Thread: JTL makes you lose money in a major way

Actually, ever since I've had JtL I've gone from poor to rich. All the money from the loot (ok only about 15k here and there), selling the looted ship components, I've made a fortune.

Not, as a pilot I should be able to support myself in space, not have to get a second job on the ground. I havn't had a problem makeing money, but still....

But still what then? I disagree. You can't play JtL without owning the ground portion of the game. So it's reasonable to argue that your character is going to need to be able to afford their ships by using that same character on the ground. You can't craft ship chassis without ground professions. You can't get missions without the trianers on the ground. The game is both ground and space.

As a Navy TIE Fighter pilot, I thought I would be able to make a living in the one career I chose to pursue. However, I am finding I need a second job to survive financially... I find myself running around the wilderness outside the base destroying random creatures and Rebel outposts on foot. The base commander is happy when I do this; it keeps the Army from moving in to handle ground operations and cuts back on the paper work significantly. Visiting officials get a kick out of seeing a pilot running around outside beating on the local wild life, too.

So goes the life of a poor navy pilot who can't make ends meet. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to escort a freighter in twenty and there's some pirates loitering a bit outside the base and it's my turn to go beat on them...

i made 1 million credits last night selling looted components to various vendors. made 500k selling my looted components over the bazaar. made 100k for selling a Sorosuub L-337 engine to a collector . have also made @100k in looted credits.

The money in space isn't from the missions, it is from the components... i think that the whole reverse engineering bit is the best thing the devs have done to any profession and its providing a steady income for me.

I guess I better start putting all those extra components onto the bazaar then.

ROFL....

"making 50k credits in two nights is pathetic compared to buffing up and running mokk missions for 30k each.

I really think the devs went overboard with the idea of removing money from the economy, as it will just make it that much harder for new players."

You must be right. Of course it couldn;t be that that figured out the 30k a mission after getting buffed and doing 1 mission every 4 miniutes for 2 hours was bad and decided NOT to repeat the same mistake.

Ah yes, but you see, people with cash-flow problems aren't that likely to be skilled enough, or have good enough armour/weapons, to do those missions.

I see both sides of this ( although I do have large cash reserves from being a de) I have only dropped by 250000 creds or so since I started jtl although I haven't been selling my looted components I have been detroying them (far to much stuff) or I have been giving them to my guild mates.

The real expense I have found is buying the ships and the parts.

repairing your ship doesn't cost any where near as much as the amount of creds I loot.

I should really start selling the stuff I loot but I still have to many droids to sell off which takes all my bizare space.

I take it you havent done denners tier 3 missions. Without a group of 5 or more people at level 2-2-2-2 or better you will be scratching your eyes out and punching yourself in the face over frustration. I made it past the first mission with the help of some friends and got my interceptor with 50k mass and 1700 hitpoints but the last few days I have died soo many times failing the second mission and wasted my days away trying to get a group together my ships hitpoints is down to 700 and its about time to buy another ship. At 650k a pop these ships will break even the more wealthy of players. And no my ship doesnt suck its not possible to defend off about 10-15 tier 4 ships and a tier 4 gunner ship all at the same time with less than 5 people and even with 5 good players you will have to be lucky as hell. So yes i have spent well over a mil already and gotton back maybe 100k or so with the creds you loot but like i said 650k for a ship that decays 10% every death is rediculous. And I'm not blaming the shipwrights cause these things take a buttload of resources I'm blaming the devs for making the missions soo hard and not giving a worthy payout.

Ya know until last night I did suck. I was like 2-1-1-1 But once I got 2-2-1-1 Life really changed for me. Those better parts make it so I NEVER die now. Ya I did suck and thank god I am not 2-2-2-2 and ready to move on to more fun. I have already noticed the game is MUCH BETTER now that has happened. Game became a lot more fun too.. SO yes I DID suck and now I dont WOOOHOOO

I've found that after the initial investment that I'm doing pretty good on money.

Getting into JtL cost me almost 1 mill because you will get to 2/2/2/2 extremely fast. You don't have to upgrade every step of the way, but it does help. I've also wasted a lot of money buying stuff I didn't need. In hindsight, I could have easily done everything up to that point for a lot less.

Since then, I've been working closely with shipwrights on a some deals and haven't really had to worry about the cost for parts, although I'm very careful to only hit them up either when invited to or when absolutely necessary in order to not wear out the relationship.

A few points about what I've seen here...

1) Cashola

There is plenty of money in space... in fact, I'm pretty close to earning back everything I've spent on ship components (if not surpassed it already) from space credits alone. The duty missions get much better when you're in Tier 3/4. When doing duty missions you get cash for each successful round + looted cash + looted parts + space xp... the high level payouts are actually pretty decent so it tends to work in the end - as long as you are good enough to keep from getting blown up too aften (it does happen from time to time still).

2) Capt Denner's impossible missions

If you're a good pilot, you should be able to do 1-2 of his missions solo... there are 2 missions of his where having a group is necessary for most people. I've found, though, that you're group doesn't have to be very large. For the Denner missions, I was able to easily complete them with one other person who happenned to be lower level than me.

I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but just implying that his missions get a ton easier just by having one person help you out.

Things will get better... just keep working and you'll get there. The only hard place I see is if you're strapped for cash and you're stuck on a story mission... then you're in trouble because you have to pass the story mission in order to get to the next chance for a duty mission.

When I was working Denners first mission, I thought I was gonna get owned cause they sent 5 Tier III's at me. I finished off 2 and was working on the third when I locked up cold. After I rebooted I was back on Yavin ready to take the mission again so it was like nothing ever happened. I got no credit and I didn't die. It looked tough but I think it can be solo'd no problem. I'll try again tonight. Chances are, it gets a lot worse than those 5 Tier III's.
