Answer this simple question please. How will wearing armor help you in piloting ? Unless you will use new /eject option that will let you float in space wearing robocop composite suit and weild the DE10 while taking pot shots at enemy fighters.

i am often aggro'ed exiting the starport by the unsavory lot who hangs about on the frnges. as a master pilot/master shipwright, i usually travel about in composite armor to survive such encounters. that will no longer be a possibility, unfortunately.

it would be nice if we could have a flight suit that provided a modicum of protection from such assaults.

no, wait, i saw this game... "pong" i think it was called. it was really easy to understand! maybe you could make swg more like pong! think of it! fast paced action! iconic characters! MORE FUN!

Good points. Well I can't argue much about it anymore, I'm more of a "take it and go with it" person. Instead this is the way I see were going to have to adapt. Its like that old old song that goes "I get knocked down, but I get up again, your never going to keep me down."

The choice at least for accessability lies in the hands of the owners now. They can choose to stay out in no where or move, which can be a pain. If they can't stand it thats fine, I know one person who left a city because they didnt want to give up all thier hard work when they had to move for city cleanup. But the benefits of moving, like to a player city, is a near to no death garuntee on traveling.

Now to acutally get stuff and mine things or pick up from miners, you got me there. If players are unwilling to help its going to be a real detriment and were all going to degrade eventually, but maybe that could be a good thing, makes it more challanging, but has the possiblity of cutting us off from higher level activities.

And the gimpy armor changes aren't all of it either, the AI is being changed to increase agro and swarming!! That creature sitting at the doorstep of your merchant tent will remember that it hates YOU and it's friends will want to jump into the game too!!

I agree. But this is a lot how it was like when the game first came out, you could run into your house from 4 tusk cats out on rori, and 3 hours later they havnt moved. So I've gone through all this before, so its not that big a deal for me. But I agree, its freaking annoying.

Heres a thing I've been thinking about though:

I think this SOE's thinking pattern: Okay, lets make the game, I want this type of player. *Later they find that its not how they wanted the game to be* Hmm, the player I wanted to attract is hurting the game from my point of view, and I have the support of a few people which should back me. *CU comes in* Okay, from the looks of it, the CU will be successful in driving out this group of players, now It will focus on this group of players and help towards what I wanted it to be. Hopefully it will attract this breed of players now, which in theory should move the game to how I envisioned it works.

As to the hero thing we are discussing, I think that if I veiwed myself as a hero then I agree. The reason why I don't really agree is because SWG to me never ever made me feel like a hero. I just felt like that average joe who just went a little farther than the rest but didn't hang out with Luke Skywalker long enough to get involved in the death star run.

Real simple to answer (for the second time), armor allows me to make it to the vendors to by the weapons and missile packs needed to be a good pilot. Or if I've chosen to taking the crafting path to suppliment my piloting (name shipwright so I can build my own weapons and missile packs), then I'll need either harvesters or to get to resource vendors - both of which are dangerous. You have to think outside the box!! How did you even get into space in the first place? You aquired the a ship and then you had to aquire a better ship and so on and so forth. Good piloting begins on the ground!!

If amerchant is foolish enough to put his shop in a dangerous place, he deserves less business. Maybe the CU will have the added benefits of getting merchants to move into Player cities, and kill the ugly urban sprawl.

Since you're giving your answers again, I'll give mine. These issues aremarginal to JtL itself at best. They have nothing to do with a pilot doing his job. There are better places for Merchant/Crafter/Shipwright problems you might have with armor on the ground, than a thread about pilots in a forum about the space side of the game.

There's a pretty good reason it hasn't really come up before in here or Pilot. It's not because you've tapped some great unfound nerve, it's because most of us have known to post in the actual relevant fora for the topic. We're not unsympathetic to the issue, it's just not in the context of this forum.

And I thought the crafters complaining about armour was bad...this definitely takes the cake.

I'm also a MSW/Mpilot, and not once have I ever had a problem with having no armour. Don't use buffs either.

I am a Rebel Ace and a Master Shipwright and I've been wearing armor while i run errands on teh ground. I'm also a merchant so I occasionally take trips to the village. I have always relied on armor to protect me. When moving about on teh ground. A person not wearing armor now with a lvl 1 combat rating will be almost insta killed by very low level creatures, never mind the stuff you'll find on dathomir. If I see an engine I want in some city on lok and getting then invovles getting past lots of dangerous creatures I'd like ot have some armor. Pilot/shipwright whatever, I don't think you are considering the fact that now most creatures can insta kill low level players (LIKE PILOTS) on the ground who are just trying to shop around. We get and Ace jacket and a Helmet. How about those provide some protection? The jacket looks pretty sturdy and I hope the helmet sure is. Mabye they could just give us some basic items that will keep us alive while shopping.

Wrong forum, and you have other issues to worry about besides armor if you are getting incapped on your way to harvestors/shops.

If you can't overcome those issues there's probably alot of things youre going to have problems with in this game.

Should the gamechange even though many other people have found a way to deal with it? I'm confused, wouldn't their ability to deal with it make them better merchants or pilots, you said "it all starts on the ground"? So you want to be as good as them... butwithout some of the work?

I logged in yesterday, level 1. Went to dathomir science outpost. Called my swoop and went to the village. Didn't group, nor used a PSG. Made it to the village and back in one piece. It took longer then normally 'cause I had to drive around the red dots but it was doable.

If that can be done on dathomir, I'm sure shopping on other planets won't present any problems.

Just because it's doable doesn't mean it's ok. what is the point of keep pilots from having some form or protection on the ground. The only thing this is going to do is make it less enjoyable for pilots on the ground. I see no reason not ot give them basic protections with the ace jacket and helmet at the very least!?

I know I'm going to be able to swerve around red dots and if I take my time I can do it but I don't think it's adding anything to the game so why have it? Just give pilots some basic flight gear that has some sort of protection.

It isn't a solo game anymore. It's back to basics and you'll have to make choices.

  1. Hire a bodyguard.

  2. Invest skillpoints in a combat prof.

  3. Suck it up and drive around the red dots with your fingers crossed. Clear line of fire seems to be active for the mobs too, so with good use of the terrain you'll be able to to dodge a lot.

Don't forget, the merchant needs to stock his store has the same problems. Wouldn't be surprised if in 2 or 3 months most have moved to a player city or another safe spot.

Do those 3 points add anything to the game? Or just create time sinks?

Who wants to be a bodyguard and follow someone around for about 30 min hoping to see some action?

I realize this isn't a game breaking change but it's a step in the wrong directions. It makes it more difficult to enjoy the game for no reason.

As a pure crafter, you can always group with a level 80 person and you'll be brought up to their level (in HP and damage mitigation if the system is working right).

They don't even have to travel with you.

That is a DAMN good idea. Have the helmet and jacket give at least kinetic and energy protection if nothing else. Really good idea. It'd be nice if the flight suits had a bit of an armor rating or a Deffence mod of some kind and be wearable under jackets. There is some new deffence fabric out that tailors can use. Not sure if they can put those deffense bonuses into flight suits though.

For me I've always had TK 4000 so I could heal my wounds after getting shot down. Now I respec'd to TKM/MSmuggler so I can have some deffence and a few pistol shots to help me cut and run if need be. Feign Death is always nice to have too when out shopping on Lok.
