I agree that a well customized freighter should be a very difficult opponent against an attacking fighter. That is with the freighter being defensive and relying on defensive firepower, shields and hull strength.


Dog-fighting large freighters doesnt seem right though.

The problem is, what is the actual purpose of a freighter in the SWG game world? I mean, there is not really any cargo to haul that could not be just loaded into a characters inventory or backback and transported via shuttle. I would love a freighter if it meant that I could speculate in commodities and haul bulkfreight from system to system for a profit. That would require a special type of cargo, and a market to sell it to.

I'd like to think that we would transport for various Faction missions through quests and terminals. Just like you get 10k for killing some animals, we may get 3k missions to deliver freight missions. There may be generic delivery missions avilable from various NPCs.


Im hoping that they can use as a justification for allowing people tobuy and recieve bazaar off-planet purchases. Meaning a person can be on Tatooine and buy an item thats on Coreilla and recieve that item after a given period of time at the city of bazaars of their choice. There will be a small fee included, which is "passed" on to the freighter pilot who picks the mission associated with the purchase. In reality thefreighter pilot doesnt actually carry the person purchase, nor is the fee neccessarily what the pilot recieves as payment...it may actually be more in order to make the missions worthwhile...but there is no real corelation between the mission and purchase(a little corporate welfare here).


Basically the buyer decides where he wants to pick up te item, it could be where he purchased it or maybe where is will be after the wait period is up. He waits 5-15mins and is able to go to the bazaar of his choosing to retrieve the item.


Completly seperate Coreilla has freight missions to Tatooine, or whatever planet. They are for loads of "ghost" freight supposedly player purchases. The missions have their fair share of issues such as avoiding pirates and stuff. We getwork as freighter pilots,make a little money and somebody doesnt have to spend$1600 or more to travel off planet to pick up an orderthat only cost $3000. The fee will wil cheaper than teh maintence costs for traveling to that planet and back if they have a ship themselves.


Now the larger your freighter teh larger your load and the more money you are paid, alsothese may beharder missions.

I'd like to try an organize convoys if possible. it would be cool to have a bunch of us doing missions flying in a tight group for mutual protection.

Well, I don't think my primary character's sympathies would offend you, but since he's been pretty much a pure crafter since Day One, he remains -- officially -- Neutral.


I'm somewhat concerned about how being a Privateer will affect a character's ground reputation, so until that's resolved I don't know if I'll be going up any of the three piloting trees....

This is something I'd like to see emerging naturally just due to how the game is constructed. (I will say that it would be a lot more likely if we have Player Contracts by which people could make trustable deals with each other, but I've probably walloped that deceased equine too long already.)

You know, i was just noticing there are plenty of freighters flying overhead when you are in or near a city. They seem to have 3D models already, so i'd like to think it wouldnt be too hard to use those for our player owned freighters. It seems to be several differnent models also.

I seem to remember reading in the smuggler patch notes that normal people wouldn't be able to smuggle spice over the normal transport system anymore. There is your cargo then.
I would love to see this implemented and I would love to fly around in a massive freighter that takes a full group to fly.

Hey, if this change also means getting crates of Muon Gold and the like off the Bazaar terminals, I'm for it!


As a player, I understand just wanting to be able to sell things. But from the perspective of a character in the game, it makes no sense to have these things publicly available for sale. What do you think would happen to you if you put an ad in the paper selling crates of heroin?


Personally, I'd like it ifputting a sliced object or spice for sale on a Bazaar terminal instantlyspawneda squad of stormtroopers to explain to you that the Emperor doesn't appreciate youmocking his laws... except that there'd be people who'd use this as afaction pointvending machine: insert spice to receive NPCs who can be killed for FPs. Sigh.


At any rate, I look forward to seeing how the developers integrate smuggling into the space part of SWG.

I want more multipassenger ships, the Corellian Transport shuttle we see in starports would be a good ship, it would also be a good profession/job, transporting people, if the devs decided to add Transporter, then add it ASAP, that would be a nice profession, and you wouldnt have to leave the npc shuttles in

No offense, but carrying an X-wing in your hold severly limits your cargo capicity...but its certainly a good guerilla tactic, a "sleeper" mini assualt carrier.


I think another post stated that the Corellian Corvette(starport shuttle) will be included. It wasnt really confirmed, but I certainly hope its the case.

Big ugly frieghters could be for mining asteroids and stuff too. Give the merchants something... and the pirates to attack, mwahaha
