Thread: Should a BH be able to pursue a Jedi into space?

Space bounties will not happen on jedi. I am sure the interface b/t land bounties and space is all borked. If a seeker cannot work on the expansion planet I am sure bounties cannot ever work in space. And if it were possible for Kash seekers or space bounties to work the almight developers would have made it happen. So many people have asked and suggested this...it is a flaw in the programming/programmers or shortsightedness or whatever. It will not happen because it flows with logical sense and would actually make the game better.

Untill these4 things are fixed in space such a thing would be pointless:

1. Most PvP kills are 1-2 hits.

2. No real skill is required just someone with the best ship and better engine stats.

3. Space PvP consists of flying in a very tight circle untill one of the paticipants lucks out and hits the other.

4. People can just go into hyper space. If the Jedi had to flee to a certain location before they could hyper to get away then that would be more interesting. I think it would be cool to have to properly flee to lose the Bounty Hunter, trying your best to avoid shots whilst heading to a certain point, hoping your shields hold out long enough for you to get there because you know that if you actually engaged the Bounty Hunter in star fighter combat you would lose.

Cool idea, but if you do that then the Jedi will scream that they whould be able to expand Force aura to surround their ship. Then we'll just have a bunch of invincible ships flying around...

you are wrong on3 of 4 countsand obviously don't pvp much if at all.so why comment on it? space pvp is fast and furious, takes great amounts of skill and can be done and done well with any ship andwith medicore equipment. think i'm wrong?prove it and come to a server that actually has some PVP.just because you are sorely inadequate doesn't mean you have to be so negative about it.

as for the topic at hand, there's only 1 reason to say no to this:

if you have bounties in space then you'll have jedi bonuses in space too. do we really want to see jedi get advantages in their ships in space? i don't.

That does indeed seem to be the case, however there's a precident now which gives me a bit of hope. For nearly two years the dev said radar invisibility would "never" happen because of the potential for it being exploited by 3rd party programs. Although now, Rifleman has it as a tier 1 skill, and Jedi's have it too. So, sometimes somethings will get worked out.

I would have said wrong on 4 of 4. Well, #1 may be true, but that goes to the best pilot. As for #2 - you must not PVP at all, or you're the cat who's being towed to the station. Skill plays a big part in space. Actually, skill is just about hte only part. #2 - Yeah, lock yourself in a tight circle and hope for luck. Enjoy the free tow to the station while other pilots are manuevering around you. As for #4, hyperspace jumps take time, and when your ship suddenly stops turning for that final countdown, you get (you guessed it) another free trip to the nearest station! No free trip out there, at least not one that's a permanent escape. But Mr. Harper likes to make inexperienced points, although there is a fun idea for hyperspace points buried in #4.

As to hunting Jedi - Jedi are safe in space because space has nothing to do with the Jedi grind. Their powers don't work, they can't convert space XP, and that's an important sepparation. Many of us fly to get away from the Jedi mess on the ground, lets just keep it out of space all together. All you have to do is peek into one of the nonsense threads titled, "Space Xp should convert to FS XP!!!111!" to see how much we do NOT want to deal with the Jedi mess in space.

You do propose an interesting PVP system though, and it sounds fun. Just don't tie it to the Jedi. Incorporate it somehow into a GCW vision for space, and I think folks will jump on board.

OT - lol yeah it's almost comical. i love the pilots who say "it takes no skill" as if you don't have to aim to actually hit your opponent. then when you do aim and shoot and score a hit. "oh it was a lucky shot." people who think pvp is too fast now, are flying b-wings with crappy crafted engines, oblivious to optimum throttle turn rates, oblivious to the warnings players get when pilots approach them and oblivious to group tactics.

the sad part is they can influence other pilots who haven't tried it yet.

back on topic: a mechanic for "space bounties" would be awesome, but i think no decay on PVP death would have to be eliminated before something like this were proposed. note that the current bounty system doesn't take skill level into account when awarding a bounty to a hunter. there's no reason that it needs to be a "fair fight" in space as well.

And that is why I feel the need to refute every stupid thing said about space PVP! Next thing you know we'll have a "rebalance" brought on by the people who don't even play in space regularly.

*Sigh* You are right I do not PvP much but thats only because JtLS is totaly dead on my server. I have managed to have a total of 3 PvP battles on Tempest since JtLS came out.

1. The guy cheated. We were both sat still and he challenged me to a duel I said sure and before I knew it he was fireing on me whilst we were both stationairy. Luckly his blaster sucked so I didn't die right away. I managed to get moving I was a little fired but not to bad. I then turned around and kicked the cheating little gimps ass and his excuse for his poor piloting skills was that he was on the phone. That was in my X-Wing Vs. a TIE Interceptor.

2. I was in Deep Space. I had been there many times before always hoping that I would get to PvP, however of all the times I had been there not once had I seen any other ship there. This instance I had decided to check out my new Starmap engine against the ISD in my A-Wing. I was hapily flying about then sudenly I took a huge hit, I knew there was no way the ISD could do that much damage so I hit the 'Z' key and for the very first time I actually got to see another player in Deep Space! So I tried fighting him, I evaded him for 30 seconds forbut he eventually got me.

3. After number 2 I shot straight back to Deep Space. I thought I would finaly have a chance to properly PvP. However when I got there he was gone. I was quite sad, I thought I might finally get to have a bit of fun. So I went back to fighting the ISD but I kept my eyes open hoping he would come back. After a few mins I spoted him racing towards me So I went right after him. We approached each other and avoided each others initial attacks. Before I knew it we were both circleing each other. Both of us were shooting away but nothing was conecting, although I could tell hisship was outperforming mine afterall he was in a JSF. So we went in circles for a whole 5 mins, untill I got bored and tried adjusting my speed at which point he hit me once and I died. I wanted to congratulate him but didn't even know who I had fought.

Unfortunatly upon respawning in Dantooine my ship was NOT fully repaired My engine had been totaly nuked and it's condition was at -17%! I had to use the station to repair it which meant it decayed. At this point I decided not to PvP untill this is fixed, I wanna PvP bad but will not do it if my ship or components decay!

Oh! That reminds me! Last night I chalenged an entire Imperial guild to space PvP Vs. Me and not one of them wanted to fight They had totaly taken over Coronet and were looking for Rebels to fight and none were coming. So I said to them I suck on the ground game but I would fight all of them in space Not one of them was a Master Pilot! /sigh

its hard to get people up and fighting in JTL, but its important to not blame it on the pace of PVP. if you actually start getting to the root of the problem there's lots of other issues that prevent people from fighting much in space before the pace of PVP comes into play.

gorath was a wasteland after the kessel fix and has been till a few months ago. first step i'd take on a server with no PVP is to start informing space based players as to the profit (especially imperials) to be gained in DS. a coordinated group can get 20k FP per person per hour. that translates into a @#%load of faction and cash. once tons and tons of imperials are up there 24/7 farming faction it's easier to organize rebel raids, once you got some contesting of the zone going on, start making "practice PVP days" in normal space and inviting non masters.... it's not a quick process but it can defiantely be done with a bit of work.

i say 20k per person per hour but likely a really good group could get even more than that. the sky is really the limit when everyone who touches a ship gets full FP.

What's to stop the Jedi from jumping on a Sorosuub yacht and being invulnerable?

They aren't recoding the yacht, so recoding space to allow BH vs Jedi for bounties won't work either. Besides, best to just keep the two separate. Fact is, most Jedi probably aren't more than tier 0 pilot with ships meant for "travel" anyway and how are you going to tell what system they use the travel option for? Just doesn't really work in the end.
