Jeez..i read all 17 pages and you couldn'teven manage the one page.....read my post pg17 (the big one) for longer version of below.
TIE's COULD BE equipped with hd's but then they aint TIE's no more....they become a TIE varient capable of holding a hd and its shape/design would change dramatically....easy as that.

Actually I did read through the first 6 or 7 pages before I had to leave for school...
I have to disagree with you that the shape would need to be changed dramatically to accomidate the hd and shields. Since Star Wars is a work of fiction, it does give the devs a lot of room to fudge around with things like this. It's like asking how fast do the ships go in the movies. To which the answer is "as fast as the plot needed them to be".
One could argue that the hyperdrive and shield generator are of such dimensions that they could be added into the shell of a TIE without the need to modify the existing frame, at least externally. Or perhaps JTL will alow for the addition of visible components on the hull to indicate the extencive modifications needed to give the craft in question all it's abilities.
Or maybe when we first recieve the craft, it will be called a TIE Fighter, but then after we drop in a new component it will suddenly be called a TIE Custom Fighter or something along those lines.

Well, one could argue that pink elephants can be found floating in the tatoo system then - @ lots of room.....
I haven't read THAT many of the EU books and all but from the ones i have and from the movies, one logically assumes that the shape of a TIE fighter would change if it did have a hd...just look at the standard TIE and the TIE Advanced (has hd and pretty different)...and the size of the hd on Amidala's ship - although it is a larger ship and 30 odd years before SWG I don't really think that a hd would be small enough to just smack down anywhere in/on a TIE....
Also, the TIE is only the starter ship for Imp's if I'm correct so it's not like you couldn;t get anything else. And saying that, as I said before, im all for there being many SD's in each sector and for TIE's being able to go into hyperspace in the same manner that rebels/neutrals will be able to except that they dont have hd's - that the tie returns to a SD and launches from there (not seen but logically assumed) and is done in same time frame it would take rebel to jump for it to be fair and not have ppl whinning about it.
Something like that anyways

And in reading the Info for starting as an imp pilot. It seems to suggest TIEs will have shields, not as an add-on option but as standard equipment. I can deal with hyperdrives I guess. If there are optional I will try to avoid getting one until I maybe get a ship that is supposed to come with it. I will never however, get shields on a traditionally unshielded imp ship. That's part of the fun. It's part of the continuity. Far as i recall from playing XWA, shields didn't make the difference in who won and who lost. Skill did. And a lighter, faster, shieldless interceptor for me is much more appealing than an X-wing wearing an interceptor skin.

You rebs dont seem to be able to define the difference between a game and watching the films. It seems you dont want us to have drives or sheilds, either because you want an easy time of it, or it improves your own immersion of the swg experience at the expense of imperial players. You want to kill 20 TIE's on a run and feel like your skywalker?then go play XwA where the npc's dont mind. Dont want us to be on equal terms? Cowards. Bah!

Dolgan what are you talking about? You're not trying to make a point in favor of balance are you? Since when was balance of any kind ever an issue in SWG? There is no balance in ground combat, why should there be in space combat? TIEs don't have HDs. Period. End of story. You want HD, get a different ship.

BAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Obviously you haven't read even the last page(s) of this thread mate...
You obviously don't know too much about star wars or probably simply dont't think it is relevant - well it is....the Emipres strength in space came from the countless numbers of pilots it had to throw at any opposition.
Also, we are only talking about standard TIE's, not the more advanced models.
Besides, we have to start off with the Z95 - so quit whinnin'
And on a last note, you have every chance to be on equal terms by using the advanced variants, the ones with life support/shields/hd's, but in a TIE fighter/Z95 you are at an obvious disadvantage unless you got skill to back it up - if you can't pilot for sh*t then dont fly a TIE, pretty obvious it would seem

Yes I have heard most people are sticking to the privateer ships?
Only thing I hear about the faction ships is that they suck?
dont know anything beyond that.
