Why do all you people want 2 multi-pass ships, if the number of ships we are alowed is 3 why would you want 2 of them to be multi-pass? What is the point of having 2 of them someone plz tell me. i am only going to have 1 and thats the yacht why i hear you cry why not have a combat multi-pass ship, well it is simple some one else will have one and if i want to have combat in space in a multi-pass ship i will find a mate with one.

Because the vet ship cant be used in combat

So your all going to pilot your mutli-pass combat ships on your own? you and your mates will not in fact go 1-3 ships depening on how many people you have with you, you going to have a multi-pass combatship for each person?

You do knowhow silly that sounds.

Heres one idea some one had use the ship to transport your mates around, what would you rather do stand around for 5 mins waiting for shuttle or just fly straight there in the yacht.

ok after reading the whole 16 pages I have to reply as well...

first of all a big BIG up for the artteam and the yacht!

I think that the most people think that it is ok that tha yacht is no combat ship and cant be attacked!

But this database problems you see with the MP ships sounds some kind of the cheapest way to slove it...

If this is only a Storage Problem then I wonder what are we paying for?? <- not for the development (you should get that in at launch) but for maintence and that includes a better server and a biger DB when and if needed!!!

But the fact that we cant do something possible couse of HDD space and server performence cant be! (I cant say to my costumers "sorry our HDD is full you cant save your data and it will not be backedup" that would kill my job)

I mean JTLgot me back to SWG and I realy likewhat I see in beta so far specialy to fly around with a friend in a MP and I loved the Idea to replace my house with a ship like the yacht (wich is so beautifull) but the fact that I cant LAUNCH an other MP if the yacht has items in it is just inacceptable you have to find a better workaround, a lot of good Ideas have been said so far.

I also know that you got a realy close Deadline for the release so I still hope this is only a temporary thingbut the day the first person on a live server gots Master Pilot this has to be sloved!!!

Dont get me wrong I'm no hater or flamer (and realy cant have this kind of dudes who always think that you reprograme thewhole game just becouse they want to)

sorry for my bad english cya live orangebutton

TH,

you really need to tell the SWG Project Manager to sack your Database developers. Throughout my time in this game I have heard aboutnothing but terrible fundamental errors with your database design and this is yet another one. Don't give us this "technical limitations" nonsense because it's simply not true.

The company I work for has Oracle databases that hold information about Nuclear Plants and most of this information is legacy stretching back 50 years or so. For each plant every single thing is stored, even down to individual pipes (i.e. supplier, material, positioning, etc). I know full well what the extent of database storage can be so your excuses don't wash.

The SWG development team seem incapable of realising even the most basic fundamentals or relational database design, so here's a lesson to pass on to your developers.

Let's call this Lesson 1: Relational DB basics.

tablePlayers
playerID
playerName

tableItemsPlayers
itemPlayersID
itemTypeID
playerID
LocationID

tableItemType
itemTypeID
itemType

tableLocations
LocationID
LocationName
LocationTypeID

tableLocationTypes
LocationTypeID
LocationTypeName

So now we have a list of players, and items are related to a player and items are in a particular location - simple huh?.

So we could have a location type of YT-1300, one of Sorosub, one of small house, one of back pack and so on. My item of Small Chair 1 is in my YT-1300, whilst small chair 2 is in the Sorosub.... kinda simple huh?

And before you jump to defend this accusation, explain why when someone had to change their in-game name, they couldn't keep all their items? In a relational database that name change should only affect a value in one table and not the relations between tables.

Instead of saying things can't be done, why can't SOE just bloody hire people who know what they're doing.

Absolutely unbelievable.

As a database developer (albeit a medicore one ), I think you're over-simplifying the issue greatly, but you're spot on about the table referencing being done by an ID rather than the actual name. The fact it seems to store all player information against the name is worrying - an alphanumeric item of data such as a name is larger than a simple numeric ID, which only has10 possible characters per character (if that makes sense ) and can be restricted to a fixed length. This difference may seem irrelevant for one player name, but if we assume that every item you own, every skill you posses, every POI you have stored etc. is stored as a seperate entry in a relevant table, then multiply that by the number of players, then multiply that by the number of different 'versions' of each table (based on keys) and you have a lot of wasted database space. It would seem.I'm not an especially advanced developer, but as you say Ymo, this is Database Basics 101.

Even if we put all that aside, changing a key peice of data should always update the related data in other tables.

And I only bothered with that because Sony expect me to pay outrageous shipping fees to get the new speeder - could you honestly look any of us Europeans in the eye and tell us we get a fair deal SOE?

What skills will be required to pilot the yacht?

Also, how many passengers will be allowed on the yacht at a time?

Can we load the yacht into space with passengers without being able to pilot it, just to simply hang out inside around a starport?

Hey TH, did you think of us Game Card People at all. I have had to use a game card to play beings as my financial situation has never been stable. If not it kind of sucks. You should look beyond the fact that a person has paid with a credit card for 6 months and also look at the fan clud registration for the forums also. Beings as we get a rank for over the certain ammount of time posting on the forums. That should account for something also.

Just my 2 cents.

In the JTL FAQ it clearly states that ONLY Neutral players will be allowed to pilot the YT-1300, so that's going to cut out a LOT of people, who are faction-oriented, from having the problem of having to deal with moving stuff from one MP ship to another.

IOW, Until they come up with faction-related MP ships, this is then a moot point. Rebels and Imps won't get to fly the YT-1300. Period.

Sorry if this has been asked before but....

Will the Yacht count against my 2 ship limit or is it considered "special" since it's a non-combat ship? My goal is to have a Black Sun Heavy Type 4 and a YT-1300 in the datapad, would be a pitty if i had to get rid of my yacht to make this happen.

Its a 3 ship limit.

CRUD!!!! Oh gosh i was out for like 30 days, please tell me since i have poured hundreds of dollars into galaxies that i dont get tha dang ship because i was off for 30 days??? if so i hate to be a pain but that is rediculous. You should base the vet system on who has been on for 6 months at 1 time, not in the last 6 months.
