Im not complaining, Dont paint all rebels with a broad brush. Im happy for both sides. We got our big ships and your TIE's have shields. So we are both winners, not whiners.

I love the B-Wing. I don't have it on live yet, but back in BETA I had a blast in the thing!

The problem with the B-Wing is this my Nova handles better. So trying to justify that the B-Wing is a heavy ship just doesnt make sense they should have reversed the way both ships handle.

I have read this before, its simply not true. I fly both and the B handles better than the Nova. The excelleration and decelleration on the Nova are slower, and the turning is slower as well. Not to mention the profile of the Nova makes it impossible to miss where the B-wing is far smaller a target.

Nooooooo way. The Nova does indeed accelerate slightly slower than the B-wing, but it turns MUCH smoother. The B-wing has a ton of momentum, so turning often involves shooting past your target while you slow down your ship's rotation. Not so with the Nova.

OK, I understand why an X-wing is called what it is. The same goes for Y-wings and A-wings. But what reasoning could there be for calling the B-wing a B-wing? It looks nothing like a "B". If anything, I'd have called it a "t-wing" (note the lack of capitalization). Could someone explain why it is a B-wing for me?

I think it's either "B" for "Bomber", or they couldn't think of a letter that fit it so they used B because it looks pretty.

If you look at the profile of one I can kind of see the capitol 'B' there. I have also heard people say that the B is a reference to 'bomber.'

Or if you take 1/2 of the B-Wing you have the Straight lines used to form a capital "B"

Its not exactly a B, but kinda close..... Just how the A-Wing could be balled a V-Wing or N-wing or U-Wing since it does not have the line crossing inbetween the 2 diaginal lines.

I've also read the 'blade' explanation, but my favorite (and the one that felt the most likely) used to be located here, but the page no longer exists. The text that Google still has archived includes the clips:

"... He surmises that the "A" and "B" were just the way the production crew ..."

and

"... the A-wing does have a passing resemblance to an A. The B-wing moniker stuck ..

The entire explanation centered around the movie production crew simply naming them model A and model B during creation and the monikers stuck, being transformed into A-Wing and B-Wing.

If you go here, part of the Starwars.com Databank, there should be a link near the lower left with the text:

"Jedi Council: What is a B-wing supposed to look like?"

That was the hyperlink to the post, but is broken, as I said.

It was designed by Admiral Ackbar, and everyone knows fish can't see well. So when he designed it, he probably thought it looked like a B.

Just kidding.
It's most likely meant for "Bomber"... "Heavy Assault Bomber Wing". Either that, or when theS-foils are closed it kind looks like a lowercase "b"... with the wings flat and the cockpit as the round part...

Nerd time! It was designed by Ackbar specifically to combat the Nebulon-B class frigate - Guess thats why its called the B-wing? dunno, but thats what I'd put my money on...
