The X-wing is great but its only great with lvl 7 parts so get components first.

I would say get 2/3/2/2 first. From experiance it is a really good idea to get better equipment. The better the equipment the better your ship is. I've loaded down my Y-wing with lvl 7 components and i can take out most tier 2 in about 3 shots. (Longprobe rocks, for a Y-wing)

to have the equipment first is nice of cause .. but at tier3 you only have to do a misson to get the next teachingof a skill-box, so it does not realy take a long time until you get the next skill
