I think the whole fast transit is pretty cool just for the fact thatI used to becursed with missing shuttles every single time and having to wait 5 mins for the next one. I do see your point however in the fact it takes away from space flight feel. In regards to those who would just bypass the battle by teleporting, well, they would be the direct reason as to why thier faction lost the battle and the opposing forceis now stronger on the ground . For the simple fact they didn't fight.

you know what i would genuinely love, but most people would really hate? having to find a pilot to ferry you from place to place. i mean that was how this whole thing started remember? finding a pilot in that wretched hive of scum and villany, arguging over transport prices, etc.

i know the infrastructure isnt really there for this, and it would be gigantic source of discontent, and probably in the end, be a frustrating experience so i'm not advocating it's inclusion.

i suppose if they made places in the game that would require you to fly to, like space stations etc. you would have to recruit a pilot to take you there. that'd be a way to have the best of both worlds i suppose.

Yes it is very convenient to be able to 'teleport' from pleanet to planet, but what you are saying would give us a more star wars feel to the game. For example: I buy a ticket to another planet, but instead of spawning on the other planet I spawn an the transport which is being inspected for contraband by imperials, or being attacked by pirates. This is something in Ep IV braught up by Han Solo, "Even I get boarded sometimes...", I like the idea. Even though it would lengthen the game, but if they added those ideas it definatly would give Galaxies the "Star Wars feel"

Way back in the day, I beta'd EQ1 and played it for about 6 months after release. I'm sure everyone who played it remembers getting on a boat, and traveling for maybe 5-10 minutes before reaching the other island. This idea could be implemented in transporting from planet to planet. You load on the transport and can walk around, looking out the viewports at other players in their ships, then jump to lightspeed, watch the mottled sky for awhile, then starlines fade back into stars and you're there. While this would slow things down and probably piss off a lot of players, you have to admit it would do wonders for the immersion factor. Okay, so you could no longer speed warp from planet to planet, but it would feel more like a real, fleshed out world.

P.S. Don't one-star me because you disagree with the idea. Star ratings in the forums are abused enough as it is.

Generally, I agree. The ground and space games should be instituted into one experience. However, as you pointed out, it would be rather annoying to be forced to launch into space, travel, then land, instead of just loading to another planet.

that's what the travel button is for... straight planet to planet travel

For people who want it to be more Star Warsy by making us fly from planet to planet, I'd point out that uncle Lucas himself handled lots of planetary scene transitions with just a screen wipe. If the travel wasn't important to the story, it got cut.

I proposed this some time ago here and then reposted it on the GCW board:

In proposing things like that please keep in minf the playability aspect of the game. Going through the actual space travel for 10 minutes might be cool the first few times you do it. Eventually it will become a boringtime sink.

For those wishing to experience this aspect of the game, you canintroduce missions (smuggler missions?) that would require you to take off, navigate a set of waypoints in your current system with possible itercepts by NPCs, then jump to your destination and possibly navigate another set of waypoints prior to landing.

Well it all depends on how you implement it... I am very fond of mision based solutions. Imagine this:

1. The current travel system remains in place as is.

2. SOE Allows players without JTL to become passengers on MP ships.

3. A player on planet X goes to a special mission terminal and takes a special mission. The mission requires explicit space travel. The players can fly themselves or hire a transport. You take off (either in you ship or a hired ship) then go through a series of encounters with challenge level based on the level of the mission (some missions may be tough enough to require an entire squadron of ships to overcome). When you land on the destination planet it spawns a waypoint for the ground mission but only if the space encounters were properly handled.

Obviously missions like this would need to provide a reward signifficant enough to make people want to deal with the hastle.

They should leave the option to travel or launch. But they should improve launch by allowing atmospheric flight on launch and landing. I know this probably won't happen for years, but it would be great to bust into the atmosphere of Tatooine, fly over Mos Eisley and actually land at the starport.

SWG 2 will get it right.....

If there is an SWG2 reguardless of this ones faults I will be there too. I love Starwars too damn much to just leave it. This game is still awsome even though it fustrates me. Its still enjoyable when your not trying to grind.
