Thread: Jedi in space

LOL, yeah, the title was meant to be a little cheesy. Now if only they implemented Jedi eye beams that disintegrated other space ships... j/k

As mentioned earlier, I don't really care if Jedi got specials "space powers" or not so long the game play goes accordingly (i.e. no powers = no death penalty).

I once heard that a Jedi space battle was not only a battle of ships and piloting, but also a battle of force - where the force was used in an attempt to affect the others' flying abilities. But... on the flip side, Obe Wan didn't seem to have much of an effect on the Fetts in Ep II.

Ofcourse, Jedi do have some precognition skills, but that can't really be implemented into a MMO.

I was hoping a dev would pop on and say "you'd be just like everyone else" or "you'd get XYZ, but you'll have to suffer ABC...", or something to that effect...

I made a post early on in this thread making a joke about the topic, however after reflection and reading other posts I have a serious opinion.

Jedi should (if anything) get a "force-autopilot" that basically runs the ship on the best available spaceNPC AI, consuming force power and lasting until shut off or until force power is depleted. That way, you can sit back and let the AI do the fighting for you, if you lack the reflexes and skills to match your Jedi aspiration. (This is as close to the high reflex/precognative power as can be had in this game.) I see no reason for anything else, because its the only thing that ever seperated Jedi from mundane pilots. In fairness though ...if you get blown up while using this ability, then it counts toward Jedi death limits.

Ok, I am not on the forums often so please forgive my 2 week lapse in time from your comment. I read your post and had to laugh. You don't think Jedi should be in the game ... LOL ... IT'S A STAR WARS GAME!! What did you think would be in here Klingons?

That's strange, because I had to read your post and laugh since you obviously have no idea what time period this game is set in. Valencey is absolutely right that there should be no player jedi in this game. SWG is set in the time period between the destruction of the first death star, and the battle of hoth. During this time period all jedi were thought to be extinct except for 3 of them (Luke, Vader, and Yoda), 2 of which were in hiding.

It may be a Star Wars game, but this is NOT episode 2 where jedi are running around everywhere you look. They're supposed to be rare and in hiding for fear of extermination, not getting fancy starships and running around starports showing off thier lightsabers. I remember a time back before beta when continuity actually meant something to people, and the general consensus among people on the pre-beta forums was to NOT include player jedi because it didn't fit the timeline. The devs however ignored our wishes and put jedi in anyway because they thought it would be "cool" regardless of continuity but swore up and down that getting a jedi character would be hard and mysterious making player jedi a rare thing.

Well they kind of messed that up with holocrons, didn't they? Holocrons were by far the worst thing they could have ever done to this game, because it not only threw the whole "becoming a jedi is hard and mysterious" thing out the window letting everyone know how it's done, but it also started a huge jedi craze with everyone and thier mother wanting to be a jedi.

I'm starting to get sick of all this jedi crap. I try to deal with it the best I can, but a lot of you people make it that much harder to accept player jedi in this time period. I mean come on, you guys want jedi starfighters and goofy force powers in space during this time period? Force shield and force autopilot? That's just stupid and has nothing at all to do with what the "force" actually is.

I still believe that Jedi have no place in this time period. This was supposed to be a game about the Galactic Civil War between the rebels and imperials. If the devs wanted it to be about Jedi Wars and all that nonsense, they should've just based the game in a different time period either before or after the original trilogy, NOT during. Every single game that was ever jedi crazy (the Jedi Knight series, KOTOR, etc) was based either long before the original trilogy, or long after the original trilogy.

For this game to be based just after Episode IV and have jedi running around everywhere during a time when they're supposed to be hunted down by the empire and near extinction is just rediculous.

Ok, with JTLS coming out, I understand there will be a new Pilot Profession along with a Shipbuilder Profession.

Now I can take my main and do the Pilot Profession, but I don't want to. My main is only used to make credits to support my Jedi and help my friends (until I finish grinding out that billion jedi xp).

I have some serious questions about JTLS and how Jedi will figure into it:

1. Will Jedi be able to do the Pilot Profession without dropping any of their Jedi skills? There are countless Jedi showing above average piloting skills. I'm not asking for a special "Jedi Pilot" tree or anything. Just the chance to do the same Pilot Profession and gain the same mods and benifits a non-Jedi Pilot does.

2. How will JTLS deaths affect Jedi xp? Will there be the same xp loss?

3. How will this affect jedi xp? Will Jedi gain jedi xp or normal Pilot xp? (This is saying Jedi do not get the regular Pilot Profession)

4. Will the BH's be able to track Jedi into space and be able to track us through space and attack us there?

5. Will Light jedi get X-Wings and Dark Jedi Tie Bombers? (jk)

I know others have more questions than I've thought of already. Please post them here.

I believe it was said somewhere that JTLS will add a seperate set of skillpoints to only be used on JTLS professions.

2, Who knows... what you really gotta think about is if you die in space, who's going to bring back all your stuff for when you respawn.

3. They will most likely gain pilot xp. The devs have pretty much said jedi will not effect space combat at all. Everyone will be sorta equal in JTLS

4. Dun know, maybe. Although it would be really hard for tracking droids to search ALL of space. I would guess no

5. No! Jedi's get a small cockpit with one wing attacked and have to shoot a cdef pistol through the window.

They said that they will provide additional 100 skillpoints just for pilot profs (not spaceship crafting) and these points cant be used for anything else but pilot skills.

Ok there has been some talk going on that Jedi might get abilities in space but here are two possibilaties:

1. Jedi DO get abilities in space but still suffer the xp loss if they die, will make them think twice.

2. Jedi DO NOT get abilities in space but DO NOT suffer xp loss when they die in space.

well i would pefer #2 because Jedi should not be OOBER or lose xp in space so hey

The latter, as stated by the developers, is the case. Much to my disappointment. I would like a third choice:

Jedi DO NOT get abilities in space but DO suffer xp loss when they die in space.

That would be much more fun.

I'm going to agree with Qwolahn. Screw Jedi. Screw them all. They ruined my game on the ground, and there's not going to be ANY way that they'll do that in space.
