OK, this is just my opinion but here goes:
What separates grind from fun is content:
Is there a way you can grind and be part of a story at the same time: look at games like DAOC and FFXI (athough that game's economy really sucks). There are plenty of plot related quests you can take with actual content and story to get you from level X to level X+1. The problem with swg is hat all of the content is one of 3 types. Bring X person from location A to B, kill xp person(s) at X waypoint, or get buffed and hope you survive X mazelike dungeon (this is the best content in swg IMO and is pretty much for maxed out characters only). Also none of the content really tells an ongoing story except the theme parks, and most of which the story is rather boring and or disjointed.

SWG-JTL will blow WoW away except for the Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 fans who just want to plain kill each other and try to be the better than everyone else. So pointless.

Go read the WoW boards (they are open to the public). It plays exactly the same as any other MMORPG and most of the players compare it to EQ.

Well said, Kinshi.

WoW is NOT Star Wars, there is no comparison to be made.
The folks who really like the SW genre over Fantasy are going to play SWG no matter how good WoW is.
The folks who dont really care about the genre, then they might go anywhere (EQII, WoW, Anarchy Online, WWII Online, etc)
Personally I dont give a whit about what that transient MMOG population wants, its been my experience these power gamers roll in, make all kinds of noise, get changes that break the system, then leave the rest of us holding the bag while they head off to a new MMOG to ensure it gets broken too. (you know who you are, you types that blast through a skill tree in just a cpl hours. You dont care at all for the skills, they are just a speed bump on they way to the supposed 'top' of the game.)
If anything, these types of players are the fatal flaw in any MMOG, especially since game companies consitently underestimate how driven these people are to reach the top of whatever the game is as fast as they can. Its called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and it reigns supreme in the gaming world. Personally I view them as the 'locusts' of gaming. They swarm into a new game, chew it up then swarm off.
I spent 4 years in EQ and would likely still be there, if it werent for the entire game getting retooled to cater to the high end game. The game has gotten so broken because of the sheer number of people powering their way to the top, that the low end of the game became utterly meaningless
Folks here cry about SWG being broken, but ya know what, so are the other current MMOGs, and as soon as you locusts make it to WoW or EQ II, it will become just as broken in new and exciting ways. Why will they be broken, just look in the mirror.

On grinding choice-the problem with grinding in this game is that you must grind in order to do well. I am more of a casual player, the type who takes things slow and enjoys his surroundings.
Which is why I get pwned in PVE or PVP by uber powergamers who spend 24/7 grinding. I think the real balacne issue with this game is between grinders and non-grinders, which is why I am looking forward to the skill-based JTL. However, the devs must realize that grinding is NOT an excuse for something to do in a game.

Well then SWG is the best choice... since all the other games i played UNLESS you grind there's nothing to do (COH, etc). at least with SWG i've had fun for a year+ and i haven't even gained ANY xp in the last... oh 4-5 months heh

What i hate is these "people" he refers to in beta grinding cracks me up. Anyone who wastes there energy to grind in beta amazes me. Beta is there for trying to spot bugs not ramrod through the proffession. Those goofs that grind in beta are already on a quick path to burn out. So tell your "Guildmates" have fun with WoW cause we wont miss their whining here when they get bored cause they made master in a week and are crosseyed and have a weird twitch. If you play a game and enjoy the people around you and have friends its not a grind, its progressing through your own story. This also holds true to all the elite combat clones, you look at 1 guy holding a stun baton or gaffy stick you can guess 9/10 what his proffs are without even examining him. Its competition breeds grinding, if you dont give in to fads and flavors and just play your game you will be much happier.

WoW is crap IMO. To many little kids running around yelling moronic words like roxor. I think most of its people will come from d2. I think i will go play e2 once it comes out. I love starwars and all but i like the guild system they have going there and to be honesti wana just fly on a carpet.
I still plan to play star wars ever now and then and hopefully soon they will fix the gwc to have some meaning.

This is the most true statement I have read in the forums. No matter what the MMO I see an endless grind to get where you want to be. It is the Devs responsibility, however, to keep our interest and make it fun and enjoyable. But without the grind everyone would finish the game and then quit to do something else. Then what? No more SWG! I for one play this game because I am a Star Wars fan. I understand that changes take time. But the Devs need to add more quest related content to take our minds off the grind. That I believe is what Digitalazsasin is trying to say.
To continue to grind without content = no fun. JTL will be a wonderful change from the ground game but how long til the novelty wears off and you find yourself endlessly grinding with no change or new content being added. The Devs have a long way to go to fix the GCW. There is a wealth of fantastic ideas on the forums. They only need to read and implement. In this way they will add the content to keep our minds off the endless grind and also make this game feel more like the Star Wars universe we all want to play in.
Here are some good threads to read through. All great ideas!

I urge you to read these threads and input your ideas. Only in this way can we affect a change in the game for the better.

I must admit I have yet to play JTL, didn't want beta to take away from my jedi grinding, however I spoke my vetern SWG guildmates and they report that it's more
of the same. They said the first leveling part seems kool but then what? More of the same. They also state that it's even buggier then on the ground, and the devs will
be going live towards the end of the month.
I am sadened by this new, however I will test it for myself and then make my
judgement.
Word of warning devs, if this is the same crap over and over again grind and grind
and more grinding, I will bid you farewell and take as many members of my guild to
WOW. As I've heard nothing but great things from my co-workers on WOW beta.
Don't you get it? People hate grinding. Please say this isn't going to be more
of the same crap. If it is, I suggest you hurry up on the combat revamp and the
GCW push, otherwise your not going to lose just me and the members of my guild but
your going to lose many more, with so many games coming out soon.
Just my thoughts.
Thank you
Digi
people grind to get rid of the proffesion as fast as possible and become master or get the badge and drop it as soon as possible i think its pretty stupid cause instead of having fun they put really hard work into something that isnt much fun
