Heh its already been done with a bit of playing with the files. JTL space is built from the exact same systems they used to make the ground. A guy in beta switched the space files with the ground files. He was perfectly flying in the skies of Endor and Corellia. He even managed to load a beta planet to fly around. The only problem was that the sky was pink. Otherwise it was perfect. It can be done and the devs have said so back at Fan Fest.

yeah it sure would be cool and so on, but I can only imagine how hard it must be to actualy code it to work properly in an mmorpg. Must be a nightmare... but I don't know much of coding so might be totally wrong. and Atmosperic flight isn't really needed in the game in anyway besided the cool factor, rather have them working on things that really needs to be done.

It'd be very much doable if it's another company like Blizzard that'sin charge of development. It's just too much for the devs at SOE. They would most likely break the entire game while trying to do something like that.

Pretty big bump...but while this would be very cool, it would be almost impossible to do, as other people have said, the lag and the complaints would both be...enormous.

Well they can at least add atmosphere flight features, without any interaction with on-land objects except seeing objects, cities and other players in low detail. This should be pretty easy to code as JTL is using the same system as ground game. This would be the coolest addition to MMO game EVER. Would be tremendous FUN and no complaints at all! Then they can think of new improvements, like on-ground parking, etc.
And those who would like to reduce the lag should be able to set the option of preloading whole planet with all of objects in low detail to RAM which shouldn't really take more that 2 gigs of it.

Calling in airstrikes from the ground would work (since that would be a turn-based attcak) but that's about it.

From what I've gathered from various developer's comments since JTL's launch, it would be possible. No doubt it would be a huge undertaking with the technical and game balancing issues that would crop up. But it would be so awesome to be able to park my YT near my house for a quick lunch and zoom off again to space.

All i would like to do is land my ship, be able to unload stuff from it without having to always launch into space to get something.
Id love to actually see it on land with the hatch open so i can go into it.
