what squadron do you fly for? smuggler's alliance can only go to deep space as a rebel, RSF can only go as an Imperial, Corsec pilots can choose which side they want to support.

If you're Corsec, then there's a bug that "sticks" with the fation you first declared with. A re-deed is rumored to fix it.

According to a CSR, that's a "known bug", but has yet to have a fix. Like the Smuggler revamp, it will come "in time".

Unfortunetly Zeon is 100% correct. A know bug, redeeding does fix it until you hit deep space again.
Posting in the in-live thread from time to time might be a decent idea.....

I thought this happened to all privateer pilots. It happened to me when I was in Smugglers' Alliance. (For which I was able to declare as an Imperial, so the second post is a bit off.) Redeeding did fix it, though.

Basically, (to reiterate what everyone else has said), it works like this:
Privateer is broken into 3 factions, RSF, SA, CorSec (Duh, Caile)
RSF is Imperial Aligned, meaning you are treated as Imperial, for all intents and purposes when fighting factional ships, i.e. you can not fire upon Imperial Ships.
Smuggler's Alliance is "truly neutral," meaning you can fire upon both Rebel and Imperial ships in space.
CorSec is Rebel Aligned, meaning you are treated as Rebel, for all intents and purposes, when fighting factional ships, i.e. you can't damage Rebel ships.
I've tested this over and over and carefully documented it. This is the way it is, no doubt in my mind.
Why did I reiterate that? Because the bug is happening this way, using a Smuggler's Alliance pilot as an example:
You enter deep space as an Imperial and poof some Rebel ships, then leave. Land elsewhere, do some work, kill some critters, log out, come back, play a few more days with no space, come back, go to Kessel. Your Deep Space faction is still imprinted on your ship, meaning you can not, in this example, fire upon Imperial ships.
What redeeding your ship does is it will clear this flag until you go back to Kessel. The strange part about the bug I've seen is it happens ONLY in Kessel. I have no problems outside Kessel at all. It could be a lingering effect of Kessel requiring overtness in the past.
Hope that made sense

I kinda thought re-deeding the ship would work seeing that the faction stuck to the ship. So i re-deeded them and it was all yellow in kessel again. Ofcourese the irresistable draw of Deep Space will have me again and again so i guess the sporty paint jobs will have to wait till the bug is fixed.
thanks all.

I've not done CorSec yet, however, I asked several CorSec buddies, who say they can't shoot rebels. Could be something. I do know for a fact that SA can shoot both sides, cuz I do it all the time /halo

If you're using a resource or a component, make sure that you put the correct resource/component in. If your schematic requires a component with afds68a7sd6f8 serial but you have 9f8j7fg9jf89hg79 instead, it's not going to work. (don't you just love my random serial numbers?).
