While I agree with you that having consequences for NPC faction is a good thing, I think there is a problem with people not getting enough information to make informed decisions. The JTL content is almost 100% linear, so if you make the decision to not be in good with Jabba, there needs to be some IN GAME indication that you shouldn't do the smuggler path. Because you have zero freedom in choosing how you progress once you make that initial choice of trainers, AND because you are encouraged by the game system to make that choice based solely on the location that is most convenient for you, there's no way to know that you're screwing yourself until it comes time to either grind NPC faction or give up 6+ boxes of skill and earn them all over again at another trainer.
I heartily support the Faction system and there being consequences that people have to live with. Being forced to go do Jabba's theme park, with NO ALTERNATIVE FOR ADVANCEMENT isn't living with the consequences of your decision; it's being forced to go back and undo your decision to oppose Jabba. Right now JTL gives you ONE meaningful choice aside from ship configuration: which trainer do you want to start with. Either we need a FULL AND COMPLETE SPOILER for how that choice will affect us in the ground game so that that decision can be an informed one, or we need MORE SIGNIFICANT CHOICES worked into the system. At the very least we need a way to change trainers within the same profession without starting over completely.
yeah, what he said. :->

Had no idea about his when I started as a privateer. Would be nice to know these things before you have to choose your trainer.

wow that sucks. I'm pretty sure it only effects pilots who start on tatooine though. so you naboo and corellia neutral pilots are probably safe from this. i started the smugglers alliance for my BH cause it just made the most sense as to where he would have gotten his training. fortunately i planned on doing jabba's themepark for him too. (hehe, every BH should have Jabba's badge of trust). that really is kind of unfair to a lot of established players.
in the dev's defense i can see why they did it. it is a fairly clever way to introduce aspects of the ground game to players that started with JTL. although i think i'd be a little pissed if i bought JTL to fly starships, and some a$$hat told me i had to jump thruough all kinds of hoops on the ground.
GL to all of those that this negatively effecting - hope someone can help you.

Well, if you like RP you can take advantage of this whole ordeal and try to RP making peace with the Hutts by exacting revenge on the Valarian scum that infects Tatooine.

It's not impossible to gain back the faction. I personally think this is a good lesson for people who chose to slaughter NPC's with no regards to the negative faction they were gaining. Every single time you killed one of those NPC's you received a warning saying that you were losing faction points.
I know about faction points. I didn't "slaughter NPC's with no regard". As a wookiee, I was KoS to Hutt when I first started playing the game, and as a role-player, I took great pleasure in killing those who help spread illegal activities throughout the realm (gambling, drugs, etc).
And, as a member of CorSec, I go after pirates... why not Hutts? Aren't they criminals, and smugglers?
I mean really, this doesn't make any sense!
