You will probally hate it but here does.

Give players misions where the mission determins which craft you can fly. For example:

Rebel campaign: We are setting up a large campaign in the Kessel system. However we must not aleart the Empire as to our intent. Therefore we will be running missions in Z-95's and Y-Wing's. Once we have estabilished a presance in the system we will then bring in our heavier ships.

Rebel mission: Your mission is to disable a small Imperial Space Station. The Z-95's will take out any fighter suport in the area whilst the Y-Wings will disable the Space Station. Once the station has been disabled a small landing crew will board the station and take it over. This will enable us to opperate out of the area without first alerting the Empire to a large Rebel presenace.

The mission would need multiple pilots to complete, atleast 12 or so, 8 in Z-95's and 4 in Y-Wings. The player could choose which rollthey wish to play Fighter or Bomber and thay would only be allowed to take the mission if the had the appropriate ship in there datapad. Some missions could also pit players against players.

I got this idea from the old X-Wing Vs.TIE Fighter games where you had campaigns and depending on the mission it would effect which craft you could use. Don't you think it would be cool if every couple of months we got a new campaign to play. Also depending on the sucess of the campaign it could effect things in the GCW.

Yeah, they had that in some of the other Lucas Arts titles....

... and I hated it then too. I can't count the times I got stuck flying that brick of a Y-wing, getting blown up again and again, muttering the whole while: "If I were in my x-wing, you'd all be dead right now!"

You would be flying your own ship. You just wouldn't be able to take certainmissions if you did not have the correct ship. So if you looked at a mission that said A-Wing or Y-Wing required and you only had an X-Wing you would not be able to take the mission. So you could just look for another mission which required an X-Wing.

You may have hated it I liked it, I found the challenge of it fun. Also no one would force you to take missions in ships you didn't like, you could look for missions which require the ships you wish to fly. Personally I would just go for any mission as I have most of the ships and room for 1more in my datapad. I should go buy a heavy Z-95 Although... I would like the Y-8 and ARC too :/ And I should probally switch my Y-Wing for a Longprobe.
