Could we please stop whining about the datapad thing? Don't you have any imagination? Here's how it could work:

You go up to a starship hangaremployee or terminal. Within his/its radius you can either activate your ship from his/its radial menu or from your datapad. A countdown begins until your spacecraft is available. You then can either walk up to it and enter, or perhaps you just load a cutscene and off you go.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you'll walk up to an empty hangar, open your datapad, select your ship, and voila! its magically in front of you. Maybe they'll even have it come in and land. It's certainly possible, they've already got the Imperial Shuttles programmed to land on AI alone. Yeesh, use some imagination. Yeah it'll suck if it is the former way, but you can't just assume it's going to be that way.

p.s. Thank GOD for twitchy. Will be nice to finally have some skill involved in combat.

Yes, having an actual hangar you had to walk through to get to your ship might be neat. The first time. For the first person. But how exactly are 1000 ships going to be docked in Bestine? Is the starport going to stretch to Mos Taike? Will you have to take a shuttle to get from your ship to the starport entrance?

People complain constantly about waiting for shuttles, do you really think they want to be toldthat they're in a 15 minute holding pattern behind everyone else who wants to land? Or evenworse being told that the starport is full, try another city.

I've very excited about the twitchy style combat. I would not play a space sim that is any other kind. Earth and Beyond lasted for 3 days on my computer.

I've very .... ? Ok....explains alot....

Anyway are you serious? Going by that interview this will be Earth andBeyond added to Star Wars. Nothing else. Now other hints that was thrown in previous sound more exciting than this mindless shooting.

Has anyone thought this through? The ship will cost you a ton of credits. You still have to cantina to reduce battle fatigue. You still have to pay for maintenance. You have to buy fuel cells. You have to pay like crazy to keep this ship up. Each fight you do you will be payout out your back side meaning you will have to run a lot of missions to keep up your twitch habit. This isn't going to be what everyone thinks it's going to be. That's what I'm TRYING to point out. People just see the space battle and have peed themselves. They forget all the other stuff that goes with it.

On that note too, I want to see the ability to walk around in the ship. I want to see the ability for players to have large ships. PVP can fly up a monkey's crack, I want to see player having ships that should have a ton of power to have that power. I want to see thefollow command be applied to ships so a leader can fly people around and stay in formation (you KNOW there NO WAY that people can hold a true formation other than this, plus it will fix the problem for those who can't handle the controls). I want to see a lot of stuff here. I know what can be done but in reply to most of it we'll be told "it can't be done due to lag, lack of technology, or whatever we at Sony can think of".

Yeah I'm posting a lot here because those who also have a voice are opting to just one start posts instead of get in the middle of it. I'll be the voice of those one starers if I have to as the happy giddy twitch fans are just posting happy happy joy joy posts without much thought. There are a few posts in here that has thought behind it. There needs to be more of that instead of "I can't read and bought this without reading the three letters RPG, so can't you rework this whole game to suit me?"

Earth and Beyond was nothing like XvT, so how can you say EB will be like SE? EB was horrid game design as far as combat went. Devs are doing it right if they use XvT engine as an example to go by. Again EB was just horrid.

Now I understand if you are actually referring to the maintenance aspect of it. Yes, that could hinder the fun if your spending a ton to maintain the craft. Just have to see where the Devs go with this and have fatih.

How about a generic looking hanger setting like in Theed. When you access the datapad you get more of a feeling of using a remote access instead of having this inflatable ship that pops out and you got a load screen that shows you now in space? It could be a new building and operate about like the garages except you actually can walk in if you want just for the "hanger launch feel". But proximity launches would be fine. Major cities, the developers and art team could just add on to the starport. Problem is they just want a cut and paste environment.

I can understand why they do not want players to have access to fly themselves into space because so many will be buzzing other players as they already make it a point to steer straight at players doing a mission just to be cute "running the other player over". Or whatever they think. It would look rediculous seeing all these LEET DOODs buzzing the city every day as we all know they would. A load screen that's an animation showing you leaving the planet would be cool instead of the scroll bar. It can be done and would have a better over all feel.

I noticed that if you attend the Fan Fest, there is an opportunity to sign up for the expansion beta.

I hope that people who don't have the time/money to fly out to CA aren't penalized when beta slots are filled...

Even IF, and that's IF they use the engine, it won't be the same game as XvT. But I guess you'll have to wait and see. You bought the game seeing RPG on the box but you decided to wait til you got home to see what the game was like. Earth and Beyond was an RPG also. Yeah the game was terrible, but think of why it was terrible and apply it to your thought of this game. Take your PvP experiance on the game right now and apply it to space. Even though a particular thread might make you think everyone is lining up to PvP in space or on the ground, it's pretty few and far between. There's no payout to engage in it to begin with, and there will be "space missions". Besides an imaginary notch in your belt is no payout at all when you have to pay all the costs to repair and fix your ship. Player kill badges or something would make sense.

Read some of the stuff that's being said about Lineage 2 with the open combat also for a little extra of over all game reflection besides what some of the posts reflect. Over all is more important and makes or breaks versusa hand full ofpeople posting.

im very impressed by what i saw. looking very sweet

Correct me if im wrong but i read that your concentrating on the fighters more right now? i hope thats only temporary..I'd like to see more freighters in the space expansion..just one style COR freighter wouldn't be enough..

and just one request ......please please please get all the pre existing star wars ships up and running before creating new ship designs. there is more than enough reference out there.

--> You dock to a space station that has docking terminal = you dont have it in datapad but have to return to the exact same space station to fly out with your ship again ! (this only improves the game as i can see it ? and should be such a lag issue) and! then people just wont be able to pull out a x-wing from their pants and fly away! that would be lame!

But this is just my idea for a great solution =)

--------------------------------------------------------

I thought of this too and although it would be good and probbably the best way to do it, the station would have to be HUGE, imgaine 100, 200 maybe ever 300 ships at peak time, all trying to land at once, they all had a landing pad it would be unrealistic. What i think its more likiely and a better way is to have to take a shuttle from the starport to a space station, from there you can speak to a guy who basically just sends you to your ship if you have one, a loading screen pops up and then you appear outside in your craft of choise.

Not pretty, not as fun, but realistic in terms of coding, lag and the fact that this is a MMO and as such contains WAY too many people to make landing plausable.

JediMan, remember thatpeople posting here are SWG subscribers, so I'm sure they're aware that this willstill be an RPG.

In terms of speculation, that's all it is right now, "speculation". Based on my experiences with the game as is, there's a good chance I willhave issues with the SE, let's just hope they are minor.
