Leave this idea for Star Wars Galaxies 2. By that time computers and servers will be able to handle it. I say wait till 2008 to see Star Wars Galaxies 2. Random guess =)
Nah, that's when we get the Smuggler Revamp. Try 2303 for SWG2.

Space and Ground are ment to be far away from each other. We can't even get them to give us Force Sensitive exp.
thank god theres too many jedi already without giving anyone else a big helping hand, although it would be nice to see space useful for something on the ground just to see more people out there, plain and simple.

Excellent idea. Then, you could fly to a planet and then fly to the local destination, instead of having to swoop like 8k meters on some remote planet. Would really save time!

Will never happen, for mechanical and balance reasons i beleive.

I wouldn't say never. "Unlikely" would be a better word. The Devs would have to upgrade the system quite a bit to be able to handle it, but it wouldn't be impossible. If they put their mind to it, I'm sure they could do it.
Ground ballance (if you're talking about combat) would be easy enough to fix. They'd only have to make it so laser bolts, missiles and bombs wouldn't damage anyone (including players, vehicles and pets), only HQs and turrets.

If they did do it, I doubt you will be able to interact with people on the ground (appart from seeing eachother) because they are 2 totaly different combat systems. It would be a bit unbalanced to allow people in ships (using a full real-time combat system like any other sim) to blast away at people on the ground (who are bound to a very limited boarderline turn-based system), someone on the ground would be dead before they knew what was happening.
The best we could hope for is air to air combat (or non at all for lag reasons) and the ability to land and transport people on MP ships. Which for this game, would be an ok system.
I'd just be happy with being able to land a ship outside my house or on a private landing pad in a player town and it stay there like a house until I take off again ![]()

How bout pulling it like a vehical but instead it flys in on remote control, you would have to be in an open area outside of any major city.

But it would ROCK to do a strafe run on a bunch of overt imps getting ready for PVP .. LOL
the only trouble is, the first several weeks, there will be no ground-based armies because EVERYONE'S in their atmospheric ships looking for ground-based armies O.o

Well I don't ships engageing in ground combat, it would be way to much power, and I can see the 'grifers' allready thinking about who they could gank. I would just be happy landing on a planet (like in the movies, seeEp1 out side of city on Tantooine) and not just the starport. My idea would be treat the landing like a Scoutt camp, keep it outside the city, and there ya go.

I wouldn't mind having a hanger to park my TIE, it'd look nice and spiffy next to my house. Air and ground are not very equal. Imagine hordes of rebels firing their pitiful T21s that just bounce off my shields (which I'm not supposed to have by the way) and armor, and firing back with torps and lasers that instantly incap and kill. Ground troops carry small weapons meant for killing other ground troops. TIEs carry rather large lasers which instantly rip through stormtrooper armor, and pretty much any armor that troops can wear. All the ground people would have to buy JTL or be pretty useless. A way to rectify this problem is to give turrets the ability to shoot down TIEs. It is after all, a gun emplacement. Also, make starfighters only able to damage the turrets or HQ, not enemy troops. Give HQs shields which must be taken out by TIEs before the ground troops can enter the base. Another use for JTL, making that expensive base harder to kill, and making it more realistic (Even today, airstrikes soften up targets in preperation for ground attacks). I'd hate to see that lag on this idea though.
