Thread: PvP damage is totaly insane

damage reduction should never be instituted into jtl for the simple fact that it is a twitch based game. this type of game relies on the skill of the user, not formula and calculations. people who do not understand this obviously have never played a flight sim or fps before. these games usually result in quick deaths in pvp confrontation, thats how they are meant to be.
You make a great observation.... and you are probably correct in stating that "people who do not understand this obviously have never played a flight sim or fps". Because SWG is an RPG, not a FPS or Flight SIM.... the devs took the playerbase that is used to and bought a MMORPG (not to be confused with MMOFPS) and then added FPS to it. Turn based gaming is what alot of the playerbase is used to.
I know I have never played a FPS or Flight SIM upto this time, I am a die hard MMORPG'er and been playing one since 97'. So yes I am one that is also learning the different mechanics between RPG and FPS... and while I understand them I will not stop giving input into an RPG game that aspects of an add-on may need to be implimented better for their target audience which is RPG'ers or they would of just made it a seperate game in itself that was focused on FPS'er.

Well guys,
If you really pay attention to the movies............
I remember TIE's and X-wings being blown out of the sky with one shot from either enemie, a turret, etc.
Remember in ANH when red leader (the big fat pilot of the x-wing that looked like cliff from cheers) gets clobbered by a TIE.
One shot, kaboom.
I like it, good releif from melee combat on ground, whack, whack, whack, whack, timbe.............. oh wait, heal heal heal, whack whack whack. boring.
Yeah i agree, making PC craft to hard to kill will make it in to the same crap as ground PVP. Hope SOE dont listen to the whiners again and screw it like the ground game...

Is it not obvious? To have fun playing in space just like you!
Ok, so Kessel is full of PvP griefers. And if you want to become an Ace, you have to get past them. What’s the problem?
This is a twitch based game, getting the master box opens up a slightly better ship, and slightly better equipment, but that is it. If you can’t do it with the equipment you have you are not going to become an Ace. And if you are unable or unwilling to do this, why do you want to be an Ace anyways?
Remember this is twitch based, so beating the computer will eventually gets boring. How many twitch based games do you have collecting dust in your cd cases cause you uninstalled them from your computer? The real fun of space comes from PvP. If you hate PvP, yet you still want the Master Box in pilot, then good luck to you, personally I think you are wasting your time.
So what you mean is that you do not respect other players ability to enjoy the game as much as you do? Or are you just saying you like other players to just be your content even if they have no desire or lack the ability to effectively defend themsleves? Or is it just that you like to gank players when they are trying to have fun? I mean we all pay to play this game, we all know without a doubt there is a vast difference in mindset between PvP'ers and PvE'ers... so my only conclusion is that you are a PK'er and Griefer hell bent on ruining others funs for your own personal enjoyment. You are the very pinnacle of what I believe PvP'ers are if this is your type of play.
Respect others, did you not learn that ever? It does not matter why we do not want to PvP, the mere fact we do not is all you need to know and respect. There are plenty others that wish to participate in this type of play that you should not even want to force the un-willing to become easy prey and content for you because you can not find enjoyment in missions, quests, or RP'ing. I have played this game, and others (UO, EQ, EQ2 beta, FFXI, AC, AC2, etc) and have always taken the PvE path and have never been bored, I use my imagination to play the game, to make it exciting.. I do not need someone else to spare their life to make mine enjoyable. We have different mindsets, we think different, we get enjoyment out of the game different ways.... all you need to do is respect that.
For the rest of you remember. When playing other players in twitch combat, equipment is important, and yours is almost as good as theirs. You can make up for any short falls with two important factors. One is skill, practice dogfighting until you get good at it, then take a crack at Ace. Two is numbers, the fact is, if you are outnumbered in a dog fight, it is very difficult to keep an enemy off your tail AND target your enemies. That is where you have a big advantage. You have the initiative here. The griefers are just waiting around with as many friends as they can get. You can take the time to gather a sufficient force to overwhelm them.
I guess that was a long winded way to make a simple point: Practice, attack in numbers, and if you don’t want to do that, then why do you want to play?

Well we do have a different mind set, and that was kind of my point. For my part, I don't play turn based combat games. They are all about equipment and getting the right character template, combat macro, and maximizing all the combat variables to your advantage. Some people like that, that’s fine, but it’s not for me. My char has always been a pure crafter. The strategy game element of running a store appeals to me. To each there own.
I also like twitch games. The combat in twitch is WAY different from a turn based game. First of all twitch gaming, unlike turn based, is ALL about PvP. Playing the computer in twitch is just for practice. Look at any popular twitch game in the last few years, Quake, or BF 1492. Players play the computer for practice, but the real game is PvP.
The elements of turn based combat, which makes PvE combat enjoyable, are not present in twitch combat. You can build up a nicer ship, but at the end of the day, it is still just point and shoot. Take it from someone who has killed 1000's of Doom Monsters in PvE, it gets boring, no matter how good your equipment is. PvP is what makes twitch gamesgreat.
Anyways, sorry if my language was abrupt, but I stand by my point: PvP is the central feature of a twitch game. If you don’t like PvP twitch gaming, you will probably not enjoy JTL.
Oh one other thing, I did try some combat in the ground game, to see if it would grow on me. I got bored with it, but when I did play, I found that I liked PvE, but did not like PvP at all. Wrap your head around that... lol
