Thread: Make MP ships useful in combat

Adding modifiers like that just complicates things which creates more bugs and work, its much easier just to add more armor and shield slots, then maybe beef up crafted level 9 reactors to compensate for the extra needed power. Then have a global % reduction applied to all ships.

They could either just have multiple MP ship shields make a total HP, or have seperate slots for front a back like armor with seperate repair panels (which would be the most interestingI think).

Well, not to be rude or anything, but in JtL, MP ships are abot the same size as a starfighter. Park the YT-1300 near an X-Wing and they're both about the same size.
The Devs really screwed up on the size of MP ships. They're way too small... or maybe starfighters are too big. But either way, the size is way off. Not at all big enough for people to walk around inside.
I think it sucks. It doesn't give the feeling you're flying in a big ship. I wish the Devs would go back and simply stretch the MP shiptextures out, and make them bigger.

Hmm I think some fighters are to big, if you look at the size of a B-wing next to an X-wing, the B-wing is smaller but it supposed to be quite a bit bigger. Tie fighters are fricking huge. The neutral ships are even worse, most of their fighters are as big as a nova courier which not good because they get hit a lot more often.

The MP ships are to scale, they have to be so you can walk around inside them so they are sized around the player character.

Hmmm... I'm not really sure if they are to scale. When you're in third-person flying around in an MP ship, the interior isn't inside the ship. It's just the ship, like if you were flying a starfighter. But once you leave the station, the interior loads as something of an instanced room. So the outside of the ship isn't necessarily scaled to suit the character's size.
But if they are to scale, then starfighters are way too big. I flew past a TIE Bomber in my Nova Cruiser last night, and the Bomber was almost as big as my ship.

The inside of a ship is like a house on the ground, the rooms inside have to fit within the model perfectly. When you look out of the ship window what you see is the real game world, so its not instanced (people cant look back in because the inside isnt rendered for people outside, otherwise it would be to CPU hungry).

Therefor the MP ships are scaled ok, but some of the fighters are a bit off. When you see those x-wing models on the ground they are nowhere near as huge as the ones in space. Sometimes you can see player characters floating in space from a MP ship escape pod bug, drive up next to one and see the scale. I'd saysome the fighters need to be shrunk by about 20-25% (a few seem to be the right size, such as the Z-95)

I just reached 3333 as a privateer and look forward to being able to fly the YT-1300 soon. I have a couple of comments after reading this thread:

1. At the end of EP4, the Falcon sweeps in and blows up the ships following Luke during his attack runand the view switched from the exploding fighters to the Falcon coming out out of the sun glare and then to Han and Chewie IN the Falcon's cockpit! TheYT-1300 CAN be used as a fighter without having the turrets manned and should be modeled this way in JTL.

2. It would seem that the MP ships right now are simply easter eggs or eye candy - a way to enable people who likeparties to have a viable JTL experience together and weren't meant to be actually used in the same manner at the non-MP ships. A bone thrown to the hardcore 'community' players (I play solo mostly - my schedule prevents me from doing a lot of social stuff in the game, I'm rarely on at the same time of the day and have long stretches where I am not able to log on at all). It's disapointing to know that all my hardwork to qualify to fly the YT-1300 will be in vain since it's more window dressing than a viable tool for my pilot to use! So there isn't anything at the end of the struggle to tier 5??

3. There were many times that the Falcon joined in the melee during the movies and as pointed out in 1 above was able to hold it's own against one man starfighters. While it wasn't as manuverable as the smaller craft,it was nimble for it's size and could take quite a bit more damage as well. The problem is real simple and doesn't take adding extra stations for shields, capacitors and such. Nor does it take applying a modifier to the ship's operations. It simply takes making components that require the mass of a MP ship to mount that give the ship the duability that one could expect. In the ship history on the SWG website it says that the maker of the YT-1300 made a MINT off of selling upgrade packages. Why aren't these in the game? The shipright who can build the YT-1300 SHOULD be able to make the upgrade package as well. And there should be variable upgrade packages for different needs (ie- keep the operation needing multiple stations manned, or convert the shipso it can be flown as aone-man job - better flight computer comes to mind here - selectable autotracking, player operatedor fixed turrets depending on programming, etc). All this could be done without having to make any major changes to the game and actually make sense in how it would operate. So what if the shield alone has as much mass at the fully outfitted Ixiyen!!

4. Need to be able to dock and board MP ships from either single ships or other MP ships. Ideally, the ships being vacated would stay where they are and a waypoint would be added to the pilot's datapad. Then he can leave with the others and come back later and pick up his ship. If he dies, he ends up on the ground (same as an ejection) and his ship is also grounded at the same starport. On returning the MP ship can dock with the unmanned craft and the pilot can transfer back. THAT would be cool!

-- "I don't play this game because I WANT to play with other people, I play this game because every time I log in, the universe is different BECAUSE it is constantly being changed by other people (this is the basic way any Soloist thinks, if you understand it you understand WHY someone would pay the same money as someone who likes to group but instead chooses to solo)! Multi-Player is what brings the SWG world alive (real people, other players, make SWG so wonderfully dynamic). I just don't treat SWG like it was a chat room, I don't play to socialize and I resent forced grouping!"

I agree, it would be really cool to make the MP ships more meaningful in combat.

The simplest would be to have just some multipliers for some of the ship components
you install. Like...

Weapon damages x3 (min and max) Also don't think this should apply to missiles
Shield hit points x3
Shield recharge x3
Armor hit points x3

That was getting 3-4 people together in a MP ships would be worth the while instead
of everyone flying his own ship. Because in the current state of MP ships going with
3 ships vs 1 mp ship gives you just soo much more firepower.

Also I think adding these multipliers is a lot simpler than adding more components, so
maybe they could try that?

Well my two cents

There are many creative suggestions here, all of which seem like good fixes. I like the idea of a simple fix to the shield proble so I would like to suggest this.

Simply make Cert 10 shields worth something. I have looted over 30 Cert 10 shields and not a single one could compair to the Cert 8 "Reward Shield" from the quests. The cert 10 shields currently have arround 50k mass and average less than 2k front/back protection.

MP ships are my favorite ships in the game, but they cannot dodge, and are big targets, yet use the same shields as starfighters. IMO the easiest fix is to gear big shields to the big ships.
