyare the smallest star destroyer)3) Huge capital ship battles are what makes (for me at least) the coolest part of the battles in the movies (notice they didnt put too many ground battles in the movies but there are many space battles the most notable one being the battle of the 2nd deathstar)

(sorry for all the parentheses)

I really like the idea of capital ships in the game. JTL really needs a boost.
But I think more important are bug fixes. Never seen so many bugs in this game as it is now.
Let's see what Pub 19 brings us today?!

Sounds like good news. Can't wait for it. And yes, I think smaller capital ships need to be player owned. I doubt the problem of needing many players to operate one of those vessels would ever arise. Basically, we all know a single person could pilot any-sized ship with the current controls. What you WOULD need is gunners.

You could work this into the Rebel/Imperial ranking system though. When you get so high up, you could, say,buy consistent space crew members with faction points.Buying a gunner means one of your ship's non-automatic lasers will be manned. I think this would be great. And there would always be the option of having other players with you as well.

Also, we need space stations! The ground areas are getting pretty cluttered....well they're always cluttered, with buildings. Space stations would rock. It would give people actual places to go in space. You could even allow players to upgrade them, so that their station offers ship repairs. And, of course, board them. They could be factional as well, with mounted turrets and crew.

I say all this...but I have the feeling it's been thought of before. I wouldn' doubt this stuff will eventually be put in the game, given that people keep supporting it.
