I've not yet aced but I've found that getting the equipment slot first is always the best way to go. Especially for Rebels as you can really tank up the Y-Wings.

Take components block till your 3/3/3/3. at tier 4 you should go ahead and get 4/3/3/3. I say this cause you cant outfit your ship with all tier 3 components till your flying a tier 4 ship due to mass. the level difference in components isnt that much to worry about at that time in your pilot career.

Trust me, I was the first tier 4 pilot on Gorath...and I made in in 2 days of JTL because I went by that system

For Freelancer or Imperial I agree, but the Tier IV rebel ship is actually the lightest of the bunch. For Alliance, always, always, ALWAYS get the Equipment tree first. It can literally allow you to double your shields and weaponry output.

I don't know... I wanted to get out of that slow Y so bad that I had to get the xwing first. The gained speed and added weapons make up for the components. Not to mention it only took me 20 minutes to get the next boxed filled once I had my x.

Sounds like you were feeling the same way that I am Mallize. How did you manage to get 200kxp in 20 minutes? Driving my Y-Wing Longprobe bus is just soooooooooooooooooooo frustrating. I have decent weapons and a 62 top speed 58/59 RPY engine, it is just a pain to stay on target with my slow ship. Also, I'm having trouble finding a good spot to grind. All the duty missions that I've been able to get are giving me either 400 xp or 1200 xp per kill. Any recommendations on where to go?

you can actually get 3/3/3/3 in under 1 hour since all tier 3 boxes require NO xp at all, just have to do the NPC missions. You might need some backup from friends tho for some of them, becasue they tend to get a bit difficult at times.

I say do 2-3-2-2 first...at this level, it will be easy to get 3-3-2-2 in no time.....and yes all tier 3 training is free....they are trained through finishing missions.

As a rebel pilot, it's not that important that you get the chassis line first when your starting or in the middle of tier 3 missions. The equipment line is far more important if you plan to fly solo...if your gonna take a buddy or two along then getting the ships first is ok because you won't be taking a lot of fire. the reason you want to get the equipment line first is because all missions will have you facing opponents that are 1 tier above you (very rarely 2 levels above you), you'll constantly be outnumbered and until you get some engines that's in the 80's for speed, you won't be outrunning or outmanuevering any imp ships anyway....

Also, the higher level reb ships have a lot less mass and you'll have to sacrifice in something. You won't be able to have high speed and manueverability and high damage output at the same time. So you'll probably have to drop some components that you either don't use or downgrade to a lower level, lower mass component.....but lower level components will start to become ineffective...some more so than others.

****EDIT**** had to shorten it up....toooooo long!!!! LOL basically though, the components are a lot better than the chassis are....like I said, flying solo means you need the best components you can get.....if in a group, then it doesn't matter so much.

Thanks for the advice guys! Sounds like I'll be sticking with the plan that I've been using so far. Components tree first.

Only problem with this is when you hit tier 4. level8+ components are typically too heavy to fit into the x-wing or a-wing [they'll fit, but you'll have to sacrifice other parts of your ship]. However, you could make a killer y-wing tank.

x-wing it's the BEST thing that has EVER happened to me as a pilot

you won't need lvl 6-7 parts if you get an x-wing first, as long as the parts you got are acceptional

Well, I got components first and within an hour got the X-wing box. Now I just need to get components to fill out both my Longprobe and X-wing so I can choose the appropriate airframe for the mission at hand. Thanks for the advice everyone.
